Since the changes in live bloginations we are moving it to this area. It seems to fit within reason.

F.A.Q.

Original Thread

What is this?

This is the Tv Tropes Minecraft Succession Game.

What is a succession game? A game where a individual player plays a game for a limited amount of time and then saving at the end of the time frame before passing off the save file to another person in line. Wash rinse repeat.

What is the required skill level? Currently no skill is required but you should familiarize yourself with minecraft first so your turn is not wasted but if you want you can jump in.

How do I sign up? Send me (Tuefel Hunden IV) a PM with the pm title Minecraft Succession Game Slot. I will add you to the list.

Where can I get Help? There is a list of links towards the bottom of this post that you will find useful or you can also visit the tvtropes minecraft thread Our Minecraft Thread

As part of playing the game we are asking each player to write a journal from the perspective of their in game character in relations to their day and even in relation to the events of previous play throughs.

So what is the purpose of the journal? To provide some depth to the game and relate your story as you adventure inside the world of minecraft and try to survive the day to day trials.

Do I have to do a journal? Not really but that kind of makes the whole experience boring for everyone else involved and denies us of your tale. You don't have to do anything spectacular or even write well. Just noting the events at the end of the minecraft day (sun rise in game to sun set in game) or any other activities you want to note.

How long is a in game minecraft day. The full day/night cycle is 20 minutes. 10 minutes of daylight, 1minute 30 seconds for sun set. 7 Minutes of night time and 1 minute 30 seconds for sun rise.

Where/what can I build? Can I build anywhere I want to? While yes you can technically build anywhere you want but keep in mind the further out you go from the original point the larger the save file. If you really want to build out away from the original site a good rule of thumb is about 30 blocks out.

You can build any structure you can harvest the materials to build.

Will there be any starting items? We will have to see how many people initially sign up.

When does it start? When I have a list of at least 5 or more people other then myself.

How do I track time in game? See the links at the bottom of the post for a useful online and free timer.

I want another turn is that ok? Yes you will be added back to the list at the end of the line. We ask that anyone who has had a play through already give up a slot for those who haven't and wait for their turn again.

A new thing I have added is a list of mandates from the king. You are not required to do them but they are there to provide some sort of goal for whoever wants to do them.

See this post for the goals/mandates

Firs things first Rules

1. You have 7 Real Life Days to finish your turn. A turn is 2 hours and 20 minutes in minecraft. If you can not finish your turn save it and upload the save and post the link. If we can't get the save file from the last person to play on that day we will use the last available save. If some one doesn't pick up the save after one day of the last person completing it we will move them to the end of the line and give the save to the next person in line.

2.You must use a clean install of mine craft no mods and no inventory edit programs. Please no Cheating.

3.Do not deliberately destroy the structures others build or make the area unusable for others. If this does happen we will just revert to last available map.

4. You must spend at least 7 minecraft days (2 hours and 30minutes) on easy or higher difficulty. 7 days on peaceful to allow you to get your surroundings and get ready for the 7 days of monsters. You may choose which days you want the peaceful and active days on in any pattern as long as you get the 7 minecraft days with monsters.

5. Please post a minecraft day daily entry in this thread. See the journal entry for examples.

Technical Help for finding and loading save files for play and uploading them and other useful links.

Your save folders should have names like World1, World2, World3, World4, or World5. You can rename the folder to use any of those slots.

Flimsy Story Based Pretense For Our game Play.

The Basic Story is that we are all working for a nameless kingdom sent out to a remote post to harvest much needed resources for a upcoming war. They can only spare one worker at a time to go though.

Player Game Journals from the previous game. Pardon the Wall of text.

  • Some of the journals in the original thread had links to pictures that were potholed and added a little something. But since I wanted to get this back up and running again so folks can have their turn I will have to leave them out for the time being.

You can view the Archived entry here. Original Page

Journal of TuefelHundenIV Explorer and Adventurer.
Journal Prologue I have been ordered out on expedition by the Royal Explorer's Guild to attend to a far flung outpost. Normally they would send a whole regiment out to these outposts but with the upcoming war they could only afford to send me by myself. Those who come after me after my week long search for materials before returning to the kingdom will be in similar circumstances.

But it is not as bad as it all sounds they have given us the courtesy of having sent a small Royal engineer squad to at least give us a head start. They left a shelter and some starting supplies near the beach where I arrived.

There is one point of concern though. The land has a bit of monster infestation problem. The Engineers said the monsters started to appear after being there for the three days. It looks like this might be more difficult then just simply exploring and marking resources.

Day 1 On site

I arrived along the shoreline near the shack I am expected to use for the duration of my stay. The area seems mildly dry near the shore line but gets greener as you approach the hill tops. I checked out the equipment in the hut and noticed 10 sets of armor much like my own along with some assorted tools and weapons. Thankfully I had brought a compass and a watch to this quiet land. While I am well equipped for this endeavor they neglected to notify me that I would need to bring my own food. I decided to rectify this issue immediately. I headed up the hill and acquired some wood by hand.

I used the wood to craft several tools that I could use initially as I do not want to use the finer iron tools until necessary. I took my newly crafted instruments and set out into the wilds around the shack. I had no trouble finding pigs who seemed very docile for wild animals. Perhaps they used to be farm animals not that long ago.

They did not fight back or run away very fast when I laid them out with my wooden sword. I spent the day searching for the animals and hunting them down. Some of the creatures were sadly not healthy enough for me to take meat from them. But I managed to gather enough that I headed back to the shack as the night fell.

I spent most of the night cooking my meats from the hunt and noticed I needed a place to store them. I took a bundle of torches from the chest and laid out a line of torches up to the woods on the hill top where I had gathered materials before.

I gathered some more wood and quickly carved it into planks and built a small two block long three block high extension on the side of the shack to house a single food storage chest. I crafted a door and placed everything in it. I then rested for a few short hours as the dawn approached I was ready to start exploring the Island in Detail.

Day 2

The day started simply with me beginning to explore the area I found a shallow cave nearby that contained to my surprise some shallow Iron deposits near the surface. I delved into the cave with a few torches and found several deposits of natural coal. I quickly harvested the coal and some stone tools to harvest the more durable iron ore. By the time I had finished exploring that cave and the two others nearby I had come away with 8 cubes of iron ore and a bundle of torches I crafted from the coal I had uncovered.

Noticing my on hand wood supply was once again running low I made my way back up to the ill where I had earlier harvested wood. I had neglected to mention in my previous entry I had planted some saplings from the trees to ensure future supplies. As I was harvesting some more saplings to plant one of the previously planted saplings experienced sudden and violent growth. I was suddenly trapped in the depths of its branches. Thankfully my explorers armor bore the brunt of the event and I freed myself. my armor trousers and breast plate were the only parts of my armor not ripped to tatters. I must be more careful.

I then set about crafting more stone tools and torches. The night quickly fell and I returned to the shack to smelt the iron. I fired up the forge and decided now would be a good time to add to the outpost. I created some stairs and made my way to the roof where I bean to build on the buildings outline. I Stopped for a moment and rested until the sun rose.

(Explanation about the tree) Apparently a sapling I had planted had just reached the point where it was gong to become a tree but some left over nearby leaves were preventing this. So when I harvested the leaves it literally grew with me caught up in the branches I barely managed to get out of the leaves before it ripped my armor up.

Day 3

My third day was mostly spent gathering resources to finish the second floor of the outpost. It is no longer a shack. As has become my chosen habit I wandered up the nearby hill to harvest more wood for the project. I noted that the rest of the saplings I had planted earlier had grown into short trees. Some of the local trees have grown so much as to intermingle their wood and branches in a mess that is difficult to harvest but the main trunks themselves often provide large quantities of wood. I must devise a way to reach the higher branches to obtain that valuable wood.

After gathering my materials and wearing out a wood and a stone axe I returned to the Out Post. I finished adding a storage chest and a roof with a door to the second floor. I think this will become the store room for the outpost. I created a balcony by crafting some short fences to serve as railings so i could look out over the area as please. I also found another use for the stacks of fencing.

The local game animals have proven to be very annoying while you are working by roughly jostling and pushing you about. I got so angry I struck one of the sheep with a wooden hunting sword. The creature was quite literally knocked out of its wool but that was to be expected. The cling wool sheep's hair clings to their attackers giving them time to flee. But seeing as I struck the poor creature with a hefty blade of iron the wool was merely flung from the poor animal. The wool is very versatile as a textile for canvas and bedding. I took the wool and created some art with local plant dyes to lessen the feeling of being the only person in this stretch of wilderness.

The night fell far too quickly for my personal tastes I had just finished laying the fences after my artistic distractions were complete when the night came. I faced the night with some trepidation as I recall too well the reports of monsters. While they were not specific about what kind of monsters they seemed genuinely frightened and some were even noticeably injured.

They had helpfully informed that plenty of torch light on the surface kept them from creeping up on you in the night but they would charge with reckless abandon if they caught sight or wind of you.

I took them at their word and added a raised stone step platform to balcony to give me clear line of site over the beach area. I also armed myself with a bow and quiver of 30 arrows should I get a visit from one of these creatures. Deciding I should make it easier to move in and out of my surrounding fence line I added some door ways for quicker access as I got tangled up on the top rails trying to simply leap them.

I again rested for a while and awoke with the dawn. This day will be spent looking for more natural caves and other valuable resources.

Day 4

On the fourth day I decided I needed to more thoroughly explore the area and see what resources might be available to me for future gathering. I made sure my compass was on hand as well as the bow and arrows from earlier and went wondering. I crossed over the hill I typically visited for my wood sources. The area beyond was more hills very similar to the one I had just crossed. I wondered around the area until I cam across what appears to be a large land locked lake. In the center of one of its smaller portions was a small isle with some trees and reeds growing on the surface. Seeing an opportunity generate a renewable resource I harvested the reads so I could transplant them later closer to coast I arrived on. I continued to roam and noted the abundance of trees on the various hills and more beaches and coves could be seen in the distance.

As looked back towards the place I had started from I noticed a cave in the hill side. I began to explore it and found some meager deposits of coal and single sample of iron ore. I quickly mined the valuable materials and went back to exploring. After coming across a cactus growing on a sand bar I took some cuttings to plant some near the landing I could possibly make a cactus garden to ward off the curious animals and add some color and form to the landscape as well as potentially valuable export.

