That's not what he (Saiga or Tobias, I'm no longer sure which said).
I believe the point is that, rather then actually fighting Frieza on Namek, and achieving such Super Saiyan to beat him, they should instead escaped Namek, aware of how vastly he outstripped him, leaving him to be a Bigger Bad / looming threat to be feared for when he eventually finds them or something along those lines.
That way, they could build up to eventually fighting him rather than Goku just going boom! Super Saiyan bitches!
I admit, that last part is an exaggeration.
One Strip! One Strip!@Black Yakuza My mistake. I wasn't paying attention to avatars like I usually do.
My various fanfics. He was training alone...no sparing partner in his bubble.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Yeah, the importance of sparring partners is brought up earlier in the arc. It's really the only reason Vegeta lets Trunks hang around him, but after their fight with Cell they can't put up with each other so go separately.
Also, Piccolo doesn't have a Super Saiyan form to master, which is where most of those gains came from.
No, I can say that with certainty because all I said was that they focused on him over other opportunities. I didn't make say anything about what those opportunities or the outcomes would be, just that repeatedly returning to the same well means not doing something different.
I don't even know why you'd think Vegeta is Piccolo 2.0 - their time as villains is completely different, and even though both of them join the good guys their characters arcs while doing so are completely different. The similarities between the two are superficial and only more pronounced in EU-material that likes to paint them as Those Two Guys despite them not having much of a dynamic together.
Sure, he was surpassed, but it took the fulfilling of an ancient myth, and it's the buildup that makes Goku surpassing Frieza amazing. Because unlike other villains, the arc kept telling us it can't be done.
I heavily disagree. I don't think the way Freeza was treated was all that different from previous (or following) villains, MOST of the serious villains end up being given the exact same treatment. It honestly takes a long time to get anything out of Freeza that is more than just the generic "he's the strongest dude ever! you won't win" that gets said about fucking everyone.
There's something to be said for how obnoxiously extreme it is in Freeza's case, but that's all he's got going for him. His role, his treatment both are very standard fare. He just gets by on Arc Fatique and very obnoxious writing.
Comparing Vegeta to Freeza again, I don't understand why Freeza's final fight is meant to justify why he's so much tougher when they follow largely the same outline until both survive the Spirit Bomb. Because from there, Goku gets a power-up that lets him actually beat Freeza with his own power and completely humiliate him, while against Vegeta Goku outright admits defeat and they're only barely able to force him to retreat due to some lucky circumstances. And Goku doesn't even surpass Goku in that arc!
I feel like Freeza's reputation is built on more the timing of his arc (in both Japanese and the West, the popularity peaked during the Namek/Android arcs, and for western fans there wasn't even DB before it) because those factors have an ENORMOUS influence on shaping people's opinions. Not only that, but Freeza was the "insurmountable guy" for so long because of how long the arc was dragged out. Hence the memetic "they're still on Namek".
Oh no I totally agree, when Vegeta did this I had that exact thought.
We get it, Saiga, your favorite arc is the Saiyan Arc. Some of us disagree: I personally would put it in the bottom half of Dragon Ball story arcs.
Not sure if posted but Wen Broly is getting split into two parts because of time constraints.
Part 1 is still coming out on Christmas and part 2 should be out around New Years.

Wonder what next DB Cember's theme might be.
Techniques could make for an interesting list.
I have a message from another time...

It's implied that if not for the heart virus, Goku would still be stronger...like he always is. Its just the first time Vegeta can actually say he outpaced Goku...if just for a little while and on a technicality.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.
