In fact, lack of drive might be a big problem with Sonic plots in general. The characters really don't have much motivation beyond 'stop the bad guy', except for Knuckles and Rouge being finding and stealing jewels respectively. So with every game they have to come up with increasingly dumb reasons for the plot to happen.

Someone needs to like, steal Shadow's lunch or something so he gets angry with rage again. Then I might find him entertaining.

Heck, maybe they should just embrace Shadow's reputation. Have him listen to Linkin Park and go shopping at Hot Topic and awkwardly deal with legions of rabid fangirls.

By the end of the game you defeat Sonic because he laughs uncontrollably at the mere sight of you.

Do you guys think that a lrge majority of the Shadow hate comes him being shoehorned into the games? Shadow the Hedgehog (game) being the game that divided the fanbase due tot he fact that it was a severe divergence form te Sonic formula. Why Mario so successful and Sonic just plain fail? While Mario explored other gameplay styles, it didn't stray to far from the formula and the core concepts of the seires. Sonic Adventure itself was departure from traditional Sonic fare consider the nature of the game but it didn't stray too far from the core concepts of the series that is running fast while providng decent platforming.

Why was it easier for Zero of Mega Man X to go darker and edgier? While the Zero series was somewhat darker than the classic series, it wasn't all that dark and it didn't take itself too seriously. Shadow the Hedgehog tried too hard to dark and it ended up working against it. Shadow was already anti Sonic but he was shoehorned into every game while Sega provided new characters for new fans to go gaga over. Mario did cater to new fans but it didn't forget the hardcore audience that brought it there.

Shadow the Hedgehog and Zero are just generic badasses whith almost no personality but they get loads and loads of fans anyway.

Tell that to the fans of Mario Kart. They will laugh at you.

What I hate about post SA 2:B Shadow is that he decides to leave his past behind him! WHAT THE HELL? Your past embodies your character, Shadow! Maria drove you, you fought for her, sure, he was angsty, but it's better than just doing things for the sake of doing it!

Heck, the only characters I can think of with a real motivation are Knuckles and Rouge, whose motivations put them directly in conflict.

And for some reason it makes me think those two are an allegory for the alienation of modern Western society. Both have an obvious attraction but they cannot overcome their obsessions- Knuckles is a workaholic, slaving away at a job that cannot give him any real satisfaction, and Rouge is has a never-ending greed for useless baubles, letting their short-term, hollow satisfaction get in the way of a potentially fulfilling relationship.

...kill me.

Yeah, let's get back on topic. It's already stupid enough as it is; no need for this nonsense.

Shadow. Don't really mind his presence, wouldn't lose sleep if he got the axe. Any questions?

Who says he hasn't already? As far as I know, Shadow didn't appear at all in Unleashed, doesn't appear to be in Colors and almost definitely won't be in Sonic 4. I don't think he's appeared on any merchandise or advertising recently either.

Well, Shadow is in Sonic And The Black Knight, but otherwise, no he hasn't been in any mainstream Sonic games lately.

...sorry for the bump but I just had the hilarious mental image that now Shadow doesn't have any motivation, he's stopped fighting stuff and just sits around playing TF 2 all day.

He loves using the "You're not even good enough to be my fake" line when he kills Spies.

Great, now I want to see a Sonic themed TF 2 team. I can see it now.

  • Sonic=Scout
  • Tails=Engineer
  • Knuckles=Heavy (not inspired by Exterminatus Now I swear)
  • Eggman=Medic
  • Amy=Pyro (loves the Homewrecker)
  • Shadow=Soldier
  • Rouge=Spy
  • Nack=Sniper (duuh)

This image has been floating around internet message boards longer than you think.

It originated at deviantart, but it was a recent entry at Halolz, so it was faster to find it there.

Why I didn't think of Blaze as Pyro, I have no idea.

Or Big as Heavy. In hindsight that seems rather silly.

I would prefer Omega as the heavy, since that's exactly what he is already.

In my opinion, the game wasn't bad, though the character was quickly becoming The Wesley for a while after SA 2. I think they should bring back more attention to Tails and Knuckles myself, though I think Sega is finally figuring out that a new character for each game is annoying and they should do more with the characters they already have.

I have a weird OCD with pallete swaps, so I'd get annoyed if he ded or were removed from the series (didn't mind Silver though).

But I loathe the way he speaks.
