Gundam's mostly been an Anime First sorta deal in that regard, so I dunno what you mean.
"We all fail. We all make mistakes. That is what makes us human."Well colour me impressed. The Mononoke movie that was coming this year has been postponed on account of them replacing Sakurai as Medicine Seller's VA
.
Bold move considering how iconic that role is for him, but their explanation of feeling it would be bad optics to keep him in a role when the movie will (and series as a whole did) depicted both the suffering and the catharsis of women was weirdly vindicating.
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boys> Yeah, why? Anime is its own thing.
I suppose it's because while it's true that anime is it's own thing it does help to have a strong ties to a manga,a successful anime will help sell the manga it's based on for example
Its like how in Hollywood plenty of successful films are based off adaptations of books or comics
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI am minority here, but my problem with the Grave of Firefiles is that most of the drama in it could be avoided if MC was not an idiot. I get that he is just a little boy, but he made a bunch of stupid and unnecessary things during the story that led to even more tragedy that could be avoided.
You know, I like a good drama, but in this case it reminded me of the scene from vol. 6 of Apothecary Diaries I read yesterday. After reading "Romeo and Juliet" both Mao Mao and Jinshi only though that M Cs were idiotes and could avoid a lot of drama if they communicated better and understood their situation.

On the other hand Grave of the Fireflies goes full spoiler trope (Death by Flashback to tell the audience that the kids are really going to die), but most people seem to have forgotten this long before the middle of the film.
There were viewers surprised at that? I thought it was obvious all along from the general tone.
I think Grave of the Fireflies is a must-watch, but not a must-love, and I recommed both watching it critically and reading the very short novella it's based on (there's a translation out on the web that is weirdly literal but keeps the substance). The film is engaging and touching, but also manipulative and with an agenda I don't like. The novella is very autobiographical and was for the author a catharsis of the guilt he felt for his sister dying, which I certainly respect. But Isao Takahata was more interested in berating the youth of the time for their profligate ways during the boom years by reminding them of what their parents had gone through. Hence it ends with a shot of contemporary Tokyo, and there's the impression that the two could have lived boy could have swallowed his pride towards the old woman. The novella made it clear that without enough food to go around, the woman was becoming paranoid that these two distant relatives were stealing, and they fled to escape the mounting persecution.
If you ignore the intended subtext, it works much better as an anti-war film. It's a masterpiece in spite of its creator.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.Started reading the manga of Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill
There's a bit less of it than I expected, but it is at least nice and cozy.

I'm not too familiar with the series, but a quick look on Wikipedia suggests that it's had hiatus and slowed down because of author health issues. It originally ran in Weekly Shounen Jump from 2004 to 2009, but it was having hiatuses in the later part of that run, so in 2009 it switched to the monthly magazine Shounen Square where it ran until 2013. It then went on a 2 year hiatus before returning in 2015 in Jump Square Crown (since renamed Jump Square Rise) where it's been in since. It doesn't look like it's had any further hiatuses, but its current magazine only get a new issue 4 times a year (once a season) so it's been continuing slowly. Looks like it only gets a new volume released every year or two.

Does anyone else find it unusual for an anime not to have a successful or obscure manga as it's source material?
