... alright, Barkey, compelling argument, SF will also get that 15% discount.
But all Security Forces had better bring that beret with em as proof. Don't want no pilots trying to game the system. Unless they are A-10 pilots, then they get the discount.
Hell I might just make it a 15% discount for all military folk. That'd be easier.

Just how much of your living costs does the army directly support anyway? I mean, you get paid, but does the army provide you with food and stuff while on base for free or do you have to pay for stuff?
Obviously it would vary from nation to nation and I'd imagine it would vary even from service to service. Also, what proportion of the military is actually "front line soldiery" as opposed to logistics?
...dunno why all those questions suddenly occurred to me...

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.Modern western militaries are more "tail" (support) than "teeth" ("pointy end" people) by a significant degree, up to like 10:1 support:shooter depending on the force, IIRC.
As for food, if you live on base, and go to the base food facilities, in general you don't have to pay. I know I didn't, though the McD's on the bases I was stationed at (training and out in the fleet) got a good bit of a workout at my wallet's expense anyway because I'm somewhat picky about food when I get a say in the matter* .

All your safe space are belong to TrumpBase housing and the barracks are free, if you live on base the chow hall is free.
If you live off base you get a housing allowance that is based on the cost of living of the zip code you are living on, and also 323 dollars a month for food if you are enlisted, but you have to pay at the chow hall if you decide to eat there.
I'm in one of the richest zip codes you can live in, so I get about 1700 a month in housing allowance, but I have a roomate and only pay 500 a month. This means I get to pocket the extra 1200 bucks as income and do what I will with it, it's a common practice in the military to do so.
Before anybody says that's wasteful on the governments part, keep in mind that I stimulate the fuck out of the economy with that money.

Now when you say money...
[edit] You just reminded me of this

Given your post number, that should have been, "So when you say stimulate ... "
I'm curious, how many people have seen situations like this
* come up in the service before. This is something that, in the Navy, I don't see - though that's because the Chiefs* typically have their own little reserved space in the galley, or even their own mess on board a carrier.
They do in the Navy, the other services don't put SNCO's on some special pedestal that gives them their own mess, Enlisted eat together, Officers eat together.
I know an E-7 at my base who is dating an E-3, the E-7 is a close friend of mine, I've had to resist telling him how unsat that is, but then again it's National Guard.
Edit: In the same unit, btw.
