I Wonder Trade so often that I release what I consider garbage so that people don't get these back. Among the ones I release, I usually get rid of"
- Early game trash, unless they're good (Yungoos/Gumshoos, Pikipek, Keen Eye Wingull/Pelipper, Rattata/Raticate, Caterpie/Metapod, Ledyba/Ledian, Spinarak/Ariados, Meowth, Crabrawler/Crabominable)
- Pokemon I see so commonly that I get sick of the sight of them (Lillipup, Mudbray, Makuhita, Abra, Drowzee/Hypno)
- Objectively terrible Pokemon (Delibird, Corsola, Phione, Magikarp, Unown, Finneon/Lumineon, etc.)
- Anything below 3IV or "Relatively Superior Potential"
Exceptions are made if the Pokemon is shiny or if bred to have egg moves and/or in rare Pokeballs (or stuff like Luxury, Dusk, or Premier, the kind that people like putting on Pokemon).

That's not the case at all though? There's a maximum limit of how many Pokemon you can carry at a time but no minimum limit so playing with one overpowered mon is just as valid a strategy as playing with a full team of six or any number between one and six. Making it easier to focus on one mon if you desire to is in no way failing to do a thing they set out to do. So, again, it is not bad game design.

There tends to be at least one NPC per game who tells you not to use one Pokemon because it will lose if it ever goes up against a major Type weakness. Power-levelling just your starter is a gameplay strategy that Game Freak does discourage. Even more so, now that they've made EXP Share into a universal mechanic, it's near-impossible to do so.
I really frigging hate that the games hold your hand more and more with each generation. It was bad enough for me in gen 5 when they pretty much force you to take an elemental monkey to face the first gym. Then gen 6, which I love, made the EXP share givr all Pokémon experience without any deduction, but at least you could turn it off, but then they just hand over a second starter and a Mega Lucario. Gen VII had the side characters heal your team and give you revives pretty much every other route, Let's Go outright forade you from taking on a gym without meeting a requirement such as having a Super Effective Pokémon or having your team at a certain level, and now they're forcing you to use the EXP share? Gamefreak, let the veterans have a frigging challenge!

RIP KissAnime.I'm fine with analysis and constructive criticism of my ideas.
When someone pointed out the limited use of type re-balancing, I adjusted accordingly.
I'm not fine with the ridiculous hyperbole of suggesting a single ability change that only affects some statistics would fundamentally break core gameplay, including in competitive (where it isn't a factor), and in-story (where it's not even something that could be forced upon you). Not with attitudes that directly invoke certain facets of "Stop Having Fun" Guys, such as "completely intolerant of play styles other than his own", and "the "Stop Having Fun" Guy believes that this is the only right way to play the game."
You don't want an Unown on your team? Then don't have one. You want one? Then use one. You want 5 Unknown backing up a Sunkern? Go for it. You want a team of 6 level 100 pokemon in current games with perfect I Vs and E Vs and complementary natures and held items? Go for it, preferably without calling others "sub-optimal". No one's stopping you.
IIRC the Elemental Monkey was encouraged, but not mandatory. But I was disappointed when I found out that getting a mega or Z move was required to progress with the story. I'd like my team composition to be up to me. Hell, I don't even like most of the starter options. I do keep them on my team, though, because it would feel like a betrayal not to.
...on an unrelated note, it bugs me that you can't choose your starter's gender.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyThat's probably because female starters are vastly more desirable.
Continue writing our story of peace.I don't bother with Wonder Trade. I don't have any use for a mass surplus of Wurmples, Rattatas, and Pikipeks.
The only things I'd need to trade for are certain rare Hidden Ability Pokemon, which you're probably not going to get via Wonder Trade.
I still don't understand the 87.5/12.5% gender ratio on starters myself. Ostensibly you could say the males are more common as a means of making breeding more difficult, but Ditto has existed for as long as breeding has (And been available in every game except Ruby and Sapphire) so it's a moot point.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Has anyone ever had trouble with a random wild Pokémon? Legendaries obviously don't count here. Besides the random Salemance I mentioned before, I remember back when I played Yellow so long ago, I was just wandering through Viridian Forest trying to catch a Weedle when I got attacked by a Pidgeotto, which was far more powerful than my entire team. It wiped out most of my team, refusing to let me escape and barely taking Scratch Damage whenever I attacked it. Finally, after being reduced to a single Pokémon, I barely managed to kill the thing. I felt so accomplished, as if I had just conquered That One Boss. I didn't even try to catch it, because I was just that determined to beat it.
RIP KissAnime.Sometimes, a Golbat in Gen 7 will turn out to be a real monster. Just because Golbat is so fast, has a great defensive typing, and SOS chain can bring in a unlimited army of Golbats if you're unable to one-shot them. I remember losing a good half of my team to one such encounter that just kept going on and on.
Oof, thanks for telling me.
As for random wild Pokemon that gave me trouble, I remember a random Boldore in White that just couldn't die for whatever reason, so I ended up catching it.
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*I really don't get why people are making such a big deal about some of the Galarian forms, like Farfetch'd and Ponyta, being version-exclusives. In the first three generations, yeah, if you didn't have a friend to trade with, you were screwed, but ever since gen 4 introduced the GTS, it's incredibly easy to connect online via wifi and trade for the the Pokémon you want. It is legitimately annoying that Let's Go had no GTS, but if they're bringing it back for gen 8, why are people so upset?

GF is doing so preemptively; they've mentioned in interviews that they're making changes for accessibility, like implying they added a way to alter Natures.
I doubt they want their online scene to be DOA because the current breeding and Nature/IV systems are ridiculously time-consuming to work around without access to hacking. The existence of Showdown could also eat into their userbase.
This is assuming the change aren't half-assed like the bottle caps thing in Gen VII.

I honestly don't get how they're able to do that. I've tried, and the game will not let me choose a gender if the species has either a set gender or no gender at all.
RIP KissAnime.