I wondered back to the beach are and decided to I need explore area further up shore. I came across another small empty cave and returned to the surface. I had decided then I needed to mark the caves I had explored. I used some of the Cobblestone blocks I had gathered and fixed a single torch near the caves entrance so that It could be readily seen and possibly used for future mining ventures. I circled around the large hill that neighbors the outpost and found over hang with a bunch of brown mushrooms growing in it's shade. I quickly gathered them and noticed that the cave went deeper but was blocked by gravel piles.

I put my shovel to work digging away the piles so I could access the deeper regions of the cave. While the rest of the cave proved unfruitful I was pleased to note that while digging through the gravel I uncovered several pieces of flint that I could later craft into arrows should the need arise. I wondered around a bit more and noted the sun was close to setting and made for the outpost. I checked the area for a bit expecting the monsters I had been so worried about to spring from every spot. I had earlier placed torches inside the fencing so as not to be surprised.

After waiting for some time for some sign of trouble I decided they were not coming and ventured out into the night to get some more wood to smelt the cobble into solid stone. As I approached the wood line I heard a groaning sound as of someone moaning in hung or pain. I stood in the torch light trying to decide where the sound was coming from. This nearly cost me my life.

While my back was turned and with me trying to locate the source of the noise a green oblong monster on short stubby legs had crept up on me unawares. I had turned around just in time for the creature to his snap its jaws and hiss violently in my face. The creatures skin flashed white and a moment later it exploded with force flinging me aside further battering my remaining badly damaged armor and injuring me. When I rose sword in hand to fight the monster All I could find was a crater where it had once stood. No sooner had I turned around then another was upon me. I managed to get back from it a the last second and witnessed the explosion which was a roar of sound, a flash, and a momentary pall of smoke.

No sooner had that danger passed then the source of the moans made itself known. A member of the walking dead lurched down the hill at me rapidly. I took my hunting sword in hand regretting having placed the iron one back into storage I struck it down. I gathered up scattered torches from the stealthy green monsters who ended violently then I was attacked again by a pair skeletons wielding bows.

I decided that trying to close with my sword would only get me wounded or worse I used my own bow to bring them down. 4 arrows in each of them while my armor took the hit of one of their arrows. I frantically looked about and saw two more of those green monstrosities but I saw them before they saw me this time. I took careful aim and hit the closest one on the first shot it immediately it stepped back a bit before resuming its mad charge. I shot it for more times each hit stunning it before it fell dead leaving behind a fine gray black ash pile. As I felled the second monster the sun rose in the sky. My armor nearly destroyed and injured enough to need rest I retreated to the out post to await full daylight.

What in the name of the Mighty is going on where the hell did these things come from? Why are they so damn set on killing me?

I think I shall green ones Creepers as they creep up on you silently. The Skeletons are just that as are the walking corpses. What manner of land has the undead roaming it? What happened to this place in it's past to create such foul creatures?

In the new day I shall go collect feathers from the chickens I have seen roaming about and harvest more flint for arrows. If my other nights will be anything like this last one my arrow supplies will not hold out long.

Day 5

I decided to explore after sunrise and was pleased to note that the undead burst into flames in the presence of daylight. However the Creepers do not. What spawned these things? Worse yet are the giant spiders which lunge after you at with shocking speed. I spent most of my day gathering feathers and flint to make more arrows as I had spent all 30 of my previous batch. The green creatures have given me a fair amount of powder to play with. I will have to consult the books the engineers left behind for what this substance might me used for. I have planted a read garden by the coast to provide material for paper and books. Hopefully the blank paper will and books will be valuable to the scholars as they are to me.

I also crafted a pit trap with gravel fall to crush to death anything that fell into the pit and was hoping to test it at night but before I could lure a monster into it something interesting happened. A creeper I was Leading into the trap was accidentally shot by a skeleton's arrow. The creeper immediately ceased chasing me and ran up to the skeleton blowing both of them to pieces. I stood in surprise at my now destroyed traps remains resting in the crater in front of me.

I spent the rest of the night directly battling the monsters becoming severely injured and having all but my breast plate destroyed by the time the sun rose I had killed several monsters. I had been keeping tally with torches but they were too valuable at lighting the surroundings so I will instead use the attractive red flowers. Every flower will mark an enemy I have felled personally. My garden will be beautiful and terrible to behold to those who know its meaning.

As dawn came up I noticed a cave I had missed in my earlier exploring I shall take the iron sword and some food and torches and delve into it tomorrow.

I have also considered slaughtering some cattle for their hides to once again protect myself but my time here is nearly done. If I rotate back I shall make sure to have plenty of time before the monsters arrive to harvest goods for armor.

Day 6

I decided I was tired of searching around the coast and needed to strike out to find a better spot to mine the materials and supplies I had been sent to find. I struck out in a random direction and walked two stacks out. I noticed a small patch of desert with a sand covered cliff. What interested me more was the visible deposits of coal. I noticed a small partially blocked cave. As I approached the cave I noticed the sun was disturbingly low in the sky.

I decided to seal up the cave and mine the coal within and dig a diagonal shaft in the classic stair step pattern. As I ventured downward I did not encounter any caverns or monsters for this I was thankful. But even more so I found some iron and coal deposits and more then enough cobble stone blocks to mark a path back to the mine to the out post.

I shall spend the day traveling back to the outpost fetching logs setting my ore findings to smelt. When the night comes I will not cower or hide. I will march out into the darkness and fight the monsters until the sun rises or until I am killed. If I die then this will be my last entry in the journal may my successor fare better then I did in these strange lands.

Day 7

I made good time from just after dawn placing beacon blocks with a torch upon that lead to the mine I was working on. I also marked a unexplored cave with a sign along the trail in hopes it will be explored by replacement and will yield us treasures.

Upon my return to the out post it was still mid morning so I began smelting the iron ore and settling my personal affairs in preparation for the nights combat.

I crafted two additional chests for the upstairs one containing coal and refined iron ore the other assorted blocks. I created a chest of things I had in my carry sack and stored all but my food, bow, a quiver of 30 arrows, some rations and my now well worn chest plate. I took some of the flowers I had picked and created my garden of glory marking the number of enemies I had slain by bow or sword up to that point. Satisfied I copied my journal into blank book which I left in the successors chest (nothing is actually in it just for flavor) so that they may learn from my own experiences. I also donated my personal watch a fine gold one at that and compass as they were invaluable to me here. You should also find a single iron bucket for hauling water. I did not use any further iron as we are to build the supply for the war effort. I am tempted to take the supply with me when I leave...if I leave. But it might be of use to those who follow on.

I watched the sun beginning to set and readied myself for combat. I marched out side and hastily repaired my failed gravel crusher pit trap and waited. I did not have to wait long after night fall. At least 3 zombies descended from the hill to attack me and walked blindly into my prepared pit. I let them sit for the clatter of a skeleton followed by the twang of his bow alerted me to greater issues. I had my bow in my pack still so I charged the skeleton swinging my iron sword wildly. I took multiple arrows to the chest but my armor once again saved my life. The skeleton fell dropping its remaining arrows.

The rest of night was filled with similar engagements. I would either shoot at them with the bow and lure them to the pit or swing my sword at them time and again until they fell. I was severely injured by the time the night had come by creepers who would leap into the fight at the most inopportune moments. The dawn finally came scorching the remaining undead save for the ones in the pit I had cut down from the edge of pit with my sword. I killed the last few creepers and collected all the foes had dropped and stored them for those who come after.

I have survived this land and return home injured but victorious. I leave my now well worn armor and sword to whoever comes after me. May they help you in your early days.

Ok I also created a garden for 7 day survivors using the yellow flowers. For those who manage to only get mangled but not die.

Journal of Dr. Boris Afti, Man of Science

Day 0: I have been exiled by my people, sent to a desolate outpost. Why? Because I dared to make man better. Stronger. Faster. Smarter. It threatened the damn fools of the aristocracy, the mere idea that my Afti-Men could prove superior to them, so now I am sent to die in a wasteland. I shall show them! I will take this place and build a laboratory, and there I shall create an army of Afti-Men and have my revenge. I have but one week before an inspector is sent; if my laboratory is incomplete, I will surely be killed. I must make good time.

Day 1: I have arrived. I am greeted by a rough wooden shack; I take tools and armor from its chests and leave. I will need a high mountain, so that my laboratory may harness the lightning itself. I see my location across the bay near this shack, and I set out through the night to reach it. The wildlife has not been angered by my experiments yet, so it is safe to be out at night. Like a common laborer, I work through the night, quarrying stone and laying the foundation for my laboratory. Alas, I have no way to produce my Afti-Men yet, and no way to speed up the labor. The work is long and hard, but eventually my laboratory's foundations are laid. In the morning, I chop down two trees for wood before producing some stone tools to replace my nearly-unusable broken-down iron tools and return to work.

Day 2: I quarry stone, burrowing deep into the earth in a spiral. Iron is found; I save this, for I will need it later on. Striking a cavern, I get out my torches and head on, in search of rare materials. Ideally, before I am done here, I will have amassed anything I may need for further experiments. Iron, redstone, diamond, coal. Any of these may be needed. Alas, the cavern I find is not deep; I find only small amounts of iron and coal within. During the night, I finish the structure of my laboratory and start on the lightning rod that supplies power. Without iron enough to use, I must resort to a stone structure, massively reducing my power generation potential. All the same, while the structure of my lab is humble, a one-room stone building without even windows, the lightning rod is something that can be seen for miles away. I prepare for day three, returning to my quarry so that I may prepare my facilities...

Day 3: Early in the third day, my laboratory is complete. It is not what I am accustomed to; simply a stone shelter with a lightning rod, which powers the A-Machine. The A-Machine is what I use to produce Afti-Men; a subject is chained to the operating table and cybernetically enhanced. By harnessing a lightning strike, I can revive the Afti-Man; previously, my colleagues had attempted life-support during the surgery, which had always failed due to the extent of the modifications. Myself, I simply reanimate the freshly deceased after the surgery is complete. The body is still undecayed, so there is no loss of function. I now start work on my grand tomb, where the Afti-Men of my empire will store my body when I die. And it is complete within the night, with my sarcophagus and chests for offerings within. So, I mine through the remainder of the night, for tonight's experiments...

