Oh wow, I feel so dumb. Earlier, I had to fight Totem Lurantis. The only Pokémon I had that could stand a chance were Braixen and Salandit. Problem is, Salandit only had Ember, while Braixen only had Ember and Fire Wheel. I knew Flamethrower wouldn't be available until much later, so I had no choice to fight the thing with incredibly weak fire moves. Even Inferno Overdrive with Comfey's Sunny Day wasn't evough to OHKO the thing. Tl;dr, Lurantis kept healing itself until Synthesis ran out of PP, after which I finally killed it and finished off Comfey. Then I just remembered that, as a starter, I could have taken Braixen to the mall and taught her Fire Pledge, which is significantly more powerful than Ember. I'm such an idiot...

The effects themselves would probably look nicer since we're not stuck with lower-resolution sprites, sure, but actually placing those effects in a 3D space seems like it'd be harder to do without looking "off." If Seals did make a return, they'd probably be a bit more limited as far as customization goes. Or they'd have the player put the effects on a sphere instead of a circle or something. Y'know what, that could actually work...
Well, that move tutor is pretty easy to forget about. Congrats on getting through the trial, though!
Found a Friend Safari that had Frogadier, so I was able to get a female with Protean in X. Then I used Island Scan in Ultra Sun and caught a male Greninja in a Moon Ball. Once I evolve the former, I can pass the latter's Poke Ball down. Six Apriballs used, eight to go.
Actually, isn't Friendship partially influenced by your character losing a lot? Maybe the opinion of a Pokemon with 0 Friendship could just be "yeah, he sucks as a fighter, I lose all the time and I have no belief whatsoever in his tactical combat skills, but he seems like a good guy when we're just hanging out".
In Japanese Affection is actually Friendliness (nakayoshi-do), and the name for Friendship actually means something more like Familiarity or sometimes Loyalty (natsuki-do).
So going off that high Affection (friendliness) but low Friendship (loyalty) would presumably be that the Pokemon is friendly, but doesn't know its trainer well and isn't well trained to follow commands. And high Friendship (loyalty) but low Affection (friendliness) would presumably be that the Pokemon is familiar with and loyal to its trainer, but isn't very friendly in a playing games kind of way.

The Digimon games that are more monster raising simulator than story-focused JRPG tend to have similar statistics to those that are localized closer to what Kuro said, but they're also (typically) opposed to one another. Raise loyalty and you make them less friendly, and vice versa.
I always wondered if Pokemon could do something similar and give different benefits for focusing on one or the other.

So essentially it's just more of how it was translated here which is why it seems so interchangeable? I can't say I don't understand considering that the translations for the gen 1/2 were pretty wonky at best. I'd say it wasn't until the next gen, the translation become a bit better. My favorite term coming beforehand has to be the "X is confused no more!" status update. Just the way how it's presented gets a nice chuckle out of me.
However, I guess as a carry over it does suffer from being a bit confusing. Because a pokemon liking you a certain way isn't really elaborated. It's just more of the game saying, this pokemon is "really happy with you" or "X wants to play more". It's pretty vague in those terms I guess.
I think one of my wilder shiny stories was when I hatched 3 shiny Gible in 3 days. I made the first one a Gabite, since it has the prettiest looking shiny of that line (it's a really pretty blue), the 2nd remained a Gible, and to round things off, the last one was a Garchomp.
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*In Ultra Moon I was on my way out of Verdant Cavern after the first trial on day one and ran into a shiny Diglett. The only thing stopping me from putting it on my team was that its typing shared too many weaknesses with my Litten and Rockruff.
So hit 'em with a whole tidal wave ~ We're killing it the entire wayHow about a shiny failure story? Because one just happened to me half an hour ago. I ran into a shiny Goomy just outside Po Town on Ultra Sun. Problem was that I didn't teach any of my Pokémon False Swipe because I wasn't hunting at the time, I was grinding. I did my best to deal minimal damage, but my freaking Zoroark landed a crit...
Somebody shoot me.
RIP KissAnime.I once found a shiny Shinx in one of the Sinnoh games (can't remember if it was Diamond or Platinum), and then accidentally knocked out Cresselia shortly afterwards. I rebooted the game to undo the KO, only to find out the hard way I didn't save after catching the Shinx.
Another one that's slightly less of a fail: My first shiny ever was a Gastrodon, which barely looks any different from a normal one. I only caught it because I didn't have one yet. I didn't even know what a shiny was at the time, and wondered why it had a sparkly effect whenever it was sent out. I only realized it was a shiny in retrospect, long after I'd restarted the game at least once.

So hit 'em with a whole tidal wave ~ We're killing it the entire wayI haven't really had a good or bad luck with shinys other than not being able to find any.
The only one I got other than the one handed to you in gen 2 was a Golette in X. I really wanted to put it on my team (especially after I had a bit of fun with it in my Black playthrough), but I already had my team where I wanted it to be at the time.
I have made up my mind in any future games to attempt to put a shiny on my main team. Hopefully, I'll follow through if I ever manage to find another.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."

I never played around with seals as much as I should have and I tend to forget they existed.
I feel they could be pulled off pretty well with the current tech.
