Well, it did receive a crapton of hype with it marking the ending of the anime. Though I don't think the anime is gonna stay dead, as apparently the movie did really well. I agree with you that this doesn't really feel like it marks the end of Gintama in any way. The only thing that made it feel like that is that they played the first opening, Pray, during the credits.
Story-wise it also doesn't measure entirely up to my favorite serious Gintama arcs, but it's pretty good in its own right. I certainly enjoyed it though. I just feel like we didn't spend near enough the time we should have with the Bad Future characters. Seeing their future designs reversed when they go to the past felt like meh.

Yeah, though I don't think any ideas he had for the manga's ending went into it. Otherwise we'd have the current timeline Takasugi involved.
Still no news about the anime, but as the movie did as well as it did, we should probably be expecting a new season at one point. Maybe not next year, but maybe the year after.
Chapter 476 is now out and the "Freaky Friday" Flip arc concludes with everybody except Gintoki and Hijikata turned into poop, which will likely not be acknowledged in the following chapter.
No visible or lasting Character Development happening in an arc like this is kinda the norm for Gintama. I'm not sure if Dozaemon represented his repressed feelings, as it seems anything like that was abandoned in favor of Undying Loyalty to Tae. Which weirds me out considerably. I guess it might be because Dozaemon doesn't remember he's one half of Gin's soul, while Tae comes along and saving him makes her essentially Dozaemon's Otose.

Maybe feelings was the wrong word. Memories perhaps? It looked like Dozaemon was stuck in Gin's wartime phase, So I was thinking we'd get some more backstory on that part of Gin's life. Dozaemon could have become Shiro Yasha(?) and Gin would have literally been fighting the demons of his past, but that's starting to get too serious for this series. The ending was classic Gintama though.
Technically, three posts in a row, but since this thread is barely posted in anyway, might as well.
A new Gintama anime has apparently been announced to start up in April 2015.
About freakin' time. Looking forward to seeing all the so-far manga-only chapters animated
If you haven't heard, Crunchyroll will be simulcasting the new season tomorrow April 8.
Also, judging from the trailers we've had so far, the first episode will probably be the Time Stop arc, as it's the only thing that's been in the trailers. This means they're probably jumping all around with the order of the chapters, something they've done in previous seasons too. Those that can be jumped around with anyway.

And if you guys where wondering what was up with the scene in the cold opening of the first episode, meet Ryutaro Nonomura the Crying Japanese Politician.
The first part where Gintoki made a public apology was anime original, but the rest of the episode was from the manga. I was wondering how they'd pull this short arc off since it has a lot of speech bubble gags and sound effects. They seem to have handled the way characters talk pretty well, instead of freezing people with speech bubbles they just play a short scene, then freeze. The next episode should have a pretty important sound effect gag though, so it'll be interesting to see how they pull it off.
Truth be told I only expected this arc to last one episode, but they're stretching it out to two episodes
I'm guessing the Yamazaki and Tama chapters will be adapted after that, since they were skipped last season.

Well, looks like Why Not beat UTW.
I think the movie has a good blend of comedy and drama but the beginning was a bit slow, and the second half was a bit confusing.
The ending was a bit of a letdown honestly. People talked up how it felt like the "Final Chapter" but it seems to me it's better to think of it as a separate story or an alternate timeline which protected the current one.
The ending itself was one of the shounen-ey ones I don't like because they seem to carry the promise of something great then the end right after the fighting.
It's worth watching for the comedy, nostalgia and the very nicely animated fight scenes but I think this movie would barely be in my top 20 Gintama stories.
