Yeah- what I've heard is that it was a deliberate choice on their part; the costume is created by CG to hit home that it's made from pure energy, not any Earth-based material (or even anything comparable). I've also heard they're continually tweaking the effects, so we likely won't see the completely finished product until the movies itself comes out; the Wonder Con footage and the new trailer have me cautiously hopeful (not a big GL fan, but I admit I find the concept very intriguing).
It's the same way I feel about the effects in Tron Legacy, the plot and setting gives a lot of leeway to the FX because looking slightly unnatural adds to the unnatural origin. I can't say it looks exactly as how I would have done it but some things work better in execution than concept.
And I have to say that what gets me excited is that this is a real Big Damn Movie, this is something worthy of an intergalactic superhero. It uses a threat of apocalyptic levels. So many other movies try to do the same thing on a budget, which usually doesn't work. It's the same praise I can give 2009 Star Trek in comparison to other Star Trek movies.

^^I figured it'd be something like that; I can understand that rationale. Gotta say, really digging Mark Strong as Sinestro; I've always imagined him as sounding like Alan Rickman, personally, but I like it.

I'll turn your neocortex into a flowerpot! You know, I'm almost going to be sad when(?) Sinestro goes evil. It strikes me you could do some really neat things with Sinestro as a loyal Green Lantern. . . and still an antagonist, because he's also a Knight Templar. Basically, have him be the "I did what I had to do" guy, contrasted against Hal's greater idealism.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI just saw that other trailer for the first time and frankly I couldn't be more excited to see this movie. i mean it looks insanely promising, probably more promising than the Thor film (but I can't be too sure, I'm not an Aussie so I haven't seen it yet.). I'm even curious about the villain, I think he'll be interesting.
I'm still not sold on the way Sinestro looks though, perhaps his eyes feel too wide for me or something. And I'm still not sold on the visuals but I guess I can let it slide. While I'll probably never truly 100% like Kilowag's look, his voice is perfect.
The Blog The ArtRyan Reynolds gets a magic ring and turns into a green monster. Do not want.
I like my coffee black just like my metal.Seeing the trailer attached to Thor convinced me to see it. I guess they fixed the effects, cause they didn't look crappy this time around.
Plus, chaingun. That's exactly what I would make if I had a ring.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.I was considering wearing my plastic green lantern ring when I go to see this movie before, but now I'm definitely going to do it. Every time. No exception.
Also, thought it was a nice touch when they had Parallax spinning around that giant rock thing, and it looked like it resembled the Sinestro Corps. symbol. Nice foreshadowing they have going there.
There's something from the trailer that originally got to me before I forgot it in the awesomeness that was the rest of the trailer, but it's bugging me now that it's come back to me.
He created a flamethrower construct. With real flames. Not green flames as an imitation of a flamethrower. How exactly does that work? My mind is kind of boggled by that one, DESPITE the whole line about the constructs limitations only being their minds.
I *think* there's actually basis for that in the comics. Essentially, a construct is made of emerald energy. However, it can have real effects. This doesn't get used much, since it also means those effects can't be any more powerful than they'd really be.
IOW, make a green flamethrower that spits green flame, and the flame burns as hot as the ring can make it. Make a green flamethrower that spits mundane flame, and it burns as hot as mundane flame produced by that design of a flamethrower burns.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI don't think I've ever CRIED while watching a trailer, but damn this one
is too amazing.
At least the CG bashing stopped. For now.
Also, kinda bummed that they did what pretty much everyone else is doing. You should NEVER throw one of the most powerful villains of someone into the first movie. Parallax is a little much to start this series off. Also, not a fan of Parallax's face.
But still super-hyped about the movie.

The Dark Knight Saga used Ra's al Ghul, probably the most powerful in terms of global influence and epic in scope of Batman's Rogues Gallery, and used him quite well in the first movie.
Yeah, Sinestro is what everyone thinks of when they think of Green Lantern arch enemy. Parallax is a threat worthy of introducing us to the GL mythos, but being such an immense foe you tend to lose the intimate "battle-of-wits" that the best enemies do. I really enjoy the idea of Sinestro starting as a friend and not just turn bad in the first movie. The events of Parallax will likely be his Start of Darkness, possibly being frustrated with the red-tape of the Elders.

I WANT I WANT I WANT.
Rawr! And I'm totally on board with the effects, I like how it looks unnatural ('cuz it is, being energy and all).
