Like I'd expect any other response for a "purist" like you.
I remember Garlic Jr saga was when I started watching Dragon ball at all, although it did not become a frequent habit until Trunks arrives.
I was super confused until I figured that Maron and Bulma were different gals.
Then much later, I watched Dragon ball mid way and didn't figure out both versions of Launch were the same person until really late.

I think the fact that the Frieza Saga had practically no variation in scenery (freakin' Namek) may have also made it feel much longer.
I hope they abridge Cooler's Revenge in the near future.
Toriyama-people don't all look the same, but it's definitely recognizable.
Did I mention how much I loved the Stealth Pun inherent in using Magus's theme for Piccolo's entrance when he started fighting Frieza?
Re: Saiyans; yeah, I think it's for the best for the story that as of Dragonball Online, the Saiyan race has pretty much gone.
I have a message from another time...Magus was based pretty heavily on Piccolo.
I mean, with the whole "demonic Big Bad and/or rival that becomes an ally" thing.
Stealth pun?
...reference?
It's something. I can't help but feel they used Magus's theme intentionally, because of the "Demon King" connection.

More like Toriyama just has a thing for strange theme naming that carries over. Like the Dairy Brigade- er, Ginyu Force.

I have a message from another time...

Didn't she have purple hair?
I will peel your skin off and put you in a box full of hungry rats. All because I feel like it.
