I think the Safari Zone would be more tolerable if it had deeper mechanics but Rock and Bait just aren't enough by themselves. At bare minimum, the Pokemon shouldn't have a chance to run away if you haven't even thrown a single rock yet.
I mean, change in gambling laws, and especially gambling minigames in products aimed at children. Is a very reasonable reason why they have subsequently removed the Game Corner. I mean, the European PEGI ratings has recently made it so any game featuring gambling minigames and elements is to be rated 18+. And I don't think Gamefreak and TPC want to have to label their games as 18+ in Europe just to have the Game Corner in subsequent games.
The Game Corner wasn't just a feature they arbitrarily removed like the Safari Zone.
I'm having to learn to pay the priceAgain though, they could've just remodeled it into a kid-friendly arcade, with minigames that aren't reminiscent of gambling.
"Be the change you want to see in the world." My bf and I being the change: www.twitch.tv/lilyandfloatzel https://discord.gg/z7PmdTksVjHuh. With all the changes in the linked video, I think all BDSP needed to be more justified was:
- The Platinum Dex
- The Battle Frontier
- The full Pokedex in the postgame
Maybe the latter 1 or 2 can be patched in over time as DLC? Who knows.
x3
I, and many others, have literally pointed out how they could've kept the Game Corner in without stepping into legal issues. So, no, the EU's laws aren't a good reason to remove the Game Corner.
I'm not averse to the Safari Zone having some kind of unique gameplay, but it should preferably be less bullshit than how it used to be with throwing bait/rocks and praying they don't just run away.
To me, at least, because it takes much longer to get the results, and there's not much depth at all to it. In a regular encounter, if you're prepared, you'll see the Pokémon and catch it in a couple of minutes tops unless it's got a super low catch rate. In the Safari Zone, the good Mons will take a long time to show up, which isn't that different, but then they can flee, meaning you'd have to go a long time to find another one, you can't improve the catch chance very much without greatly increasing the chance they'll flee, possibly before you even get a chance to try the increased catch rate, and if searching takes too long you have to walk back from the entrance again, which is just padding.
Personally, I catch most things with Quick Balls anyway, which for most mons completely removes RNG and for most of the rest, still has a good chance of having really good odds as if RNG was bypassed.

SoundCloudThe BIG difference between Safari Zone and regular catches is that regular mons don't randomly run away with an utterly low chance of the dumb cubes somehow preventing them from fleeing (which works about 5% of the time as intended and only on Pokemon that are neither rare or valuable) and that you have many means of preventing Wild Mons from fleeing (Arena Trap, Mean Look, Shadow Tag, Block, Taunt for Roar, etc.). In Safari Zone you have a completely unreliable method to prevent fleeing and due to the absolutely random and low chance encounters you're unlikely to get the Mons you want without grinding endlessly or using save slates cheats.
This feels like trying to justify a crappy mechanic because of nostalgia rather than trying to find legitimate arguments as to why a mechanic that fucks you over for daring to play the game should be kept
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."Mood, I really loved having them even though I had to stop collecting them because bookstores didn't have them in supply and shipping made online shopping too impractical.
Maybe, but the conversation was specifically talking about VGC though.
Where there's life, there's hope.Hori announces Legends: Arceus themed Split Pad Pro, Vault Case, and Adventure Pack.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Looks cool, I actually might get it. I've been thinking about getting a split pad pro anyway as it hurts to play certain games (especially the N64 games) for an extended amount of time with the normal Joy-cons. Unfortunately the cases look pretty useless, so I'd have to see how much the whole thing costs.

I was looking them up online today to see pictures of the ones I didn't own, and from what I can tell they aren't too expensive to buy second hand now. It's mainly the shipping that's the killer.
It took me a while to find my old copies today, since they were stored in an out of the way box
Of the ones I owned, I think for sure my favorites have to be the Mystery Dungeon guidebooks for Red/Blue and Time/Darkness. Unlike the main series games, they contained both the main story and post game all in one book.
I honestly think I wouldn't have enjoyed those games anywhere near as much if I didn't own those two books. Especially with how the post game content could be a little unclear on the unlock order for certain dungeons.
Aside from that, the covers and artwork were gorgeous, and I loved the texture on the covers of those books.
I used to use them a lot, since back then while I had internet access, it was much more limited than nowadays with it only working on the one super old computer. So being able to reference them was incredibly useful.
In fact, when we first got a laptop and other ways to access the internet at home aligns pretty closely to when I stopped purchasing them.
What was the name of the crossdressing Unova guy who worked at a flower shop?

"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”It's just generically Flower Shop if you're talking about Join Avenue.
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy.New generations episode is up, this one is all about Barry and his journey and growth to beat his true rival....his father, Palmer, the battle tycoon!
Wow, they actually remember Lucas exists at all. There's one Throw the Dog a Bone moment for him.
Seriously, when was the last time Lucas appeared in any tie-in media or spin-off game in the last several years?

I still remember Diamond from the Manga.
And he was still badly overshadowed by Platinum.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I really thought we'd get Lucas and Chimchar in Pokémon Masters to tie in to the launch of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, since Barry's been there since launch and Dawn's been able to get an alt. Nope, still nowhere to be seen. Makes his appearance here all the more surprising.
SoundCloudUsing the female companions in the Anime really just sealed the fate for all of the male protagonists huh.

The Youtube algorithm has been throwing these short 30 second videos about the remakes at me for the past few days. And while checking out the uploaders channel, I noticed they just put out a video about the old Prima guides.
I feel pretty nostalgic for those old thick guidebooks. Most of them I own because here in Australia they'd often bundle them as either pre order bonuses or deals where you got them cheap when you bought the game at the same time. I also did notice going into Gen 5/6 they did get thinner with less content.
I own about 70% of the ones shown in that video, some in about the same old and beaten condition. Although most of mine are from Gen 4, with a couple of Gen 3 ones. I think the only Gen 5 one I have is the Black & White one, the base game not the Pokedex one.
I always did think it was a bit sneaky them bundling the post game content into the second Pokedex book.
