In the first part of the Broly movie, Goke mentions going to a bunch of different villains to see if they had destroyed South Galaxy, including "that monster Pilaf".
I'd been wondering if Team Four Star could ever try abridging the original Dragon Ball anime, given how difficult it is to spoof a comedy. But that comment got me thinking it might actually be pretty funny to see someone abridge/parody Dragon Ball by playing the wacky shenanigans as dark and dramatic as possible, with villains like Pilaf getting the Mr. Popo treatment.
Given how people are already getting sick of the Popo gag, I doubt that would go over well.
This song needs more love.![]()
Which when you consider Abridged Popo's origin, actually makes a truckload of sense.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. The fact that "people" think the Popo gag is getting old is technically objective, but it's also a generalization so it just kind of is what it is. You could also say "people" like that gag and want it to continue, and not be any less (or more) accurate.
I personally think the gag needed to change, but largely because I think the writing for the series has moved past the kind of jokes that made it work, and because at this point the joke itself has reached the point of repetitiveness unless it evolves. So far, it looks like they actually are changing the way Popo's character works, so... yeah. They seem to have been aware of all that too, being good writers and all.

It was just "people"...it's not like they said everyone was getting tired of the joke.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. In that...he's blatantly evil and plotting schemes.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Good thing that's not at all what I said or even implied. Change "Popo joke" to "anything else" and that statement remains true. There are things (manga, television, The Krillin Owned Count, etc.) that I like and enjoy that other people do not or have gotten sick of. That I continue to enjoy them does not make the statement that other people don't or no longer do, any less true.
If simple statements of fact make this thread too unpleasant for you, then that is honestly your problem, not mine. I didn't even say most or imply a majority, I just said some people, which is true as this thread can attest.