Day 4: With the stone from last night, I have erected a transmitter for use in tonight's experiments. Since the Afti-Men require human beings, living ones, to create, they are not practical for my initial army. As such, I have created this transmitter. I have calculated a signal which should cause the local wildlife to assemble into a proper army, with the ability to focus on a single target. This! This is my vengeance! They called me a madman, but now I control an army of my own! An army of monsters! And, soon, the world will be under my thumb... As a test, I will assemble my army tonight. If all goes well, they will set off for the city come dawn. And night comes; I have been wandering this land waiting for this moment. My army of monsters- the living dead under my command. The time has come! All hail Afti! I approach the transmitter and activate it. My laboratory's lightning rod draws power from the heavens and transfers it a short way across to the transmitter. The transmitter is active, but the beasts do not approach it... I see one in a field below and tentatively approach; the transmitter should render the beasts loyal to me. Instead, it attacks. Ah, well. A wild beast; the experiment has failed. It is at this time that I notice more approaching me, all possessed of a singleminded drive to end my life. The beast I slew was an explosive green creature, dispatched easily by my bow. Now others are attacking, seemingly to avenge it. I aimed to make an army out of these, and I succeeded. I try to shut off the transmitter; no good. A skeleton snipes me as I do so; I narrowly escape with my life.

I huddle in my laboratory and plan. A pig I slaughtered the past day provides the meal I eat after tending to my wounds.

I believe I have found a way to acquire the power I seek.

I believe there is another world, parallel to this one. Obsidian is possessed of properties that weaken reality of it; if I were to gather enough of it in one place, I could break into this "netherworld", or Nether for short.

Several old myths describe creatures of immense power known as Ghasts, appearing deep in the earth, near obsidian. Once, I believed these to be fantasy- but, knowing what I now know, I believe that Ghasts are creatures native to the Nether.

It is my aim to, in the three days I have remaining, create a portal to the Nether. Once that is done, on the night of the final day of this week, before the accursed inspector comes to this land and sees my attempts to assemble an army to overthrow the King and his court, I will, no, I must step into that portal, taking refuge among whatever kind a dimension awaits me, until I can capture a Ghast. Research its physiology. In time, emerge, with control over the Ghasts. My new transmitter cannot fail, or I will die; the Ghasts are already extremely aggressive and dangerous. I will use Ghast young for the test subjects, reduce the transmitter strength to but one room. When it works as I intend, I shall rule a race of either gods or demons, and I shall be invincible.

Initial planning on Operation Ghast is in effect. The first order of business: to find for myself diamond. That is day 5. Day 6, I shall quarry obsidian. Day 7, I shall assemble my portal and flee this world.

Death to King and country!

Day 5: Slaying a couple surviving beasts as I leave my laboratory, a greenish creature explodes in my face and damages the facade; lacking stone, I do a quick and ugly repair with dirt on my person before leaving. At sea level, I dig out my mineshaft and barricade the entrance with dirt to safeguard against attacks come nightfall. I found a massive cave system; though my armor was ripped to shreds, I safely lit a portion and sealed off the rest. I am now deep in the earth; I can hear the beasts I have angered everywhere. I do not find diamonds, and continue mining until day 6.

Day 6: I am behind. Deep in the earth, I mine, but still find nothing! A genius of my caliber, reduced to what? A peasant, digging in the ground. My last pick breaks; I wait through the night on smelting iron I have acquired, but I have enough wood for only one more pick. Should this fail, I shall have no way to prove my theories, and be looked upon forever as a madman. I beg whoever finds this journal- carry on my work. Build a portal to the Nether, by these specifications: a five meter high by four meter wide obsidian frame, activated by application of flame inside it. Please.

When that is done, break open the headstone of my tomb.

I am near death... A chance encounter with lava has left me mortally wounded... I should be at the surface by dawn; I must wait for the beasts, even the ones not harmed by sunlight, to retreat. I will mark the mines, for in them I have found the obsidian needed, and then I will enter my tomb. No human being is here to inter me; I must do this myself... I shall crawl into the sarcophagus and die from my wounds. My worldly goods will be in the chests within. I only hope someone finds this journal, and is able to prove my theories on the Nether.

Day 7: First, I take some of the stone I have amassed to build a visible entrance to my deep mines... They are in the valley between my mountain laboratory and the desert. Next, I repair my laboratory facade; I leave it to the man that should take my burden upon himself,

To those who read this: My laboratory's lightning rod is visible across the bay from the outpost. Should you wish to take on the burden of Operation Ghast, go there. Find my tomb, break open the cobblestone in front of the grave marker, and enter it. Take what you like from my chests. Find my mines. Hunt for diamond. Mine the exposed obsidian. Build the portal. Before you leave this place, enter my tomb once more and place something, anything, on my sarcophagus.

This journal I am now placing inside the outpost. My condition deteriorates rapidly; I shall head for my tomb. I must reach it while I live. I must. One leg is burnt to a crisp, so I limp, but I must reach that tomb before I die!

The cynical could say I have survived my time here. I suppose that is so; I project my death midway through my eighth day. Nonetheless, I do not have time to commemorate this "victory" over the environment. Whomever finds this journal- please do so.

My laments are many... That the transmitter project failed, turning already violent beasts into an army aiming to destroy any human being they see... That there were no subjects for conversion into Afti-Men... And, of course, that in my allotted time I could not complete Operation Ghast.

It is my opinion that, for reasons of safety, the portal should be stored in a chamber only accessible from underwater, when it is constructed. The mythical Ghast is a creature of flame, so assuming this holds merit the sea is a useful security measure.

The next man to read this journal will undoubtedly be a faithful devotee of the royal family, as opposed to an exile sent to do dangerous work. I ask that even so you not judge me without understanding me... I tried to better mankind, and for that my own people turned against me, put me to death. I was offered salvation here, but at a price. I was chosen because this job has maimed trained knights; an academic such as myself was figured to have no chance. And yet, I survived as long as their knights. Were I allowed to return to my country, I could survive even these injuries; I could receive medical treatment, replace my leg with a cybernetic one, like those already in use by the nobility. The ones I designed! I have given everything to my country, and been sent to die for it. I am not a madman, not a monster! I seek only what is rightfully mine, and I can only achieve that by force at this point.

Thank you for reading this. Please place it back in the upstairs room where it was found when you are done with it, if you do not intend to take on Operation Ghast...

(The journal of Amarys, AKA Lucky, King's Chef) Now Ori Doodles

PROLOGUE My ironic mother named me Lucky. My given name is Amarys, but only my father ever called me that. My mother was the queen's favorite lady, and my father the King's favorite artist. Their match was in proper standing, and when I was born, it was under auspicious stars.

But those stars were quickly covered by heavy grey clouds. My father died in the first onslaught of undead, and my mother form grief soon after. I was only 12 when I was taken in by the kitchen staff at the palace. the warm and friendly kitchen was the only place I was happy in that austere, lonely place. When the kingdom was plunged into full-on war with the undead, I found myself quickly caught up in the tales of glory and adventure.

So when the king said that this new land needed to be explored and surveyed for possible resources, I jumped at the call. Little did I know that my bad luck would follow me there.

DAY 1: The soldiers sure paddled away quickly. I don't know what they are afraid of—this land is gorgeous; hilly, with clear blue waters and abundant animals. My time in the king's kitchen have taught me plenty about butchering animals, but I want to get a taste for my surroundings first.

I discovered my predecessor's journals. Very useful information here from the unknown soldier. Tuefel seems to have had an eye for landscaping. I'll try and add to the victory garden later. I think I noticed a chest of food, and my stomach is rumbling. Mushrooms and bacon and water make a tasty enough stew. The grass and other plant life seems inedible. Maybe I can do something with the bark tomorrow?

Night falls quickly here. I had only time to do a little bit of mining. I did gather some flint. I finished Tuefel's journals in the first hours of the night, but find myself unable to sleep because of the rustlings and groanings outside, it does not surprise me that the undead walk here too. I know from Tue's journals that the older the undead are, the more accurate they are at killing. The creature he named "Creeper" intrigue me.

—-

DAY 2 I fashioned some crude arrows and took the bow from one of the chests. I am immediately ambushed by one of the Jumpers, but I kill it quickly. It's string is flexible and maybe I can find a way to use this. I found the reeds planted by Tue and harvested some—I'll discover what can be made from these tonight. I also discovered a natural cave and small vein of coal. These will be reported, but not much more was available. Again, I am surprised by how quickly night seems to fall. Before I retreat to the outpost, i track down a few of the fat little piggies and the chickens. I'm not up for slaughtering cattle or sheep just yet. A few slabs of bacon are my reward—the chickens are a strange breed; so scrawny that all I get of use form them are some feathers. I did find a nest, however. Fresh eggs for breakfast!

I am struck by an idea as I wander through the hilly woodland. This brand new world is dangerous and marvelous and should be documented. I will build a grand library to house the journals of we adventurers. Armed with this new plan, i quickly climb the top of one of the larger trees and take the thing down. unfortunately, my axe breaks in the middle of the job and I am forced to peel the tree apart. the bark is surprisingly soft and easy to break. I will begin work as soon as the next day comes.

Tonight was hard. So excited about my idea, and feeling pressed for time, I ventured out while the moon was still high. i killed a zombie, but his dying groans attracted other creatures and I was quickly beset. I retreated, but I had foolishly left the door to the outpost open! One of the undead, armed with a bow and deadly accuracy followed me in. I barely defeated him. I spent the rest of the night binding my wounds and trying to repair my chest plate. My helmet and bracers are completely useless now.

I also made a chilling discovery. Tuefel was not my predecessor. The king, in his high wisdom, banished the traitor Afti to these shores. The mad doctor's ravings are cataloged in a journal that I found in the outpost. How I missed this before I don't know but I'll read it tomorrow night. Day is dawning.

