Getting more into trading card game GBC. I’ve found that it helps to focus on two types in a deck at a time, one of them being the type that’s super effective against whatever club you’re up against and the other being fighting. The first type I usually change out, but I found it always helps to keep fighting types like Hitmonchan in there. Pokémon like that usually don’t demand a lot of specific energy cards to begin with, which is helpful.
There's a reason Hitmonchan was core to the best deck back in the day.
Excepting Mewtwo Mulligan, which was more just cheap cheese that exploited poorly formed rules.
My musician pagethe original game is great fun already, but the Japan-only sequel is even better.
it introduced a ton more cards, including the sets that started allowing more varied and interesting strategies. and there's SO much content in that game- its literally twice the size of the original
i recommend everyone who liked the original to download a translation patch to play the second. it even introduced a female playable character instead of just the default male!
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaePity that they shut down the good app where the modern TCG can be played and replaced it with a buggy mess that has no single player.
(Strictly speaking, there's a deck test mode against the AI, but the AI is so bad, as in, will deck itself out as fast as it can, that it's useless except as a way to test the odds of getting a workable starting hand)
My musician pageHey I like TCG Live. I only just got into it but it's super fun and I'm excited for tomorrow starting a new rewards path. I don't know what features it lost transitioning from TCG Online but the version I've played isn't that buggy.

Ah, I see you missed the months of "removing any of these numerous meta Pokémon from the field crashes the game".
It also lost about half the expanded legal cards in the game's history when they moved from TCGO to TCGL.

My musician pageI also at first didn't realize that the little star symbols were meant to be colorless, as in any energy card can be used on it. Once I realized that, it was smoother sailing for me.
It helped that Pokemon like Rhydon were rather generous with colorless energy, which is a a relief from Pokemon like Dugtrio which required 4 fighting energy cards in order to use Earthquake.
Which starting Deck did you go with? I chose the Squirtle deck, but might try the Bulbasaur deck on another profile to see if I like that one better. Not a big fan of the Charmander deck, as the Fire-type gimmick of "Discard 1 Energy to use this attack" sounds rough.
I don't know if anyone here has much interest in TAS speedruns, but several years ago, there was this really cool Blue/Red Pokedex Completion TAS. I love this thing... the detailed explanations and just fun-to-watch strategies and routing
The main reason I bring it up, though, is because I recently stumbled upon a NEW TAS, not by the same person but admitted to be inspired by the first one, of Pokemon Crystal/Silver/Yellow Pokedex Completion (To complete Gen 2's Pokedex, you need a Gen 1 game, so three games it is). Sometimes, the Youtube algorithim DOES bless your feed with good finds, lol.
Of course, these are very long watches. But if you ever want to kill some time with classic Pokemon and are interested in this sort of thing, I think they're worth it. Besides, not like you have to watch either of them all in one sitting.

I went with Blastoise. I’m well acquainted with how powerful it can be to attach an infinite amount of energy in a turn.
My musician pageThe in-universe ethics of piracy question makes me wonder about if we'll ever see an Evil Team of "breeders" who clone and alter Pokemon for the stats.
The sad, REAL American dichotomy![]()
The Fire cards seem to have more base Pokemon with decent starting power, like Ponyta and Magmar. Grass at their base form seem at their most decent with ones like Scyther and Pinsir.
I also like how the Eevee family don't need specific energy cards and can use any cards for moves.

x6: If you have an interest in speedruns, I recommend Scott's Thoughts. Pretty rough early on, but his recent videos have excellent production values for Youtube: he also backports some pokemon to see how they would do in earlier Gens, and has hosted some speedrunning competitions.

I remember really liking to build electric decks in the gbc TCG. Spearow/Fearow + Farfetch'd as colorless backup should you run into a ton of fighting mons. I liked how you can nickname your decks (TCG Live has that feature too.) The main deck I used in gbc was called Eclectic Electric (because I was 13 and had just heard the word 'eclectic' and thought it sounded cool.)
Honestly I love rediscovering the card game and seeing how varied it's become. Except when it's vs lost box. I can't stand lost box. I'm Ultra Glitter Cat (no spaces) on TCG Live if anyone wants to friend me.

see my completed Tangled (Varian) fanfic collection! https://archiveofourown.org/works/24467056/chapters/59049532Even after getting like five medals, I still feel limited on energy cards, which is why I wish the booster packs had some more.
It’s why I make up for this by including as many card drawing/energy searching cards as possible, like Professor Oak or Energy Retrieval cards.

It's been a while since I played the TCG game (bought it on the 3DS virtual console), but I remember using absolute scrub tactics. Like, moves or abilities that damage benched mons for a little bit each turn, then Gengar or whatever it was with the ability to move around your opponent's damage counters to pile it all on one mon and knock them out. Good times.
@Ookamikun Have you tried Hearthstone? That's a digital TCG not based on any pre existing physical TCG. It's got features like discover (choose one of three cards) or random spells that can't be duplicated in a physical game. I used to play Hearthstone heavily but I'm just not as into it anymore, they've monetized things too much. (Used to be there were only a couple of new 'hero skins' released each year so you could afford them if you wanted. Now it seems there's at least one new skin every month.)

Now this got me curious as to how it'd be handled in-universe… ;-;"
"Can you even read the blackboard written clear as can be?" / "Can you even read his mind? See that kid's lost fantasy?"Anyway, aside from Looker and that purple-haired lady, do we know of anyone else in the International Police?
I'd kinda like to see a spin-off focusing on them, in some way.
