"I could eat a knob at night" - Karl PilkingtonI can't stand their vocals. Nice instrumentals, though.
What's the frequency Kenneth?|In case of war.Only if the non-metal in question is definitely not metal. Regarding nu metal, metalcore, deathcore, whateverthefuckcore, Your Mileage May Vary as to whether it's metal or not - therefore, it's allowed to be discussed here.
Discussing emo bands here would be a bad idea, though.
last.fm | RYMX Rot N Roll X: Is it me, or do you show up whenever I mention emo bands? Either way, yeah, you've got a point.
You know what else is "simplistic radio-rock"? Led Zeppelin.
No, really. I've heard Led Zeppelin played on the radio a lot more than Disturbed (since 2000; I'm fully aware that LZ have been around, and therefore have more radio play than, Disturbed).
It doesn't matter if something is played on the radio or simplistic; if it's metal, or arguably metal, then it can be talked about here. I'm sure X Rot N Roll X will back me up on that, being the resident rock genre expert.
last.fm | RYMBest definition of nu metal I've ever heard. That should be on The Other Wiki.
On the subject of nu metal, personally I'm not a fan of the genre either. Too many absolute shit bands. However, there were some IMO good bands from the movement, such as Korn, Disturbed, Slipknot, and System of a Down. Evanescence and Deftones I'll mention, too, because although they're not nu metal, they're often considered to be, and I like those two bands. Everything else nu metal I can pretty much do without, though I've got a love-hate relationship with Linkin Park.
On the subject of other genres of metal, I like most other genres, although I don't like hair metal, and I generally ignore black metal because the musicians take themselves way too seriously. I'm also not too fussed on grindcore (yes, it's metal, it can be talked about, Napalm Death being the notable exception. I especially like Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Gothic Metal, and most Thrash Metal (don't get me wrong, I like thrash a lot, but a lot of the bands are pretty samey for me).
Favourite metal bands? (without negative feedback about what's metal and what's not) I'd have to say Death, Tool, Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Nightwish, Opeth, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Anthrax, Arch Enemy, Faith No More, Judas Priest and Lamb Of God. I also love Nirvana, Radiohead, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, but they're not metal, so...
last.fm | RYM@ Lordnecronus - You don't think Alice in Chains are metal? The hell, I always considered them a metal band.
Anyway, here's a list of most of the metal bands I like. Guaranteed some choices are going to be disputed in this topic, but fuck ya. You have your opinions and I have mine.
- Alice in Chains
- Anthrax
- Arch Enemy
- Avenged Sevenfold
- Black Sabbath
- Bullet for My Valentine
- Celldweller
- Children of Bodom
- Deftones
- Dir en grey
- Disturbed
- Dream Theater
- Evanescence
- In Flames
- In This Moment
- Iron Maiden
- Judas Priest
- Killswitch Engage
- Korn
- Lacuna Coil
- Linkin Park (Yes, they're here solely to piss off "metalheads".)
- Luna Sea
- Megadeth
- Metallica
- Nightwish
- Nine Inch Nails
- Pantera
- Rage Against the Machine
- Rammstein
- Sepultura
- Slipknot (Again, to piss you off.)
- Within Temptation
- X Japan
As you can probably guess, I have a few problems with "metalheads" and don't consider myself one despite my playlist.

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt." - Some guy with a snazzy hat.Alice In Chains, of which we have an article, is metal/grunge, different people associate it more with either genre.