DAY 3: in the safety of daylight I work quickly to build the foundations of my library. I envision a graceful building of glass and dark wood, with some gold accents, if gold can be found. I must mine this afternoon, for I need iron for armor, and if I neglect my mission for the king, I will not find it easy back at the palace. The caves are infested with monsters. I hear their groaning—and what is worse, I am beginning to recognize the different sounds. The Zombs, as I call the fresher undead, make a noise that is both chilling and lacking in intelligence. The Skellies are almost musical, the way their hollow bones clack together. However, it is best when their bones rattle into dust as sunlight hits. There is a haven of Zombs above the outpost. I did not dare dig deeper, as my armor is nearly depleted and I have yet to find iron. also, the sun is once more dipping and the sky glows ominously red. What I once thought was a beautiful sunset now only warns me of my need to be in shelter.

I barely made it back alive. I was almost at the outpost when I saw the now familiar form of a creeper bounding joyously towards me, it's grotesque mouth wide open. It was hissing malevolently and though i dodged, and tried to get my bow up in time, I was not quick enough. The beast blew up literally in my face. Luckily the blast was taken by my armor, but that reduced it's protection to negligible status. I am bruised but not fatally wounded. After my run in with the Creeper, i have no taste for monster hunting. However, his explosion has given me two ideas.

First and foremost is the need for iron, but my progress is largely hampered by the inadequate tools and the large amounts of rock in my way. However, creeper excrement looks strangely familiar....

DAY 4: you learn the oddest things in a kitchen. I was sitting there one day, avoiding Grace's sharp eyes (and therefore my chores) when an old soldier limped in. i was idly tracing designs with one finger through a heap of pepper. He felt the power and shook his head. "So similar." he muttered, "to the stuff that took my foot." He proceeded to tell me about the powder blocks that soldiers would make and leave for traps for others. once tripped, these blocks wold explode with terrifying force. all it took was a few piles of sand and some of the gunpowder.

Well, there's plenty of sand around. I spent all last night smelting sand for glass for the library, but I reserved a few piles for other uses. Now I have two powder blocks, and I am relatively sure that they will work. All I have to do is try it out.

I found a likely cave right at water's edge. The explosion is not big, but it is loud. I am unscathed but wary. From the cave now emanates the tell-tale sound of skeletons.

In fact, it seems these monsters have gained power over the stone. I'm looking at a built wall. I dig carefully into the wall. If i can make enough light flood the dungeon—maybe I'll be rewarded with the sweet sound of crumbling bones.

Well, now the skeletons are swimming. Wonderful. Somehow I struck water instead of sunlight. I know i killed one, because I heard its bones clatter. I have to come back to this problem later—I really should finish the library. Well, maybe just one more brick....+

I have returned, shaken, wet and disgustingly dirty. That last brick nearly drowned me in wet sand. I was at my last strength when I floundered up to the beach. I swear, I heard the skeletons laughing at me. I'll have my revenge, but not yet. The ordeal took most of the day and my library still stands unfinished. But I fear I am too weak to do anything more today. I must rest.

DAY 5: My time here is more than halfway finished and I feel that I have accomplished very little. The paucity of resources here is astounding. There is nothing but barren caves and almost useless animals. The cows give only their skins, because I dare not eat their flesh for fear of taint. The pig flesh is good, but that is the only animal one can eat here. I'm ready to be done and go home.

Most of today was spent painstakingly digging out the skeleton dungeon. I filled the entire area with sand, and then dug through the sand to get to the bottom. I was rewarded with a few crumbs of stale bread—apparently the undead have a taste for gluten products. I'll keep this in mind for future traps. I rescued only half of my belongings—the rest were waterlogged and useless. Most costly is my second powder-block. All of those Creepers killed, at great risk for nothing. I am severely disappointed.

night falls, but the monsters are very quiet now. I am even able to get a bit done on my library. Not much happens.

DAY 6: I woke feeling more positive today. I was ready to try again with mining and I have bigger plans for my library.

Part of what still weighs on my spirit is the fact that I finished Dr. Afti's journal a few nights back. The images still weigh on my mind—his lunatic ideas of entitlement. He was no relation to the king; why would he think that the kingdom was rightfully his? I feel a little frightenend by all of it. If I choose to come back on rotation, I must decide if Afti's lab will be found or not. And in the mean time, I must decide if I should hide his journal or leave it for the next person. what if the king send someone worse than the mad Murderer? I should just take the journal back—or better yet, toss it in the ocean.

DAY 7: The final day is spent finishing up my library. I made bookshelves for the journals, and will make more if there are more journals to catalog. I worry that my Library is unprotected. For My successor: if you wish, please lay fence around my library and fit it with a door. I ran out of time, but would not like to see my building overrun with monsters.

I know that I am no architect. I am a chef. I came here for an adventure and an adventure was had. I think I will come back, if only to find the mythical fruit that grows here—some large orange globe, said to grow with a face. I'm sure it will be interesting to try and cook it.

I made a decision regarding Dr. Afti's writings. He was one of us. Not a loyal citizen, but one of the few who stayed on this forsaken land, who lived for a short time here and then died. I do not think it wise to leave his writing for just anyone, but he has earned a (secret) place in my library. For those who truly wish to find his journal: "The light of truth shines not in insanity."

I'm going home.

Lucky.

Rydia (English Ivy)

Day One

I have arrived in this dangerous land. A heavy fog has set in, and I begin to miss my hometown.

The ship left me at this makeshift stone pier, then departed.◊ I am to stay here for a week, surveying the landscape and giving a full report to the local monarch. The reports of monsters appearing in the dark frighten me not; after Zeromus, no random encounter could possibly touch me. My magic does not appear to work in this place, but I still have my old equipment, so unless Plague is among these monsters, I should be fine.

The previous caretakers have left a small stockade.◊ Inside, a cord of wood can be found, as well as torches. It was requested that I shore up the fence around the newly-built library, and place a door. I'm... new to this crafting thing, ◊ but hopefully, it will keep monsters away from the building.

It has come to my attention that the highest-recommended defense against encounters, a deep trench with a ladder and bridge above, has not been built yet. I will need to do so before my stay is over.

Realizing that this shore has been picked clean of resources, I build a small boat and set off to explore the nearby islands.◊ The sun sets much faster than I had expected, however, leaving me to drift helplessly in the pitch black night.◊ I should have paid more attention to the time.

I come ashore on a small sand bank.◊ Placing torches, I see that the monsters are waiting for me in the darkness. They die quickly, randomly dropping objects such as gunpowder or arrows.◊ Rosa was always a better archer than I; I wonder what use she would have of these.

Torches are laid out on the ground. The encounters follow me in to the light, where I slaughter them handily. They drop their items.

Come, monsters! Make peace with whatever primitive deities you may follow, and prepare yourselves!◊

Day Two

The monsters do, in fact, burn up in sunlight. Even though the sun cannot be seen through the fog. Odd. A creeper blew up in front of me, doing very little damage to me but punching a hole in the beach. Perhaps they should only be fought on even terrain, and not from above?

The zombies drop feathers. Feathers? Why couldn't they drop potions or ether? Stupid zombies. They're useless.

The long peninsula comes to a hill. I find some coal deposits, as well as a small iron deposit. These are immediately mined, with dirt sealing up the newly-made caverns.◊ I wouldn't want to come back to one of these and think that there was still something in them.

Continuing on, there are sheep that I shear and red flowers that I pick (I hear that the first caretaker was a master gardener). The air turns cold farther out, and snow is on the ground, which I shovel.◊ The shovel itself, even though it's made of solid steel, begins to come apart. I would think that they were stronger than this.

The ice on the surface of the water, however, cannot be extracted without shattering it. If it could be chipped into blocks and shipped out, the local monarch would almost certainly be thrilled with this resource and would finally give me the red nectar I need to finish this quest. Could the snow itself be mined, transported there, and used to chill water into ice blocks? I must try this experiment back at the stockade. The physics of this kingdom are so strange.

I came across a floating section of earth, and felt immediately that there were magical currents within this spot.◊ It is of a different form than black, white, or summoning magic, but it's magic, nonetheless.

Night began to fall. I made it back to the peninsula where I landed, collected the torches, and made a horrible discovery: the boat was missing!◊ It must have floated away. Hurriedly, I used much of the remaining wood to create a workbench, two boats, and a chest to place the spare boat in. We need to build some kind of a harbor so this doesn't happen again.

While I was getting ready to set out, a creeper blew up nearby, and a skeleton begain loosing arrows. In the distance, a landmass could be seen. Did they come there? I slew the skeleton and placed the boat in the water, but another skeleton shot it out from under me before I could reach my destination. I swam the rest of the way to shore, proceeded to kill the skeleton that sniped me, and decided to wait the rest of the night out here.◊ If any monsters come, they will have to swim, at which point they will meet a swift end.

Day Three

Hopping over to the next land mass, I had returned to the stockade.◊ A creeper was there, studiously ignoring the livestock and rushed towards me. Since it was at a higher elevation, I could not kill it fast enough before it blew.◊ I had to use dirt from the storage chests to put dirt over the blast hole.◊

I took cobblestone and built a bridge over to the peninsula, laying down torches every few steps.◊ There must be great wealth there, and that floating earth must hold some sort of secret. I will find out what it is.

Taking the second boat out of the chest, I placed it in the water, whereupon it began shooting away from me.◊ By the time I caught up with it, night had fallen, and once again I was stuck on a sandy island. I hastily laid down sand to prevent the boat from floating away, ◊ and mined the clay that lay there. It was almost a full stack.

There was another, much larger island nearby. I swam to it, laid down torches, and encountered a skeleton and two spiders, whom I dispatched easily. The island did not have any resources of note, alas.

As I came back to the smaller island, I opened the sand barrier, and the boat flew away as I tried to climb in.◊ Why do these things keep happening to me? In my anger, I mined the entire island so that nothing would be left.

This land has been playing tricks on me, and I don't like it one bit. No, sir.

Day Four

My boat! It was in the bay, on the other side of where the bridge now is and can't go under.◊ And it looks like there's nothing on this side, aside form a small iron vein. Oops.

On my way to set torches leading to the floating earth, I was ambushed by two creepers. They blew before I could hack them to death, while I was successful in finishing off a third. With the torches laid, I begin to wonder what exactly I should do with this spot.

I returned to the stockade. My supply of wood had run out, so I cut some trees. The leaves have a very odd property, in which they do not disappear when the trunk is removed. Reports had told me that the leaves would disappear on their own, leaving small seedlings that I could plant to get more trees, but instead I had to pick them apart with my bare hands. It was quite time consuming, and by the time I had finished, night had fallen. It seems to do that at the least convenient time.

