Alright, confess odd things.

For example, I'm jealous to my big brother becuase he discovered The Smiths first. Dammit, now I can't have a crush for Morrisey without feeling weird about it.

It's not that surprising. There's a reasonably well-developed punk subscene based around Irish-American themes; the Dropkick Murphys are sort of the same deal, although they overlap with Oi!.

I will keep my soul in a place out of sight, Far off, where the pulse of it is not heard.

Not a huge punk fan, tbh, so that's not something I'd know.

Selected recordings from Spain's attic!

  • William De Geer - The Sound of Bells

-It's a bunch of recordings of bells, church bells, service bells, you name it. It's here.

  • ??? - Song of Creation, Parts 1 & 2

-the aforementioned flute solo. There's no artist info, and the name of the song is written in a sharpie on the label of the record.

  • The Riot Mobb - Let the Riots Begin

-The album that kicked off the local scene. Sounds alot like PE to the untrained ear.

  • Big Bertie - Bass Grooves

-This is a home recording, this guy takes the cake as the worst rapper of all time. Most of what he says doesn't even rhyme. Sample lyric!

A to the B to C to the D
E, F, H, I, J, K, L-M-N-O-P

from a song called "Rappin da Alfabet"

Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys are both pretty good bands, I think.

Dee and Pee do rhyme, kind of. It's assonance, you know.

Also, Big Bertie is 64 and fully admits that he was drunk when he decided to record the album.

Wicked: I know, I was hard pressed to find anything that did rhyme.

I prefer Flogging Molly to the Dropkick Murphys, although I haven't listened to either of them enough.

Kuiper (two pages ago): Let's just say that Repo The Genetic Opera made me feel like a frightened child, something that hasn't happened in a long time.

It still bothers me that The Agony Booth felt the need to do a full-length recap of Repo The Genetic Opera. It's a Rock Opera, people, the story is just an excuse for the visuals and the music. There is a reason most operas are sung in foreign languages, and have the story relayed, second-hand.

  • Six Million Candles - Place to Place

-A lovely avant garde piece a little over two hours long, it's got snippets of music from around the world.

  • Da Krakkhedzz - Rollin' Gangsta

-Really, the title says all you need to know about this. FTR, all five of this group are white.

  • Sky Serpent - From the Mouths of The Little Children

-I really truly wish SS were more popular, they are such a great band who recorded five albums in just over a year. Their music is a mix of a million different influences, but I can best describe them as Indie Pop as produced by DJ Shadow.

Also, this is utterly off-topic, but Lusta in your sig it says you are Pagan, are you Wiccan?

Nope. As I recall saying a while ago in this very topic, I only use the term "Pagan" as a cop-out way of summing up my beliefs and hopefully scare any devout Christians I happen to meet. Feel free to PM me if you want to ask me anything or whatever.

OIC.

No problem, I was just curious if I had finally found another Wiccan on the interwebz.

Do you want me to dig up more stuff? I have enough to do this for days.

Please do. Preferably anything funny you can find. As I said, reading your comments on Big Bertie ("Big Bertie is 64 and fully admits he was drunk when he recorded it") nearly had me on the floor in stitches.

I know Bertie personally, he's a cool guy. Says "word up!" a lot.

  • Face Full of Stitches - Suicide Note

-You know those needlessly emo kids that you knew in high school? This is what happens when you let them get ahold of recording equipment.

The lyrics aren't sung, they're screamed. Badly. The guitar is out of tune, the drummer doesn't seem to care about anything other than making as much noise as possible and the bassist....never plays anything. In fact, I only know they have one because it's written in the artist info.

Sample Lyric

Various places, a lot of them come from the "Local/Home" section and bargin bin in a record store called Soundcheck, as well as the nearby Feelsgood. Some of them (like the Bertie album) I obtained from the original artists themselves. One or two I stole (I'm a horrible person, I know.) The rest I picked up on my travels, again from the artists who recorded them. William DeGeer for example, I met in North Dakota.

Here we go.

  • Ingrid - Das Komlasalz

-If you're wondering what the title means, it doesn't mean anything. This entire album by Doom Metal band Ingrid is recorded in faux German. Why? Because it sounds scary, except not, because inserting random Robot Chicken clips into your songs kills the mood.

Also, the lead singer is credited as "Max Testosterone".
