Bumping this to the top and pinging ~Master N to see if we can narrow down the problem part.

How much is the fic like this as the The Lovely Bones also starts with a rather uh detailed rape scene of someone who's Shinji's canon age.

And I don't think anyone would suggest cutting that.

Basically, the Complete Monster thread cut the two examples for the fic because it has an underage rape scene that, while played for horror, still goes into too much detail to be considered okay. Here is the chapter in question, and everyone agreed it crossed the line. And if this is so explicit that we decided it should not have CM entry, then it should not have a page period.

I repeat my point above. I don't see the difference between that and this. Especially their both played horrifyingly.

To be fair, there was also that other fic that got reported here based on a CM thread discussion, and it was determined to be ok.

A child rape scene isn't inherently cutworthy if the scene is Played for Drama or Played for Horror. As in, if the point isn't to be sexy then it's playing something disgusting and horrific completely straight, even if the amount of detail seems tasteless.

Really? Then why did we even cut the examples to begin with? It just seems bizarre that a work is not allowed to have a CM for being too graphic, yet it can still have a page despite being too graphic. Even if it is played for horror, there is a certain line that the work should not cross, and those two scenes did. Frankly, if the book also has the same problem, it should not have a page either.

Because the fic violated the rules of the wiki by crossing a line into being too graphic for the 5P thread. Or at least that is what I thought.

Umh where was it ever stated that was against sites rules?

I have to admit, I am kind of wary of the Complete Monster thread doing that. It's not their job to pass judgment on content policy compliance and the rule has always been that non-creepy, non-explicit examples are OK even from cut works.

OK, taking stock of that page ... "how he missed his wife" appears to be from Shinji - are we talking of a child marriage here? That said, yes, that scene between Melona and Shinji looks pretty explicit to me.

I've seen descriptions of sex scenes that are meant to be arousing and those that are meant to be horrifying, and there is often a characteristic difference in focus on the sex act in the former and the psychological aspects in the latter. This one seems to be about half of each. Hard to say.

Mind you the fact this is a sex fic with a 14 year old is something I'm more worried about. As I'm pretty sure that isn't allowed.

Especially parts like this.

Why is this being peddled? This isn't even true. The various districts all set it higher.

Because most people don't do the research, it's too hard and time-consuming.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere with this. If it's unclear whether or not the sex is meant to be horrifying, then there's a chance it might need to be trashed after all.

I am concerned that it might be meant to be a bit of both (depicting a hurtful event as such and as paedo-bait).

I feel like something can be too schlocky for the CM thread and still not violate P5. This is gross as hell, but I think it's gross as hell in a shock-value horror way, not a titillation way

Frankly, and I said this on another page, intentions are not as important to me as execution is. The writer may have intended for the scene to be horrifying, but it is written in a way that feels exploitative nonetheless.

I’d say keep since it’s clearly meant to be as unsexy as possible, an actual child wasn’t hurt, and if you’re genuinely turned on by the scene then you seriously need a list of nearby churches.

I, uh, don't know if "go to church" and "a child rape scene" being in the same conversation has quite the implications you wanted it to... (But seriously so many awful jokes came to mind, trying to be good though).

I might take a look later myself to get an idea of how horrifically it's portrayed.

I'm up to chapter 5 in my skim. So far "the scene" hasn't happened yet but what I can say is:

• Numerous female characters are getting turned on by Shinji but IDK how old any of them are
• So far it's honestly really tame, like characters as I said are getting aroused but there's been nothing explicitly pornographic. Yet.

It's a weird combination of "this feels kinda gross but so far nothing is really happening"

There's a plot and villains and stuff from what I can tell, though I don't know either of the works and I'm speed-reading.

Okay, I hit chapter 10 and whether or not it contains the scene in question, seeing how Shinji's kidnapping was handled, I'm convinced it was meant to be horrific. Checks out there.

The problem I see now is that a lot of this story is about a 14 year old having sex. Like, a lot. So the issue isn't one detailed rape scene, it's how the rest of the sex is described and the fact that, as I said, everyone wants to jump Shinji's bones.

Is it just the normal harem comedy scenario or does it go beyond that? (To elaborate, is Shinji having actual detailed sex or is it just "cut to black, they banged offscreen?")
