Yes, best to lose it quick. You gain so much freedom afterwards.

And what is Aoi?

I would be Tau, btw.

Right, because everybody in Warhammer 40 K is the paragon of sanity.

If you like WH40K, may I recommend Shinji And Warhammer 40 K?

Wow. That was a very interesting review of the series you linked to, there, Wicked223.

I do want to comment that I haven't seen the dubbed version—I saw the subbed version, which basically means that I hear what the characters are saying, in their own voices, but in my mind. And I then go on to remember that.

Unfortunately, watching a dub tends to fuck up my memory of this. Because I tend to idealize the voice-acting when I imagine it by myself, and a real product is rarely better than my idealized version of it.

I did find it interesting that Jesu Otaku mentions that she recommends people not see it when depressed. I actually wonder, what if someone is depressed? Would they appreciate it more?

I certainly know that, while I wasn't (clinically, at least) depressed when I saw the series, I was in my last year of college, and had an overload of homework, and unanswered questions to myself about what I'd do beyond said last year, and a sleep schedule that was sufficiently screwed up it made me basically nocturnal. Somehow, Shinji resonated with me. And that may be part of the reason I appreciate his character.

Replies to other things:

src9: Ive reached an important point on life. I am in chapter 24 of EVA. But what ending should I watch first?

Actually, you've probably watched 25 and 26 by now, but I wanted to suggest you watch End of Eva, just to have someone try out that idea for once.

Tzetze: @ninja: That's what you get for living in the CSA

Dude, historical revisionism much, or am I misinterpreting you?

Tzetze: I can't believe that I'm actually typing this, but I want to move the avatar derail. Who's sexiest?

...actually, come to think of it, no character in Evangelion was all that sexy.

However, again, this is my brain being unable to separate personality from sexual attractiveness. As I've said before, Ritsuko was the awesome Hot Scientist at the beginning, but my opinion of her fell far by the end of the series.

vandro: First off: Asuka has a more believable personality than a doormat.

THANK YOU!!! TAKE THAT, REI (FANS)!

Also, Misato is a real woobie. Mainly because what I remember most defining of her is her distraught slumping over at the table, cordless phone in hand.

Zyxzy's location reads "The Chicago CSA", Glenn.

In any case, this is pasted from Troper Updates.

Wicked 223: I have seen the light! The clouds of obfuscation and lies have been dispelled, to let the light of truth shine into me! The impentatrability of the truth has pierced, to lay out the sheer, undeniable strands of knowledge bare for me to see!

I finally know why I hate Shinji so much. This is why.

Tzetze:Well, the whole "Come the fuck on Shinji, do something!" impulse kinda led me to realize that I should do something about my own life, so maybe that was the point? Even if it wasn't, it's still important to me personally.

AFGNCAAP:That's exactly how I feel about him—referencing Tzetze's post. When his own reasons to do something fail, people are still depending on him.

Zyxzy:I think that's sorta the point. Inactivity leads to ill.

Did I mention here that I find 99% of the cast of NGE to be unlikable?

Nah, that was the avatar thread... anyway.

I find 99% of the cast of NGE to be unlikable

EDIT: of course, 99% is not accurate, it means "most of them".

Rei has that personality at a level that very few people in Real Life do, and most of them were kidnapped for years or something.

I think it has something to do with the fact that SHE'S THE CLONE OF A FRIGGIN ALIEN GOD! Do we really expect someone like to be a healthy, well-adjusted person? And if we do, is that reasonable?

EDIT: Ninja-ed.

No, it's reasonable in-universe, and my example is similar to her upbringing. I just wanted to try a justification for the Uncanny Valley factor - have you ever met anybody anything like Rei? I haven't.