I go inside, smelt the iron ore, and store the items that I've gathered so far. I build a fishing rod, in order to test out the theory that it can cause fish to appear in water. It would be nice to conjure something in this bizarre place, after so long.

When I left the second floor, I saw movement in the distance. A monster, this close? No, it was only a pig.◊

I spend the rest of the night reading the journals of the previous caretakers. The matter of Afti does not concern me; only his theories concerning diamond, obsidian, and the Nether. Could that be what these people call the Phantom World? If I could return there, I could get help from Asura and Leviathan in my quest. I must work to find these materials, and create a portal following the journal's instructions.

Day Five

The instructions told me that Afti's tomb was down the coast from the stockade. In the morning, I went and paid the site a visit.◊ Following his instructions, I dug through the cobblestone, and rifled through the treasure chests before me. Only a watch and compass were of any value; the rest was mostly junk. Someone else may find it of use, of course, but I did not. I resealed the tomb and left for the floating earth.

The source of magic beckons.◊ I have brought many picks and shovels with which to unearth it. If I dig straight down, I will eventually find what is in this spot, buried below soil and rock. It cannot hide from me!

Night falls. No monsters have attacked. Are they afraid of this spot? I don't know; the sheep aren't, since two have already fallen to their deaths. Poor beasts. I liked them.

I begin to wish that I had brought a ladder of some kind along. I will have to place dirt in order to lift myself back to the surface, once I've found the source. There is some coal and iron that I carve out of the shaft. While nice, I would prefer to see the rare minerals that Afti had mentioned.

Day Six

Another sheep has fallen to its death this morning. I should have put a fence around the pit. I don't think that there's enough wood in the various chests for that, alas. There certainly wouldn't be enough for a ladder. I need to cut more lumber when I'm done here.

My shovel has broken. I am reduced to digging gravel with my bare hands. It is a slow process, and my fingernails are beginning to fall off. Blood makes it hard to grip the pick. How is it that I can fight terrible monsters from the moon and come out unscathed, but this relatively easy labor hurts me?

I can feel the source. It's close.

Eureka! It was behind a coal seam! It's...◊

My last pick broke.

And I would need to cut wood in order to fashion another, and by then, the boat would have come to take me back.

Blast.

I return to the top of the pit.◊ To my successor: the current depth is 44 blocks. I highly recommend that you bring a length of ladder, if you wish to finish my labor. Remember to take the bridge across the bay, then follow the line of torches down the peninsula and past the hill. Good luck, and may you discover what this red stone is meant to do.

Day Seven

I return to the stockade. I need to prepare this place so that it is suitable for the new arrival. We're almost completely out of wood, so I spend much of the day cutting trees and replanting. I take a short break in order to test out the fishing pole; nothing appears in the water.◊ Perhaps I needed to use bait?

I leave a sign for any one who comes near to the pit.◊ In truth, one sign will not prevent anyone from falling in. It's mainly there so that if someone does, I cannot be blamed.

Night falls. Back in the stockade, I smelt the iron ore, and then begin glassmaking. It's only when I am halfway done that I realize that the sun has come up again. Oh crap! I'm late! Hopefully this doesn't hamper my successor's work. Ahh, I can be so careless sometimes.

The local monarch should be very pleased with my report. Now that I have demonstrated that this land is, indeed, resource-rich, he will definitely give me that red nectar, and then I can be done with this place. I sort of want to find out what the source does, though... perhaps I can return on my own, once this quest is finished.

Anything could happen.

Journal of Aviatus: Redstone engineer.
Prologue I have travelled to these blighted lands upon the orders of my king and the opportunity to further my research of a mysterious and versatile substance known as Redstone. While this substance is very rare within the kingdom it’s also apparently quite abundant in the nether reaches of this cursed soil.

The drawback, as the situation stands, mainly consist of a major monster infestation and a lack of resources to work with. Excluding the efforts of my predecessors, I will have to start from scratch.

Day 1 I arrive in the early morning by the shore and can spot the safe-house fairly easily, the structure is a slight bit chaotic but there is a fair amount of resources inside.

A little bit of scouting around the area reveals to me that there are plenty of animals, quite surprising with the abnormal levels of undead here. I will try to gather some meat later, but for now I will start constructing a mine so I can have a reliable income of resources.

At this point I have also come to the following conclusions:

  • Even though this house has walls they’re fairly thin, as punctuated by the wailings of the monsters.
  • The food I brought on this travel is running low already; I will try to remedy this tomorrow, erecting a farmhouse for a more reliable source of sustenance.

The rest of the day goes by fast, all the while collecting trunks, sand and stone for future constructions. I have heard the sun can set quite fast here, and when it does it’s best to get to safety in a hurry. Abandoning my work collecting sand for a greenhouse to another day, I head home where I put some to be melted and converted to glass. Then start properly on mining, creating an entrance and a few more furnaces for more effective melting.

While this goes on I start to hear sounds emanating from around me, it is hard to pinpoint but it might come from above or, dare I say it... below. Gathering what can pass as courage I peek outside. The first glance around reveals to me nothing, and neither does the second, eventually though I spot the shambling forms of the monsters. At this point my internal sense of curiosity took the lead in the election of my next action, and in the dawning light of the sun I sneaked out armed with nothing but a sword someone had left there and a single iron chestplate.

Day 2 Surprisingly fast the sun rises, and with it the undead come alive with fire. The only thing that remains by the time I reach them is a slightly aged pile of arrows.

With my curiosity sated and new goals in mind I start planning for the new greenhouse, I also start scouting for a fitting place to place the foundations. The final location is down by the sea close to water so the future crops will grow properly, starting on the groundwork I lay down some stone that will serve as a foundation, and make it easier to visualize the final result.◊

While working away the day I suddenly come to the realization that I might not reach back to the Safe-house in time, finishing up the foundations I then grab my trusty sword and begin on the way back.

Just as I’m nearly almost back a zombie notices and makes a bee-line towards me, grabbing the handle tight I slash the beast, three times, and it dies (again). I remain slightly shaken, but the rest of the way goes smooth. Still, I prepare to journey out in the night and hopefully clear the immediate area of monsters.

I spend the night cruising through the zombies, barely taking any damage. That is, until I meet my deadliest foe yet, a skeleton. Sniping me in the back as a crude form of introduction, I am gravely wounded, but decide to take on it's challenge nonetheless. Throughout the night I continue to improve my skill, even find a bow and some arrows which helped greatly.

Day 3 I spend most of the day on the greenhouse, and it’s finally starting to look like something I can use.◊ Using the glass I recently melted makes me realize I still don’t have enough to finish it and that I must make more later.

The sun is however setting and that means I need to get back, and fast! Running home I spot a zombie and decide to take a chance. Charging towards it I try to at least get a couple of hits, however what I didn’t notice was the skeleton in the background, now trying to take me down with a barrage of arrows. I do the smartest thing I can do given the situation, and decide to run away. Only to be stopped by another monster, this one a giant spider. Taking blows left and right I manage to get to the doors safely, although the skeleton situates itself outside, it knows I’m here.

All attempts to kill it end in failure as it manages to shoot me through the door, several times. In the end I decide to wait for dawn to burn those undead to the ground.

I was surprised to notice the skeleton had disappeared again, and although suspicious, I still take the chance at looking around the perimeter of my door, only to be assaulted from the inside of my compound! Fleeing again I manage to survive, if only by a hair's breadth.’ The sun is coming, and the skeleton seems to be gone again, but I’m wiser now. And I will not repea- WHAT! It... It came INSIDE?◊

What should I do what should I do?

Day 4 While I think about what I should do with the skeleton in the attic I continue to mine some more, and although it’s day now I can still hear the faint sounds of undead things moving beneath the earth. Unfortunately I do not have time enough today to reach whatever is hiding in the depths, this is the halfway mark after all, and today I will (hopefully) make the greenhouse workable.

But first I decide to check on the skeleton, lo and behold! It fell for my clever trick, ◊ and I finally manage to dispose of it, sending the undead to wherever they go when they die.

Relieved of that burden I decide to gather the final amount if sand I will need to complete the greenhouse. This task is much more difficult than it seems and by a momentary bout of stupidity I almost choke to death a couple of times. I realize I may have gone overboard with the harvesting, as I can see by the state of the place, it is starting to get empty.◊

Travelling the little distance to the greenhouse I begin planting some seeds I collected earlier and start planting them, I realize that it would be much better if the crops get some light at night too, speeding the growth considerably so I create a few spots where I can put up some torches.

This work goes on until a little before midnight, at which point I spot a shadow lurking just within my perimeter of vision. Naturally this cannot go unexplored so I rig myself up, pull out my trusty sword and begin exploring the night. And at last I can see the creature for what it is, ◊ a thing if I remember correctly was named Creeper. I must say the name fits, for unless I do not spot it in time, this could very well be my bane.◊

I manage to slay it before any damage can be done; apparently they are very easily agitated and explode violently if they come too close. A moment later I spot another one◊ and easily manage to beat it down, this time knowing most of their strength stems from surprise.

Spotting a third one I can’t help but start to feel that this is going too easy, unfortunately whatever wicked deity governs this land has decided to answer my prayers. It spots me long before I can reach it, and I only manage to hit it once escaping into the greenhouse foundations revealing it can’t spot me through the glass.◊ I wonder if they may be tracking victims by other means than sight...

With the sun coming up it’s time to head back and make more glass so I will finally be able to finish the greenhouse. On the way back I see something a bit peculiar however, and decide...◊

This will be the last one.

Day 5 After engaging the last Creeper in combat, I marvel at how used I have got to daily near-death experiences, certainly that can’t be good for the heart... I also remember one of the notes of the people previously in my situation; the powder-like substance Creepers sometimes drops can be used to create powerful explosives, that knowledge will certainly prove useful in my future research.

I spend some time loading the furnaces with sand and go out to collect a bit more wood while it melts. Gathering takes a while, mostly I have to strip the trees of leaves to be able to use them properly, and at least I gain a few saplings healthy enough to be planted.

Coming back I gather the finished glass and head back to the greenhouse where I finish the main section.◊ I also start on a small back section where I plan to grow reeds and cactuses if I manage to get ahold of some.

