I don't actually know the character, I just think the term Mary Sue gets thrown around way too often.
Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffIt is. And frankly I don't care, even if she was I'd still like the anime.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.Don't get me wrong, I love GITS:SAC. A lot. I just think the Major is a little too competent. Be honest, don't you think that sentence made her sound really sue-ish?
I don't think she's a real Mary Sue, but I did get annoyed at times seeing how she's always impeccable and an ace in everything.
And believe me, I don't like throwing around the term Mary Sue, considering I posted this
once.
I agree, her hyper-competence is a little overexaggerated, to put it mildly. But within the constraints of the story, it isn't so disruptive.
In Second Gig [[spoiler: I had the theory that, due to her difficult early life, learning a new body and the psychological effect that must have had on her, she (like Kuze) was something of The Übermensch. Kuze, being endowed with the kind of charisma to generate Stadalone-Complex behaviour even in non-augmented humans, drew people to him magnetically. The Major was demonstrated to do the exact same thing.
It's all fanwank, mind you. But hey, that what's we're here for.
As for the the infalmatory comment regarding masculine gender identity - so sorry! I'll check my privilege in future.

an heroic gesture would do the world goodConsidering how Lawful Neutral the Major is, I wouldn't say she's an Ubermensch because she hates self-righteousness. She even calls her teammates out on it, not to mention her enemies.
Kuze however, is very much an Ubermensch. I guess, considering they compared him to "a dictator with an ideology akin to Gandhi and Martin Luther King".
Regarding the second half of your post.. I notice that this is how I feel about a lot of female characters I have PSL for and I have submissive tendencies for some of them. I've already once said I like strong characters / dislike weak characters.
And I don't care if anyone says only males can be GAR. There's no absolute definition of GAR anyway, it is now used for absolutely everything. I love female GAR.
Also, I just rewatched Saito's episode of 2nd Gig. Fuck yeah. This was an example where I got annoyed by the Major's competence, since she basically "out-snipered the top-Sniper". Watching it now, it didn't really bug me.

Agreed. Ultimately, she isn't one - she finds grand utopian schemes a far too implausible. But I'd felt that, at the later parts of the show, she would be presented with the reveal that she harboured some kind of sway over her subordinates in a way similar to dear ol' Kuze, which resulted in a Section 9's ability to function so cohesively - she created an involuntary Standalone Complex around her.
It's Shirou masamune, 2deep4u

an heroic gesture would do the world goodOk, ok, I know I shouldn't like the show it's shallow and girly and conventional blah blah blah, but I think I'm in love with Steve from Sex And The City. He's what self-proclaimed "nice guys" think they are, a genuinely sweet, adorable guy you can't help falling for.
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake! So, I have PSL for Mion from Higurashino Naku Koro Ni. Not Shion, just Mion. She's gorgeous, but doesn't flaunt it. Not only that, though she is responsible as the head of her family, she is also the leader of their little school club, where they play games most of us haven't played since grade school. Though she acts boyish, she has a girlier side deep down.
Also, she'll torture/kill you if you don't treat her properly/consider her. That always adds excitement to a relationship.
Ecstasy is Sustained IntensityI'm getting PSL for Hanaori Kotoha. She's cute!

INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.Hartman Hips or what, man! Plus, that suit is sex-tastic and she's so endearingly awkward. I wanna taker her home with me!!!

an heroic gesture would do the world goodFear not, Fawriel. I shall liberate you with a stern blow, once I am finished clubbing myself.
The colours! The colours! It's like huffing nitrous oxide in the aforementioned Loli Rape Bunker.
Sweet moses, how in hell are you even aware of this game without hacking a Japanese ISP? I thought only Japanese people knew of such an MMO's existence.
an heroic gesture would do the world goodOh well that makes even more sense. Can't do a search without stumbling on one of them Korean MM Os.
What's the frequency Kenneth?|In case of war.I feel like such a fool, but... Spider Jerusalem. What the hell, self? He'd hate me! And that's if he gave me a second thought, which is unlikely. *smacks self in the head*

A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!

Those qualities do not automatically make her a Sue.
