For a while, I thought the Byzantine units in Age of Empires II actually were speaking Greek instead of Latin as the game's wiki said.

Teachers remained inside the school at all times; outside school hours, they went to sleep in a secret bunker underneath the building that was accessed by a hidden switch in the corridor wall. I didn't believe that they had lives of their own because I assumed that they came into existence as teachers and this was their sole purpose for being.

Dude, I used to think the same thing but of people with the same first name. Thankfully I grew out of it by middle school because there was another kid who shared my name there so that would have been awkward.

As a kid I didn't know that the "coons" in Where the Red Fern Grows were raccoons. I imagined them as some red fox/red panda/maned wolf looking creature. In hindsight, it's disappointing that they're just raccoons. The book made them sound more mysterious.

There was some book I had to read in grade school that kept mentioning poplar trees- I kept reading it as "popular trees", and wondering what made these particular trees so popular.

I didn't know that The Simpsons was spoofing the classic Twilight Zone episode "It's a Good Life" at the time, so for a long while, I thought Bart had become a communist.

When I first saw The Simpsons episode where they get a TiVo, I somehow thought that Marge was skipping over the commercials live, probably because I either missed or they didn't show the part where she recorded the shows beforehand. Took me a while to realize that the the TiVo box can't travel to the future, and even if it could the networks would never allow that...

[up] On a related note, I grew up with analog cable TV, and when I first heard about the ability to rewind TV channels on satellite TV sometime in my latter elementary school years, I thought I would be able to rewind years back and watch things such as 90's Sesame Street episodes. Eventually, I found out the truth from some guy who stopped by my house.

Now, for a couple negative things I believed:

Sometime when I was in second grade, I saw a small part of a non-fiction TV show (sorry but I don't know which one) where a man was telling his studio audience that "World War III has already begun," whatever he meant by that. Of course, I took that literally, especially since he said such child-traumatizing lines as "...and they want us dead! Are there any questions?" and "...so that they could kill their baby on the plane!" Another thing that didn't help was when I later heard an out-of-context line on a news report about a specific number of guns being "aimed at the Canadians", so I automatically assumed that was about World War III. Later, after my second-grade teacher read a certain book (I can't remember the title) to the class, which is about a girl from a refugee family, she told us "Canada is a good, safe country. Canada is never at war." So I knew that my home country was safe...

...but I didn't think the US was so lucky. In fact, I thought that if I went back to Disneyland (where I had already been twice), I would be in danger of being gunned down by random World War III soldiers. I remember also worrying about a relative of mine when she went to the US. I don't remember when I got over this fear.

Sometime in my latter elementary school days, thanks to a book titled 103 Questions Children Ask about Right from Wrong, I became afraid to listen to radio stations because I was worried that I would enjoy a song, only to be told that I wasn't allowed to enjoy it because of "bad" (immoral) lyrics. For this reason, I used to mute my TV whenever I checked the schedule on Channel 16, which showed the analog cable channels and played a local radio station. Luckily, I overcame this fear of radio stations before or during seventh grade, and became familiar with many great songs on said radio station.

Now, to close this off on a more positive note, I used to think NBC and APTN (Aboriginal Peoples Television Network) were the same channel at some point in my earlier elementary school years (I think). I also didn't realize that two local radio stations were, in fact, different stations when I was young.

I used to think that Live Action TV Shows were actually live.

I mean, why else would they be called live action?

On a similar note, if you have a live action show where the entire cast is zombies, is it really live action?

[up]I used to think that too.

In response to your question, it depends. Personally, I consider something live-action even if it involves heavy makeup, puppets, or animatronics. Things that are CGI, traditionally animated, or stop motion are not live action.

Check out this fancast I made! Any votes would be greatly appreciated!