With that finished and night falling I return to my mine◊ deciding to go deeper and see if I can find any caves that hold valuable resources. This goes fine and I finally break through a cave ceiling, ◊ all the while being very careful of monsters that supposedly lurk down here.

It is not until I very carefully peek around the corner that I notice I am not alone, or more specifically, it’s another skeleton that lusts after my blood. Of course having at least a minimal amount of experience with such I block the path off and manage to kill it by hitting it’s legs. With all this noise it’s also not very strange that I get more visitors.◊

Killing those two and another one that had hid itself deeper in the darkness gives me access to this cave;◊ I can’t help but think that the cave down to the right has some very unnatural angles.

All In all I gather around 10 iron and 30 coal units.

Day 6 This might be the most uneventful day so far, not that I’m complaining, but I remain on guard.

I dedicate part of the day to killing some pigs and manage to gather quite a bit of meat which I will cook later. After that I gather the last of my glass and finish the extra room in the back of the greenhouse, which can be used to grow reeds and cacti, maybe I will try to gather some later.

After various escapades involving a couple of chickens and a fishing rod, I start preparing for nightfall again. I also realize I need to gather more wood later.

Going out killing a final couple of pigs I am suddenly ambushed by another skeleton, ◊ this time from the top of the tree, since I do not have the necessary equipment to deal with such a foe right now I run back and equip my sword and bow, finally killing it in The Battle of My Door. Maybe it would be a good idea to create a wall around the safe-house sometime in the future?

I spend the rest of the night resting some and planning for the final day.

Day 7 I can feel it in my bone like never before; I have confined myself to this spot for far too long, it is time for some adventure.

My hopes for this journey will be this

  • Return by nightfall if possible, and by all means do not miss the transport back to the kingdom.
  • Hopefully find some cactus to grow in my greenhouse.
  • Have some fun.

I set out in the early morning, judging by the clouds the direction should be roughly south of the safe house. Just a little bit further out it seems the landscape is slightly smopther and there are alot more trees, I also pass a cave where there is planted a single torch. Closer inspection rewards me with another skeleton. I, of course, choose to run and leave it to burn in the daylight.◊

Walking a little farther brings something interesting within eyesight, ◊ what could this structure be? I will have to investigate at a later time. For now I can spot something more important to me at the moment, ◊ a cactus!

Now that I have reached most of my goals I will begin the trip back. Passing the small forest, being ambushed yet again at the cave with a torch and hurting myself slightly jumping off a cliff brings me to safety yet again. Although I should mention I took a slight detour, and the view are magnificent!◊

I decide to plant the cacti I found◊ And harvest some of the crops. While waiting for the night to fall. And when I try to exit I am fired at again, Thos damned skeletons, I’ll show them...

Going on a killing spree can be quite freeing, quite freeing indeed. Walking up to the north side of the house I slashed all the creepers there to pieces, a total of 4, walking a little further I notice one of those spiders that bested me last time, and I manage to trick it to attack me from the bottom of a slope. Killing the zombies that came in my way was quite easy too, only about three of them were properly disposed of though. Even on the way back I managed to get a second spider.

Although I almost were killed again when entering the front door, BAM! In my face, an arrow! There was a skeleton inside my coumpound... My... home... AGAIN?

This was my main project, the greenhouse.

Ithilion The Brave

Chronicle of the Expedition, Day One.

I've been assigned to an outpost in virtually unknown lands for one week to gather resources for the war. Personally, I'd rather be fighting on the front lines. However, I understand the need for materials. Fighting with one's bare fists does not sound appealing.

After some time traveling, I have finally arrived at the outpost. Having heard stories of the monsters that roam this region, I immediately look for the arms and armor and equip myself accordingly. Following that, I search for pickaxes and torches before venturing in to the nearby mine.

After choosing where to dig, I dig a tunnel down in a staircase pattern downwards. Although this shortly is thrown into disarray when I run into a small iron vein in my path. After mining the iron, I adjust the tunnel somewhat and dig down. Already I can hear the moans and rattling bones of the undead.

Uncovered a lava flow in my tunnel. Worked my way around and found a large cave with at least one river flowing through it. Plentiful iron deposits scattered around in addition to small amounts of gold. Unfortunately, I chose to only bring stone picks in order to preserve materials. Must return to mine the gold later.

Encountered my first monsters. First one was a skeleton armed with a bow. I retaliated with my own, but unfortunately I am short on arrows. No sooner had I turned a corner after dispatching the skeleton I saw a green, mossy creature matching the description of the "Creepers". Quickly retreating to avoid the explosion, I saw to my horror that another had crept up behind me! I escaped with minor injuries, being too close the blast from the first one. The second I was able to defeat with my sword.

Slipped into lava, burning most of my armor and hurting immensely. Was able to put out flames in nearby river. Thankfully, I brought some cooked pork in case of injury.

Still exploring caves, leaving torches behind to ward off these abominations. Found yet more iron. Sighted more creepers and slew a zombie. My picks are breaking and I'm out of food, plus night is falling. I decide to head back. Almost lost, but manage to find my way back to the outpost. Ambushed by a skeleton on the nearby mountain, forcing me to retreat inside. After setting the iron to smelt, I creep out and dispatch the skeleton with my bow. Only 7 arrows remain.

Dawn has finally come. I was overjoyed to see the undead burn. Unfortunately, the giant spiders are unharmed. According to reports, creepers are also impervious to the sunlight. As I write, the sun continues to rise. I had best return to my work soon.

Day 2:

After outfitting myself once more, this time with axes and shovels, I explored the surrounding area. However, I found myself constantly distracted by the small caves dotted about. Attempted to navigate a boat I found, but it turns out I am incompetent in that area. Must build a replacement before I leave. After slaughtering a few pigs for more meat, even though there is still pork waiting to be cooked at the outpost, I made many arrows and ventured once more into my mine.

Results roughly the same. Some iron, underground rivers, shambling corpses. Encountered a giant spider in the "entrance" of the cavern. Going to explore one of the paths I did not investigate yesterday.

I cannot believe it! My hands shake such that I can hardly write, so great is my excitement! After stepping into this chamber of the cave I saw a waterfall, and plentiful amounts of coal. But that is not why I quiver. No. I also found REDSTONE! I can scarcely believe my eyes! Now I am truly glad I brought an iron pick! Enough writing now! To work!

After swiftly investigating the nearby area and placing torches, encountering one skeleton that cannot reach me and which strangely disappeared after firing on me, I have set to work on the redstone. However, this is not the only discovery. In the room with the skeleton I also saw some diamond deposits. After I finish with the redstone and coal, I shall clear out the area and mine the diamond. Hopefully there will be enough for at least one pick.

Redstone dust! EVERYWHERE! Such a beautiful glow! Such a wonderful feel!

Strange. It feels as if no time has passed at all, and yet the watch I found in the outpost says that dawn is almost upon me. I shall not leave yet, however. The diamond is still there, and I keep stumbling upon yet more redstone. Strangely, I feel no fatigue. I shall continue on to the next day.

Day 3

Upon returning to where I saw the diamond, 2 skeletons immediately opened fire. I turned back around the corner only to continue hearing their bows twang. Peeking out, I saw them fighting each other! Curious. I dispatched them, only to find a 3rd skeleton nearby. This one almost killed me, but I survived. Eating my last bit of food to give me the strength to continue, I investigated the area for more creatures Found more lovely redstone.

Only got two diamonds. Frustrating. Found a small lava deposit, as well as a hole in the floor leading to more lava. Also heard zombies, spiders, and skeletons somewhere nearby. Thankfully, they could not reach me (nor I them, unfortunately).

Found more diamonds after doing some digging. Have 5 now, almost enough for 2 picks. Finally starting to feel tired, shall return to surface shortly.

In a fit of madness, I attempted to store some lava in an iron bucket. It worked. No idea what to do with it, though. Need to do something about lava near entrance to this cavern. Dangerous. Need more buckets. Or water flow. Obsidian is always useful for fortifications.

Came out of the mine at night. Set the gold to smelting, about 10 bars worth, and looked around for undead. None in sight, but a creeper was in the nearby forest in the distance. Felt an odd desire to hunt it down.

Gold done smelting, now working on the iron. About 30 bars worth. 130 some handfuls of redstone dust. Can't stop staring at it. Need to find something else to do.

Went up to the balcony and sniped a hapless zombie. Need to work on my aim. Why am I wasting arrows like this? I think my frustration at not being able to fight on the front has something to do with it.

Cooked all the pork. Day breaks. Curious. I don't feel like mining today. Going to try exploring again.

Day 4

I equipped myself and ventured out into the wild! ...And slaughtered the wildlife. There were a lot of cows nearby. I found a series of cobblestone blocks with torches on them. Curiosity piqued, I followed them. Passed through a patch of desert, and near the end was a sign saying that there was an unexplored cave. Deciding to spelunk for a bit, I went inside and lay down some torches as I went. Plenty of coal and some iron. Cave branched at one point, where I ran into a skeleton. However, I did not explore too deeply as I was running low on torches and ill-equipped for prolonged cave exploration.

Followed the trail to the end. All I saw was a cliff face. I felt there might be something more there, but decided to turn back, since the day was halfway through.

Cooked all the pork I collected. I feel a strange urge coming on me, so I stored the valuables in a chest and ventured out as night fell.

Everywhere. Blood and bones. Massacre. Creepers exploding. The glorious sounds of battle. Sword broke, brought spare. Out of arrows. They come they come they come a horde of zombies. Exquisite wonderful delightful. yearn lovehatehungerdespise. Hunt them kill them bleed them. Hurt hurt hurt hurt pain. Red, all red and blood and pain and hurt. Kill everything kill murderdeathpainhurt.

...It would appear I blacked out, yet it seems I was still moving and acting. Writing as well. I have no idea what happened last night. Everything I was carrying is missing, but the sun is rising. I don't know how long I was out, but while the sun is up I'll see if I can find out what happened. I simply hope it does not happen again...

In case it's not obvious, I kinda died. Had one heck of a productive night, though. About 2 spiders, 10 zombies, 4 skeletons, and 7 creepers slain.

Day 5

Searching the nearby area, I found all I had been carrying the night before scattered across the hill. It seems I was trying to make my way back to the outpost when I lost everything. Feeling somewhat shaken, I returned to the outpost and starting putting things in chests.

