I think the Zach plotline would have been better received if the writer's strike hadn't shortened the season by five or six episodes and caused them to bring it to a head without laying the proper groundwork.
But that's old news. What was up with the latest episode? Most of it was "amaaaazing," but the ending was just. What? It made no sense and I felt like it completely undermined the whole point of Angela's speech. Everything she said about girls needing to see women in science for role models is true — seeing Jane Goodall on tv as a girl changed my life — but then they put her in this stupid costume that...just what! It totally subverted their own point, and the moral ends up being "women in the sciences? ridiculous!"
I am disappoint.
Some of you look a little more Asian to me.Really if it wasn't for the giant Micky Mouse hands it wouldn't have been totally cringe worthy. Still awkward and silly, but not completely farcical.
Myself I've caught up on Bones since they run 2 or 3 episodes every night on TNT. I think they might have been a bit out of order, but still fun stuff.
Yeah I too hadn't even heard of the show until TNT started showing it like mad last year, and since then it has really grown I me.
I was also a little disappointed last weeks episode. Not only because the ending seemed goofy, but also because it seemed far too forced how Bones came to the conclusion to be on the science show after being so resistant to it throughout the episode. I'm still not entirely sure what epiphany lead her to the decision in the show.
Regarding the Zach storyline, I think it makes a little more sense after Zach admits to Sweets that he never actually "killed" anyone, just told the Master where to find a victim.

In response to the ^ spoiler: I found the whole "I didn't really kill anyone, I'm just so Hollywood Autistic that I don't draw a distinction between aiding and abetting a killer and actually killing someone" thing rather lame. It thought it was a prime example of an Author's Saving Throw to avoid tarnishing the character in the eyes of the fans, which I wasn't concerned about because I always (and will always) thought he was The Wesley.
But I'm one more "teach me to be a man" scene from shipping Booth and Sweets, so you can guess why I was glad to see Zach go.

Some of you look a little more Asian to me.Bones is on three other channels in addition to Fox now, and two of them are late to the game so they list every episode from Season 2 onward as new. The constant false hope and the need to rotate channels for several made-in-2010 episodes JUST IN CASE ONE IS ACTUALLY NEW kind of made me quit watching Bones.
As such, I have no idea what's happened plot-wise past Zach's arc.
Nice job, Executives. If you were trying to get MORE viewers, this is the wrong way to do it.
I just started season 5, everything seems to be business as usual (except no Zack).
Zack is now in an asylum. There are now about 4 or 5 interns coming in once per week/case and Bones is supposed to pick one of them, at some point, to replace Zack.
Angela and Hodgins: broke up, Angela started dating a lesbian she knew from college, they broke up, and Angela's father kidnapped Hodgins and tattoed Angela's face and "Angela Forever" on his arm. At some point in season 5 they're supposed to get back together.
Bones and Booth: still aren't together and Bones hasn't realized that A) Booth loves her and B) Booth (even without cold, hard evidence) is usually right about things.
Booth: was revealed to have a brain tumor at the end of season 4, it was removed at the end of the season
That's about all you've really missed as far as I've gotten...
Yeah, I heard about the whole "BOOTH HAS A BRAIN TUMOR OMG" on the internet, so that's not surprising.
Holy fuck, Angela and Hodgins broke up? This isn't too surprising because when I stopped watching, their relationship was sort of on the rocks. It's a logical conclusion. As is them getting back together soon (for the viewers) because I just KNOW half the viewers got pissed off and nearly Rage Quit. The Angela-dates-a-lesbian bit is kind of surprising, but I wouldn't expect her to be mopey and boring even after breaking up with Hodgins.

It's funny but just occasionally dipping into the show managed to keep me up with all of those things (especially because I find American tv loves to have long detailed explanations of everything you've ever felt in a conversation- especially Angela who will just say what has just happen and then tell Bones what emotion she should be feeling), except for Booth's late season 4 brain tumour. That was low impact on their lives.
Not really, they spent part of season 5 coming back to that from time to time, Booth even went to see Gordon Gordon about it.
But I'm still extremely suprised at how little they seemed to be affected by what happened to Zack, I mean The Gravedigger haunts Bones and Hodgins nightmares, but Zack they've completely forgotten about...
It is. The spinoff is called something like "Finder" or "the Finder." (The Locator? Something like that.) I remember that Saffron Burrows is in it...and, I believe, it's less of a spinoff and more like a mostly unrelated show that happens to exist in the same universe as Bones because they're created by the same guy.
Hmm still watching but...Brennan/Walter/Shawn Spencer Crossover? ;) and throw in Richard Castle to write about it?
And Denny Trejo as Bishop. Oh God.

"You can reply to this Message!"I was watching the reruns very happily and they just started the Gormoggoddoonndonon arc. But then I accidentally found out about Zack's turning a serial killer and it seriously made me stop watching Bones. I also think that such knowledge would make many near-crowning moments of heartwarming in the first season into funny anneurisms. For example, Brennan realizing she has "her people" after Booth points how she truly cared for Zack, and Mustache guy telling him to be his best man. I guess it was kind of set up correctly, but even Word of God admit it was a random, last minute decision. If they wanted a character to be a serial killer it would have worked better if they introduced it as a new character and had that objective since the beginning of the character's introduction, but oh well.

The Finder has been picked up...lets see what will come out of it.
"You can reply to this Message!"About this show... Ever since I realized the title of the pilot of the cartoon Avatar The Last Airbender fit Bones' Idiosyncratic Episode Naming structure, I've wanted someone to write a fanfic that fuses the two series (with Aang as the vic and the rest of the cast as suspects).
Is that wrong?

Well, the show is finally back on the air, but I'm not here to talk about the new season. I just started watching the show this year, thanks to Hulu putting up first-season episodes along with the current ones, and I finished season 3 today. After reading the comments about it, I'm kind of surprised that Zach's Face–Heel Turn was so poorly received, because I thought it was set up rather well.
To wit: Zach is easily manipulated in matters where he has no firsthand experience. His entire gimmick with never talking to Booth in season 1 is based on this. That makes him an easy target for Gormogon's paranoia about secret societies. His lack of empathy is near total, as seen...well, any number of times, but shrugging off Hodgins' invitation to be best man is the one that comes most easily to mind. He has a damned high opinion of himself, and being taken into the confidence of the self-proclaimed protector of humanity from evil secret societies would bolster that. And he dehumanizes the dead more than anyone except maybe Bones, which segues nicely into cannibalism.
Honestly, Booth getting shot in the chest and never needing anything more than a band-aid bugs me way more.
