I don't mind Yamcha jokes, but that one just felt out of place and forced.

So how did the Biomen beat Piccolo in the actual movie?

Same way they did it here. Unexplained red beam from the ground.

I noticed there are a lot fewer "Goku is a bad dad" jokes happening now.

And why did Kochin need to get a body when they have a lab that can make genetically engineered forms?

Reasons.

Seriously, though, the idea was to take the body of the guy (if there was one) who could beat those warriors.

My favorite gag from the original version of the movie was when they were listing all the really strong guys they had considered for a body, like King Choppa. Continuity nods are always nice.

[up][up]...but what if no one could do et?

Then he could've just took one of their bodies because...at least by that point in time it would be the strongest body on the planet.

You know, I have to say I love the scene where Gohan's dreaming and Piccolo tries to reach him in his dream.

I also love how good Lani is at voicing Roshi, especially when he's laughing or coughing.

I honestly feel like it would've been funnier if Goku just killed Wheelo anyway after Gohan talked to him. That ending was...out of place.

They might not have wanted to go the mean-spirited route with this more sympathy collecting portrayal of Generic Movie villain: Dr. Wheelo.

I don't really remember that, but then again, I watched DBZ (Movies included) well before I saw Dragon Ball, so I probably missed it.

I also found the joke to be more about the resemblance to the Saibaimen then another Yamcha joke. Blowing him up is what the Saibaimen are best known for.

The fact that Yamcha is a butt monkey in abridged just makes it more fitting, but it's not the reason behind it.

I understand that's probably part of it; it just doesn't make it better. Even thinking in those terms it still seems like a bad joke to me.

Maybe if they made it blow up Piccoro, instead of him getting downed by some random flashing red lighty thing.

With the amount of changes already made, substitution of one for another that also saves a couple of seconds...might've made the joke work better.

Blowing up Piccolo wouldn't have highlighted the blatant ripoff of Saibamen that they are. The Saibamen never blew up Piccolo.

It's basically the same joke they made with Cooler.

  • COOLER: Kill the short one first.
  • KRILLIN: Frieza did it!

That joke wouldn't have worked if Cooler had ordered his men to kill Gohan or Yajirobe, and having the Biomen blow up Piccolo wouldn't either.

But that robot actually attacked Krillin, they didn't bring him in out of nowhere and have him disappear for the rest of the movie for it.

They didn't need to. Frieza did a lot of things and Cooler did a lot of things aping Frieza's arc. They had plenty of fuel to work with on-hand.

The Saibamen literally only did one thing of note. Killing Yamcha is the only memorable moment they have. The rest of their scenes are just variations of them getting slaughtered by all the fighters who are better than Yamcha.

So to illustrate that the Biomen are blatant ripoffs of the Saibamen, which epic moment from their history would you bring up? What achievements can they repeat to show that they're basically the same creatures?

Not really seeing what the point of this discussion is. No one said anything about it being wrong to like the joke, it just didn't resonate with some of us.

You can make fun of them being Saibaman knock offs without putting in a really out of place looking joke. Because they did make fun of it without that.

They're pretty far with the next episode already. I kind of want the Trunks fight to be done in one episode but I'm not so sure that'll happen. How long was that originally?