I finally figured out what was so familiar about that powder that creepers sometimes left behind. Gunpowder. I created some TNT, although I'm not sure what to do with it. It will doubtless come in handy at some point, however.

Still shaken from my ordeal last night, I have dedicated today to attempting to organize the outpost's chests. Specifically, the armor and tool chests. Also went into the mine for some flint earlier. Found that the lava had dried up after I picked some of it up with the bucket. Unfortunately, forgot to bring torches. Need to remember to place a few there just in case.

Came back up with the flint. Fashioned some iron into a dagger for flint and steel, although I'm not sure where fire would come in handy at the moment. Never hurts to have things on hand, however. Used the rest of the flint to fashion arrows.

Night is falling, and I feel well enough to resume my work. I've returned to the mine and am investigating portions I did not explore near the entrance. Found some iron, but I suddenly feel overcome with fatigue. I shall rest now and continue tomorrow.

Day 6

My time here is almost over. The mining so far has been uneventful, except for a lone creeper attacking me on my way down. I continued mining coal, iron, and the occasional gold.

Went back to the surface for more torches and food.

Found some redstone next to a coal deposit.

Something more interesting has happened near the end of the day. I was trying to find a way around a lava pool to dig deeper when I remembered that there was a nearby river. I dug a channel from the river to the lava. There's now obsidian to be had, but I've forgotten to get the diamond pick and the day is almost over. I'll go retrieve the pick and see if I can make more obsidian through this method.

I only hope I don't black out again. I still feel strange even though over a day has passed.

Day 7

Mining obsidian is hard work. The constant threat of finding more lava under the obsidian makes things worse. I almost lost everything when breaking through a wall of obsidian resulted in lava flowing out. Thankfully, I was able to get away without anything being destroyed, including myself.

I decided to take a break after mining 10 units worth of obsidian. Realizing that it was night already, I headed back to the outpost and put things in storage for whoever comes here next. I left a series of signs pointing the way to the obsidian mine I created, so hopefully others will be able to find it without too much trouble. I also made a new boat to replace the one I wrecked.

The sun is rising, and I feel refreshed. Soon I shall go back home, surrounded by people. And yet, I feel uneasy. Just what happened that night when I blacked out? What caused it? I can only hope that it doesn't happen again when I'm back home. Judging by the mad scribbles I left in my journal, an episode such as that would surely result in my demise... Only time will tell.

Chronicles Of Captain Stevebat

Pre-report: I have come from the frontlines to personally check on the progress of shaping this land, and to see what happened to that insane scientist Afti. Also I seek to do my duty in shaping this land and get supplies to my men on the front. I will be arriving in Minecraftia shortly and will keep all further notes in this log.

Day 1 I arrive on the outpost with little issue however I wish I could say the rest about the first day. when I arrived at the outpost I was given the following supplies: Some stone, a broken breastplate, and a pile of worthless tatters that could be once described as pants. Nonetheless I set out. The first thing I did was check the greenhouse to gain some supplies I harvested the grain and replanted more seeds breathing a grateful prayer to the man who built this place. I created a few tools to help me clear the land and a sword to help keep me alive unfortunately these were all made of stone due to the lack of iron. I managed to find a cave and explore a bit before the day set on me and I had to return to base. Then things turned grim. This night I have slain 2 skeletons, 4 zombies had 3 of those damn creepers explode on me. also I encountered 3 spiders the first 2 I managed to slay but then there was the third one. for starters my sword broke and the spider gravely wounded me. I was barely alive and I had to activate my emergency magic teleport (thanks be to notch for that) however I have lost all of my current supplies and will have to restock and hopefully get my materials back.

Day 2: Well this day has gone smoothly I have made my self a leather helm and armor and I spend the day exploring. really it was uneventful aside from a creeper who exploded behind me causing some bodily harm. I begin mining the cave located near the base and have found a new nook to explore. Not much to speak of but I did successfully locate some Iron. my clock is telling me it is now daytime however I think I will explore some more.

Day 3: NO! I have failed again. this time I explored deep into the shaft finding a dungeon with zombies in it. Have you ever hunted zombies by poking them through a hole with a sword? its quite entertainging I tell you. Having destroyed the generator and killing all the zombies and the lone creeper I go up another shaft carelessly. The last thing I heard was a Hiss and then all went black. I woke up at the base with all my equipment stripped. Odds are my Emergency Teleport spell activated again but beyond that I dont know what happened. I try to find my gear again but fail miserably and I sit in the base till morning.

Day 4 Last night I found a strange drawing indicating a gate made of obsidian. this gate was 4X5 and was such that its corners could be cut off. the writing was of an unintelligible script and I could not determine what it was. However there was obsidian available. Curiosity took the best of me so I set off to gather building materials for a building to accomadate such an object. I finish building the object midday it is set in a pit with a roof of cobblestone I take the flint and tinder I made and lit the gate as shown on the page. Tonight I will investigate the other side of the gate.

Later on Day 4 May god had mercy on my soul for opening the portal to such a hellish place let me recollect my thoughts... I am doomed... I have lost the portal and as such have been stuck here for days without little food and no water. I am sending this journal back using means of teleportation but I myself shall never see the light of day again. I will catalogue the demons here: monstrous half pigs who wander aimlessly and the truely demonic ghasts... creatures of horrific being they can spit fire and mercilessly hunt men down. This will be the last of my journal... If anyone seeks to follow me through the portal I implore them to mark their trail for to get lost in this damned world is to be sentenced to a long and slow death. I will make sure my own death is swift by the sword however I hope others will not be as foolish as I have. (Journal was found at the gate)

Final Post Mortem notes stevebats journal was found lying outside the gate and was transferred to the library. his remains and the materials he used were never found however. He was honored for bravery and skill but his mission was deemed a failure.

Torbik
My name is Torbik, I am but a mere sailor aboard the Flying Cuttlefish, a ship charged with transporting goods and people to and from various outposts on the outskirts of our fair kingdom in search of resources to aid the mounting war effort. I do not fancy myself a scholar, but the long days at sea leave little else to do but read and write during our hours of rest.

We have arrived near the outpost in the dead of night due to a trick of the weather, the air seems to hold a feeling of malice, as if something wants us to leave. Despite this some of the crew on watch seem to be taunting the denizens of this place, the shore crew is ready to leave now so I can… Is something hissing?

Day 1

I live! I was able to escape the attack on the ship by diving into the ocean, but I do not know what happened to the rest of the crew, and the ship is surely at the bottom of the ocean now thanks to those exploding... THINGS. I watch the sunrise from the shore as I thank the spirits for my escape, and give a moment of silence for those who didn't make it, may they rest in piece.

But now to worry about myself, with the ship and all it's stores gone I will have to rely on whatever has already been gathered at the outpost. I decide to start by searching the grounds for supplies, hopefully I can find the current caretaker of this place...

Strange, there seems to be some sort of glowing doorway near the main building hidden under a large section of cobblestone, nearby lies a scorched book which I take to read later..

This isn't good, there doesn't seem to be anyone else here. I wonder what could have happened to the previous explorer? There seems to be enough supplies here for the moment, but I'll have to gather more eventually. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see if any more ships come.

I spend the rest of the day reading in the library in search of some clues to what happened here, they were quite informative. It seems the last person here, a captain named Stevebat, became trapped somewhere beyond the portal where I found his book.

Despite my better judgment I've decided to go through the portal and try to find him, though his writing indicates he is most likely dead already. Still I cannot leave here without making sure, and IF he's still alive time is of the essence!

I make a stop at the base to pick up some necessary supplies, armor and to make a sword out of the stone already gathered, there are few steel ones left.

Night has fallen already, and I can hear the sounds of something near the gates, I manage to spot one of those green creepers before it can try attacking, circling wide to lure it away from the buildings I wait for it to follow me before hacking at it, it is dispatched before it can explode leaving behind some gun powder. Another one lies in wait not far away and I kill it in the same fashion, that's for the Cuttlefish!

Hiding near the entrance of the portal cave is a body, thinking it could be a member of my crew I rush to aid, only to find a monster instead, the zombie is slain quickly, only to reveal another one followed by a skeleton. The second zombie dies from an arrow from the skeleton, I dodge a few more arrows before closing and ending it's un-life, but not without an arrow or two to the chest, thank the spirits for this armor!

Finally I make it inside the cave, The very air here seems drawn toward the structure and I can hear the magical energies even as I walked over stones covering the pit. I shall leave my log in this cave in case some other soul should find it before I return, however I have some flint and steel with me so reigniting the portal on the other side should pose no problem, I think...

Day 2

Ugh, Going through a portal is an... unique experience... I managed to survive the trip with little damage, though I wonder if my eyebrows will ever be the same. The pig-men... things do not seem overtly aggressive, they have a disturbing tenancy of wandering around with some kind of sword, I don't trust them mostly they ignored me. The gasts however seem hell-bent on my destruction, launching flaming spheres at me at any opportunity, I discovered that they can be deflected back with a well timed blow and spent most of the time there either hiding or bouncing the fire back as if I were playing some demented game with these demons.

Hmm... I wonder if someone would pay to see such a match...? What am I thinking!?

Anyway, eventually I managed to find the body of Stevebat half sunken in the mud of that hellish place, was able to recover several things, including a diamond pick, a compass, a watch, and many samples of the strange materials found there.

Strangely the compass and watch seem useless on the other side of the portal, come to think of it my armor felt heavier too... But everything else seems unaffected. Bah, I'm a sailor not a scientist! I have more important things to worry about!

Iverum
Journal of Iverum: Lower Engineer from the Royal Engineer Corps

I seem to have been tossed into this mad project by my fellow engineers. The weasels from the court came around looking for 'volunteers' and my master gleefully submitted my name to the ledger. It seems I'm to be shipped off to some deserted land for a week to catalog any discoveries for the court. Fighting a war on two fronts has stretched our resources thin. I'm beginning to doubt the sanity of the king, but I'd never say this if I weren't sure that this journal will never leave the hell I'm surely travelling into. We arrive tomorrow morning.

I know not what awaits me.

Day 1

The pier surprises me. Apparently the ones sent before me were not completely incompetent. I find a smattering of random supplies at the small hut near the beach. Apparently a greenhouse has been built as well. These people seem to be getting on quite well.

