Bat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf. From the piano riff to the Crash solo, this song just defines "epic".

I was just listing some, I'm not saying it doesn't count, haha. Really, anything that has been put out by Muse is epic.

The one-two punch of "Three Days"/"Then She Did..." by Jane's Addiction is pretty sweet.

Keeper of the Seven Keys by Helloween. Best song ever, in my opinion.

Well, I have a few. Chiefly... erm, Led Zep's "When the Levee Breaks", Stone Roses' "Breaking Into Heaven", Oasis' "Champagne Supernova" and "D'Yer Know What I Mean?" (overblown? Yeah. Awesome? Yeah).

And that's all I can think of now, sadly.

Probably should get working on that essay now...

I don't know if it counts, but "Stem/Long Stem" by DJ Shadow is pretty epic.

Classic: "Close to the Edge" by Yes. That bit where the pipe organ leads into the synth solo then the whole band comes back in? Goose bump city!

Within the past five years: "Salvo" by Moth Vellum. Great, underrated album!

"Defying Gravity" and "The Cell Block Tango" when it concerns theatre.

"Don't Stop Believein'" in regards to general music. Seriously, I put it on when I'm having a bad day and it instantly puts me in a good mood!

Metal Epic: Dream Theater, "Pull Me Under"

Industrial Epic: Deathline Int'l, "Paradise City" or In Extremo, "Horizont"

Classic Rock Epic: Cream, "White Room"

Soundtrack Epic: The Rock, "Hummel Gets the Rockets" (A guy I know who was Special Forces in the 1990 Iraq war actually cried at the opening scene)

Goth Epic: Sisters of Mercy, "Temple of Love (1992 version)"

And of course the standbys: Stairway and Kashmir by Zep, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen (it straddles - nay, tapdances- the line between epic and goofy in a way no one else can ever do).

And for sheer so-cheesy-its-epic, Europe, "The Final Countdown" and Erasure, "Always"

If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~

I'll just list some of my favorites, though I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Libera Me from Hell from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Passion by Utada Hikaru

Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

Baba O'Riley by The Who

Knights of Cydonia by Muse

Take a Bow by Muse

Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap

Symphony No. 41 (Jupiter), 4th Movement by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach

Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D Minor for Solo Violin by Johann Sebastian Bach

Alright, so it's a bit more than a few... and I still feel like I'm missing stuff. The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, more Muse, the Beatles, Sheryl Crow, it's just too much.

  • Sonic Youth - "The Diamond Sea"
  • Boris - "Just Abandoned Myself"
  • Mogwai - "Mogwai Fear Satan"
  • Titus Andronicus - "The Battle of Hampton Roads"
  • Panda Bear - "Bros"
