You guys do realize this is a joke show first and foremost, right?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I understand that, it's just kinda silly to make a big deal about it as if they've created some kind of intricately-woven canon but now it's Ruined Forever because they're tapping into their roots every now and then.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Which is why the rape joke wasn't funny. But the Popo thing sometimes comes across as "I don't like it because I don't want Popo to be that strong." We know he is to them, and this isn't exactly as the original series was. It's fine to me.
Plus, it's continuing the trend of Vegeta getting put in his place.
Considering his death is being turned into candy and being eaten using a magic based attack his origin in the abriged universe might not matter.
That or the dumplin is popo is just a joke or just canon to Xenoverse abriged universe. They are not exactly referencing dumplin in any of the episodes.
"Shall I use you, or make you mine... I'm not so sure what I'll do." - DorthyAnd I think assuming our dislike of a joke is overdramatic enough to call out is equally silly.
Or maybe because it just doesn't work as well anymore.
But, yes, him being that strong messes with a bunch of things if you actually think about it. Like, why is he usually not talked about as the strongest outside of the bit? Or the fact that despite all the sending people flying cartoonishly, nobody is ever hurt.
I mean, I'm not saying to stop finding it funny if you do, but I don't think it's that hard to get why it has lost its appeal to some of us.

He turned it back on. That was in Revenge of Cooler, though. So I'm not positive where that lands on the canon scale.
His demonstrations of power include:
- Woke Bardock up from a coma in space
- Crossed Snake Way in the past (back when this was a big deal)
- Prophetically knew Krillin would die on Namek
- Gathering the Dragon Balls exceptionally fast, though he must've done that in DBZ canon.
- Shenron fears him and considers him master.
- Eating Garlic Junior and his lackeys. This is only impressive as the dude is literally immortal. Power-wise, they're what, first-form Frieza-level?
- Threw people off of the tower, ranging in strength to kid Goku to Vegeta.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Well, Popo, like most super powerful characters in Canon DBZ, refuses to actually do anything.
He doesn't give a shit about what's going on. Of course, he's not canon (and the Abridged version of Popo predates Beerus, who does the same thing without tossing people to his death), but it's not a shock to me.
I'm curious as to how they'll handle the Buu turns him into candy and eats him thing I must admit.
I find it funny, but I wouldn't miss it being gone. I kinda feel the same way about the Krillin Owned count, and just the general Yamcha ripping. They kinda feel like they are there just to be there now, even though they can still be funny to me.
Then again, The Android / Cell saga is meant to be the last hurrah for the human characters (as in being relevant even in a tiny way to an arc) so maybe the jokes will end after this.
One Strip! One Strip!Shenron calling him Master isn't that absurd. He was created by God, and TFS established very early on that Popo outranks God on the pecking order. Shenron's also weaker than Piccolo Daimao, so it's nowhere near the level of absurdity as slam-dunking Vegeta off the Lookout.
But in an Abridged series, much of the comedy comes from the exaggerations of the established characters. What made the Popo joke work was that it seemed to be taking that filler scene from the Buu Saga at face value and extrapolating Popo's power based on that. It was rooted in the show - even if not the manga. If Popo's been THAT crazy powerful all along, then he really would be a terrifying eldritch horror by comparison to the characters in the early show.
Popo being Dumplin detracts from that, because it basically turns the character into an O.C. that just happens to be wearing the skin of an established character. It means the jokes are no longer derived from Popo's role in the series. They're just there to be there.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I figure they'll probably write him out as off on vacation.
As for the plot holes about his strength, I figure that's one of the better things from season one, that they wrote themselves out of that corner early. If he wanted to use his strength for anything besides trolling and intimidating, he easily could. He just doesn't feel like it, because he's an asshole who for the most part only likes Kami (and by extension, Piccolo, and possibly Shenron, Korin and Yajirobe). It implicitly took Goku years to grow on him (by "buttering toast!" the "Hypoglycemic Lion Tamer" scene), because Goku's Goku. Then he outright confirmed it with "you're lucky you're endearing".
I am ready to see the Krillin Owned Counter die though. Outside of Kai Abridged 1, it was never funny to me. But, we know it's funny to them.

Writing him off as a vacation is the last thing I want to see them do, and it accentuates the exact problem here:
Until this point, there's been an expectation at least from me that Popo was building to a dramatic punchline-inversion when Super Buu No Sells the joke and kills him. Similar to when Kaio-What?! shattered on the impervious hide of the almighty Frieza. That anticipation is a big part of what makes it enjoyable: the knowledge that it won't be around forever. That we will reach a point where Popo is no longer King Shit of F*ck You Mountain.
That the joke is, in and of itself, establishing Majin Buu's badass cred with each passing recurrence.

I'm having a crazy-busy day and can't spare the time to fact-check like I normally try to do before making a point so I'm sure Saiga will correct me if I'm off-base here, but wasn't post-RoSaT Piccolo wowed by Goten and Trunks's power as Super Saiyans?
They're explicitly powerful enough to give Android 18 cause for alarm, but I'm actually not sure how they stack up to Cell. Even if Vegeta has surpassed them right now, I think he's still around their ballpark.
And I agree that if they actually intend Popo to be Dumplin it ruins the joke. Popo's supposed to die in the Buu Saga. If he's more powerful than Buu, then he officially crosses the line into Creator's Pet God-Mode Sue.