I spend the morning exploring the compound. I find the library and spend a few more hours reading the journals of my predecessors. As I read I feel a sense of dread. Obsidian. The Engineers know this material well. It makes the deadliest weapons and hardest tools. It's rare for a reason. It lusts after blood. The madmen before me sought it and sought to keep it from others. This talk of portals terrifies me to the core.

I return to the pier and begin to comb the beach. I know that one of the previous occupants must have left a boat near the shore. I find it and set off to find the portal spoke of in the journals. I bring with me some supplies. The trip is longer than I anticipated, but soon I find it. * Ignore the construction on the ridge, realized I didn't have a picture after I started building

I build a makeshift port for the boat and set about the island next to the portal. Things seem amiss already. I find strange snow when I go out for wood. As the night begins to fall I return to the cliff overlooking what I will call Portal Isle. I begin to build. The night is peaceful and my torches provide adequate light to build by. I will continue this journal tomorrow. For tonight, I work with purpose. Day 2

My framework is complete, but I lack the supplies required to truly begin construction. I return to the main settlement to resupply. On the way my mind wanders to the portal and I imagine the strange monsters that were recorded in the journals. I may meet them soon. As I rummage through the chests I find armor and weapons. I don the armor gratefully, choosing the slightly battered chest plate over the newer ones, someone braver than I may need them. I leave the weapons where they lie for now.

On my return to Portal Isle and my construction I dig up some sand to smelt into glass in my furnace. My construction requires a large amount, but I'm careful not to destroy the natural embankment. I do another round of the island, gathering wood. Across the way I see something strange, perhaps this is another consequence of the portal. Night is coming again. I return to my shelter and get the furnace going.

I work through the night again. This time I've managed to complete most of the lower floor and now stand above the ground. I begin to build the second floor. I can see the small bay with my boat from here.

The sun is returning finally. Thus ends the second night by the foul monument. I have yet to touch the whirling mists in the portal, but it seems to beg me to come closer. I will explore more after some brief rest. Day 3

Morning comes and I can still see the portal across the water. I decide to take a day to explore the surrounding area. The portal seems to be affecting things around here. I take the boat out. This place is beautiful. If it weren't for the constant twisting knot of fear in my stomach I'm sure I would enjoy this assignment. Beautiful places to learn how to manipulate the elements.

It seems the portal is manipulating the world. Despite the eerie effect of trees floating in the air and the strange land bridge the landscape is still gorgeous.

I decide to return to Portal Isle. On my way under the land bridge I note a cave. I make a mental reminder to return and explore later. Now I go to the portal. Entranced I step through. The world shimmered and suddenly I'm somewhere warm. I look around, noting the burning ground around me. The rock here is incredibly brittle and shatters with a single swing of my pick. I explore briefly, finding a strange glowing stone. It breaks into powder, but it's near the ceiling of these massive caverns. Many times I almost fall to my death.

I collect a small amount before returning to the portal. The portal transfers me back to the world I'm familiar with. Cold, damp night air cools me as I step through. I look around and realize that the bastards had built another portal near the main settlement. This is much worse than I thought. Nothing I can do now though.

Night is quiet I take a chance and head to the pier. Nothing leaps out at me from the shadows. I return to the watchtower and finish the second floor. I feel something watching me as I rest and write this entry. I'll get some rest before I go on with my exploration. Day 4

The sun wakes me. I'm exhausted, but I made a promise yesterday to return to that cave. Passing by the portal on my way I give it a long stare, daring anything to come through after me. The cave contains some iron ore and coal. I mine the sparse deposits near the surface before noticing that it continues down into the darkness beneath. I take a chance and explore the cave. It's complicated and confusing. Many springs well up underground. Eventually I return to the surface and retrieve some lumber to finish the watchtower.

I return home, still exhausted. Work is never finished. However, I'm able to finish the roof of the tower as night falls. I'll head inside to rest for the night. Day 5

I couldn't sleep. I could hear the creatures outside all night. I went to roof to escape notice through the windows. The sunrise is welcome especially today. As the journals indicated the monsters burn under the sun's harsh gaze.

I realize that my trip through the portal must have called these monsters to me. I ready myself to venture through again. I have equipped myself with iron armor and iron blades. A bow is in my hand and a quiver on my hip. I am ready to face this hell world and any new dangers it brings.

The warm air greets me again. This world is dominated by hell-fire and world's blood. It's not a happy place. New inhabitants have appeared, and they seem to be uninterested in me. They are deformed hideously and cry out. I try to ignore them, but I cannot help but dwell on what caused them this harm. After some brief exploration I return to the great cavern near the portal. A hellish screech fills me with terror and I whirl about to find myself beset by a fireball. I duck and feel the explosive force behind me. I cannot believe my eyes as I see the great white creature that attacked me. It loses interest quickly however, and retreats.

It's explosive attack lit some of the ground around me and I navigate carefully back to the portal. Once again it returns me to the main settlement. Night is near. I decide to rest in the library for the night. Day 6

In the morning I return to Portal Isle. I make a vow to enclose this portal and protect the world from any evil it can unleash. I pray to any that come after me they they do not open the portal again. I sealed it for a reason.

I spend the day building this stone tomb for the monolith. Tomorrow I will return to the main settlement. Hopefully I can sleep among the howls of the monsters. Day 7

I am utterly exhausted. The replacement will arrive tomorrow and I can leave. I got little sleep, and am happy to see the sunrise. I wait until the sun has burned away the worst of the monsters, then I return to the pier. I will leave most of my supplies in the chest at the pier. The successor chest contains the more valuable items.

I will be returning with a small sample of the glowing dust for the Engineers. I pray, do not reveal the source to them. I will not. They will have to make due with the small sample I bring. This journal will remain in the library, safe from prying eyes of royals. I hope that the king and his court never learn of the dreadful things I've seen. They would turn them into abominations that aren't fit to walk the hellish world that I've seen with my own two eyes.

I pray for you. Do not make the same mistakes those before us have. Destroy the remaining portal. If you can, scatter the obsidian, make sure no one can ever replicate the portals.

I will watch for your arrival.

Formerly TheInternet Now Vorpy
I am Net. A homeless drifter who spent the majority of his life wandering into the wilderness, punching trees and breaking stones with eggs collected from chickens. I constructed a small house made from wool I collected from local sheep, and was fine living a meager existence in the tundra covered in snow and insane creatures of the dark, looking out the window to see swarms of monsters hunting for something to kill. Eventually I recieved a letter from a kingdom stating they were looking for volunteers to harvest materials for a war. I am indifferent to their war but I would like to see what others have left behind. Instead of taking the king's ship to the island, I have him point me to its general direction and I swim there myself.

Day 1 I reach the island and familiar myself with the post. I collect a couple of tools and materials to construct a park, because parks are manly and filled with trees. I built one back on my home island, and it would add a great asthetic to the island, and something to do. Before I walked over to the woods I heard a dark swirling noise from under me. I went to go check it out, and it turned out to be a portal, lined with obsidian. It felt dreary and very dark, which motivated me to go in immediately. As the purple colors swirled with madness I entered a new realm, and I called it the Nether. It is a fitting name. I walked all around me and there was this dark red stone, Netherstone, and I mined a lot of it. It was eerily silent everywhere, and actually quite boring. Nothing to do, so I left the Nether with my Netherstone.

When I left I appeared next to a very tropical biome with lush green grass and arch trees. I decided, since I didn't have an axe, that I would headbutt the trees until I broke them down into logs. I carried the logs with my teeth to the Landsender Outpost, picked up some Cobblestone and ventured off to the area next to the Vicotry Garden....wait. That's not right. I then took the sign out of the ground and rewrote it.

It now said "Victory Garden".

I placed a layout of Half-steps of Cobblestone along the edge of my grounds, and planted the trees. Now all that was left was wait for the sunrise, the day things get a little harder.

Day 2

There were Zombies and Skeletons under my Park platform already. I could hear them. In my boredom I got a built a little fountain right next to the park. I'm adding class to this oupost. I then looked to the sky. It was bare, that was a good thing, but also a bad thing. There is so much room up there to build, so I decided...

...I was going to build a Rail Fortress.

I collected a few hundred clusters of cobblestone, mined by the previous, and worked on constructing this sky fortress. I constructed a ladder to help me reach the sky as well. As I was building the cobblestone rails, I fell off.

Into the water, right next to a colossal spider. I looked at him and laughed at how much difficulty he was having swimming. He got angry and attempted to attack me. So I pulled out a small cube of wool that I found when punching sheep and resorted to smashing that spider in the face until it fell unconsious, and slipped under the ocean, to drown.

Then came along another spider, who tried to sit down beside me and scare me away, sitting along the edge of this cobblestone dock I was swimming to. I had no weapons, except for this little piece of string I had gotten from the spider. I ran at that spider and whipped it to death with that piece of string.

It never stood a chance.

I decided to climb back up the mountainside as the sun was rising, and a skeleton was wailing around, burning. I took my piece of string and strangled it to death with my trusty string. I strangled something to death that doesn't even breath...strange.

Day 3

I found the grave of Captain Stevebat. I put a flower on his grave and muttered a prayer, while making a border around it to keep away cow footprints and worms.

Later I made my way down to an empty area near the fort and placed some Netherstone fire traps. Creeps and animals never seem to stop themselves from stumbling into fire, and it would be a great way of killing the few dumb ones out there.

I promptly returned to the nether to collect more Netherstone. Now the nether was filled with horrifying cries. I kept my distance from open areas. I decided that I was going to plant trees in the Nether out of boredom, while also making a small cave there for others to expand on, right next to the Nether Garden, which was it's name. I collected some Slow Sand found right below it, it looked like creeper faces, brown and all chocolatey...mmmm chocolate. A ghast fireball rocketed at me but I did not know where, and the chocolate I was stepping in was slowing me down, and it exploded right next to me. I had to run away from that before more shots were hurled at me. I ran to the portal, not because of the Ghast, but because I had other things to do.

I collected some pork scattered about outside of the fire traps and ate it. Then I grabbed some cobblestone and returned to working on the sniping rails at the sniping fortress. As I was working I mistepped and fell. Advancing towards me were a creeper, a skeleton, and 3 zombies. I climbed back up the ladder and avoided fighting them until they dispersed, or the sun rose.
