Rename: Crowners?

I wasn't particularly a fan of calling the site's polls "crowners" back when they were actually being used for Crowning Moments. The word meant nothing to me as a relative TRS newbie. (I almost, almost did a half-sarcastic thread to rename them once one time when I was annoyed at some long forgotten rename.) Now that "crowner" is officially an Artifact Title however, I thought I'd actually float the idea for real, at least to see whether it gets panned or not. I'd say just call them "polls" but we'd probably want something a little more light-hearted.

Why not just call it a poll?

"Poll" is fine by me.

Make a Crowner for Renaming "Crowner"?

I think the basic Poll sounds good it gets the point across and its not complected (like actually getting one attached is.)

I don't really see where the current name is enough of a problem to warrant changing it.

Though I would be supportive of changing "Single Prop Crowners" to "Thunderdomes", since two options enter, and one option leaves.

"Crowner" isn't descriptive of what it's about anymore. We should make a, uh, Splorg (temporary name) to decide what to call them now.

I vote for Splorg. grin

If not that, then Poll works.

Poll is the obvious choice. Crowner is an Artifact Title, but it seems that this is also a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Is the name causing any problems?

I can say that as a newbie I was confused as hell at what a "crowner" was and it took over a month before I figured it out.

^ and ^^: That's pretty much my contention. I'm all for being unique in trope titles but it's not such good practice for administrative stuff and general website usability. (Blame partly that I checked out a book on website usability this week, like so.)

Yeah, "Crowner" isn't very descriptive of what it's supposed to be (a poll).

So set up a poll Crowner for it. grin

It took me some time to learn what a "crowner" was, myself.

Hmm...trying to start an Alternative Titles poll crowner, but when I click "Yes, do it!" nothing happens. I guess the wiki can't handle the sheer irony involved! [lol]

...or it's a Firefox 4.0 issue. But still!

EDIT: Looking at the source, the Yes/No <form> is wrapped in a <div>, but the <div> is missing a closing bracket. That's probably why the form doesn't work.

Okay, it's been roughly a week now, looks pretty clear we want "poll" to be the new name. Are we ready to close this and put it through?

Now that The Situation is largely dealt with, we can go ahead with this change, right?
