Not very long. I'm certain they'll cover it in a single episode.

They tend to cut down on the fights the most, because those have by far the most filler and it'd mess with their pacing.

Yeah. And while I'm sure they'll have a few solid gags during the action, there's only really two plot points they need to hit in this fight.

  • Trunks has an awesome new transformation that's more powerful than Vegeta!
  • ...and it's shit.

"This is neither a lair, nor is it evil! This is a laboratory. For science!"

"Yes. Evil science!"

"No! Neutral science! At worst!"

[lol]

This one joke alone made the whole movie awesome. [lol]

Pretty much every time Kochin and Dr. Wheelo clashed over Kochin's evilness was great.

I also liked the in-joke about Brrrr, Zapzap, and Blublub's names; they're a reference to the group's first attempt at adapting the movies where the Bio-warriors could only speak in onomatopoeia. And Brrrrr.

Agreed on all accounts.

I really, really liked Wheelo.

But now I realize I mooooooooostly liked him because of his clashes with Kochin, which were hilarious.

So why is Bulma hanging with Roshi? And why does she care about him and his drugs enough to make Oolong help him as punishment for stealing her shit?

Because Toei.

Well, the drugs are TFS's addition, but Bulma just randomly chilling at Kame-sennin's place is because Toei. They like to treat the cast as more of a tight-knit group of True Companions than the manga actually presents.

I can see Bulma hanging with Yamcha even after they break up. Watching one of his baseball games maybe.

I can see her maybe spending time with Gohan or Chichi or even Krillin.

But Roshi. Generally doesn't seem like someone you want to be around much if you present as female.

Same goes for Oolong actually.

[up] Tien definitely isn't.

Tien is the biggest loner of the bunch.

[up][up][up] I was more trying to lampshade the whole "Z Fighters" thing, another attempt to make them seem like a tight-knit group.

Part of me is surprised Tien was in Battle of Gods.

More surprised that Launch wasn't, actually.

Toei's cast is a tight-knit group of heroes sworn to defend the Earth from all that may threaten it, whose bonds of friendship and togetherness can defeat anyone.

Toriyama's cast is a loosely-assembled bunch of thieves, jerks, and murderers loosely assembled around a mutual love of getting punched in the face by Goku.

Is it just me or does the original World's Strongest ignore the epic climax that was right in front of its nose to go for one that doesn't make any sense instead? So we have a villain wanting to steal Goku's body for himself. What immediately springs to mind when I hear that premise is an awesome final battle where the villain steals Goku's body and it's up to the other fighters to defeat him. Instead they went with him already having a body at about the same strength as Goku's, undercutting the entire point of the story. It seems like such a bizarre decision to me.

I assume "an exoskeleton is not a body" was very much in play in the real one, as well.

Edit; Also, lol, at the others saving Goku. Or at least, I'm sure that's what the writers would be thinking if they heard that suggestion.

Also, if Wheelo's brain was in Goku's body you would have to get the brain out and put Goku's brain back in.

Bulma ain't a brain surgeon. You would need Gero for that.

Captain Ginyu hadn't happened yet, so Toei didn't have the presence of mind to rip it off.

I also like how Goku main motivation was to make sure everyone knows he's the strongest man on Earth.

Also, this movie seemed to emphasize Krilin and Gohan uselessness even more than normal.

He worked very hard for that title! Even kept playing by the rules in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai after Piccolo had scared away the audience and announced the intention to murder him, just to make sure that when the dust settled, he had won fair and square and was the official Champion.

Goku's role in this movie was equivalent to a guy who spent years getting his PHD becoming huffy because people keep not calling him "doctor".

Does anyone besides people who actually have a PHD actually call PHD holders doctors? I don't see that being a common thing.

Yeah, he just wanted to correct a mistake.

I just noticed, but there's this running gag where even through Krillin always gets his ass kicked in super powered fights, he's still totally immune to mundane attacks like firearms or getting a roller dropped on his head.

Krillin is Overshadowed by Awesome. He's quite powerful and, by the time Namek's over, is stronger than 4/5 of the Ginyu Force - and beats any other human by a large margin - but despite being one of the most powerful mortal beings in the universe, the aliens, gods, and other entities entering the show are still so far beyond him that he rarely gets the chance to show it.
