I dunno, I felt that Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged had slightly better editing (key word being slightly).
Didn't Kaiser have some kind of Lupin III abridged series before he made DBZ Abridged?
Well, given the first episode of DBZ Abridged had much better editing than Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, Sailor Moon Abridged, or Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged, I can say he certainly succeeded.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Week one of the Broly Hostage situation is about to come to a close. A portal to Hell has opened up and one million Brolys across the multiverse have burst through under orders from Kaiser. The military has been forced to ask Goku for help. Unfortunately, as it turns out, Goku's not real...Neither are the Brolys, it was just Kaiser doing some damn good editing with about a million human actors.
DBZA's first season is pretty atrocious compared to the rest of the series but at the time, it was some of the most entertaining abridging that had ever been done. It just hasn't aged well because the rest of the series raised the bar what we consider quality abridging.
I've noticed that when I show people the series for the first time, they don't even notice how bad season 1 is. I cringe at various parts throughout the season and get the, "It gets better, don't worry," remarks prepared only to notice my companions just cracking the f*ck up.
It was a pretty groundbreaking series in terms of quality right from the get-go. The early bits just don't look like that anymore because later seasons trained us to expect better.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yes I know it's too early, but I don't think I'll have a chance to post this on the proper day.

This song needs more love.To be fair, Season 1 of DBZ Abridged had Nappa in it and a lot of great gags (Yoshi Piccolo, DODGE, Mr. Popo, IT'S...1006, NINE MINUTES EIGHTEEN SECONDS, Vegeta singing that song from The Karate Kid before he gets crushed by Gohan's Ozaru ass, etc.). It pales in comparison to the Namek stuff or the current season, but it's still pretty hilarious.
I saw the first episode of Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, and to be honest, I don't think it's that funny outside of "Screw the rules, I have money!", and even then that just got a tiny chuckle out of me.
Anyone know about Naruto Abridged? Apparently it was fairly popular back in the early abridged community. Some of the old abridged series seem to have taken it as an influence alongside Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged (hell, Lanipator's Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged has thank yous to Masako X and Vegeta 3986 alongside Little Kuriboh). Nowadays, Masako X is just know for voicing Goku and his Dragon Ball analysis videos, and nobody cares about Vegeta 3986.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Just remember most abridged series before DBZ were 1 man fan projects done on their free time and such. DBZA was because some of the most popular abridgers came together to put it out and have consistently been getting more and more effort and skill put into it as well as a lot of volunteers doing various effects and such.
Even the team hate their first season and wouldn't have done many of those jokes now that they are more experienced. They specifically called out Krillin's "Boobs!" joke in episode 1 as something they wouldn't do now.
Also remember that most abridge series just fall away before being completed due to real life issues and the shear amount of work it takes for one. DBZ and Yugioh are the only ones to last this long and via Patreon nowadays.

Where did they come up with the stupid gag of Lani and Vegeta 3986 fighting over the mic? I vaguely remember hearing that it was a recurring gag from another abridged series.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Hmm. I should probably binge through Naruto Abridged after I get done binging with Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged.
Also, I wanted to say, Ant Fish's Jojo's Bizarre Adventures Abridged was fucking hilarious. He's probably one of my favorite abridged series voice actors.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Well Vegeta Numbers was a fan of slapstick comedy and Raditz's attack is a big Ocean vs Funimation dub debate so a fight over it.
After he left a lot of the slapstick comedy was toned down and the writing style shifted a lot to more referential comedy as the personality of the characters settled to what they are today.

I remember there was some alleged falling out between Masako X and Vegeta 3986, but that was after he left TFS.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I remember watching Vision of Escaflowne Abridged. It's one of the few abridged series that actually managed to complete the entire series. Of course this could be due to the fact that there are only 26 episode of Escaflowne. Quality wise I'd say it's above average, but not as good as DBZ season 2 onwards.
I think season 1 was pretty great, at least towards the end. Adric already mentioned some of the really good moments it had.
It had some really dated references, but it's not like TFS has stopped doing that. Nor have they stopped adding cringey elements to the newer seasons.
So I don't think the difference is all that huge. It's noticeably different, but not entirely for the better.

Damn near every Abridged Series back then is like that, even Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged (the first one ever).
