...No, no he is. I mean, he has greater influence but he has more influence than all of the characters except for maybe Bulma's family.
Like, at this point it's basically beating a dead horse, and also making the horse to be deader than it even is somehow. And when you do that the jokes become a lot less funny.
Although, I wouldn't have actually found the joke here funny either way. It was way too forced.

Yeah, no. In the canon manga, Yamcha is made fun of less than Vegeta is and nobody in the entire series actually dislikes him. Krillin considers him a friend and rival, Tenshinhan respected his gumption when they first fought and they shake hands as friends after the tournament, Goku thinks he's a jerk until they team up, at which point Yamcha becomes one of his oldest friends, Kami feels bad for embarrassing him publicly and respects his creativity when he sees the Spirit Ball, Bulma and him had a toxic relationship, but after they broke up they stayed close friends, and Piccolo and Vegeta don't care about him one way or another.
Yamcha, in-universe, is viewed by the others as kind and cool. It's only in the anime where he's treated badly and becomes the butt of jokes.
I'm not misinterpreting anything. From Tenshinhan and Yamcha shaking hands and making up post-tournament, Kami apologizing internally to Yamcha for embarrassing him and complementing him on the Spirit Ball, to Roshi and Krillin acknowledging his dedication to training when he reveals that he knows the Kamehameha, Yamcha is repeatedly shown to be a respectable, if outclassed, fighter and he's got plenty of scenes that show him being a nice person. He's definitely not seen as an embarrassing loser, in-universe.

Those scenes may be trivial to the overarching storyline, but they're the focus of the scenes they're in. Yamcha isn't important, I'm not pretending he is. I'm just arguing against the out-of-character Flanderization he gets by the fanbase.

For the record, this discussion started because of this post:
Yamcha's only purpose is showing how much better the other characters are compared to him. Basically "Hey, I'm not as strong a X, but at least I'm not Yamcha."
Which is blatantly untrue. A lot of jokes in both canon and filler are made at the expense of Yamcha, but they rarely, if ever, have anything to do with his lack of strength (We all know Krillin is the butt of those).
"At least I'm not Yamcha" is very much a fandom meme. Not without reason, of course, but still a fandom thing.
Anyway, World's Strongest Abridged was pretty entertaining. Not as good as some others, but still good. It was one of the few I had in VHS, so I have a soft spot for it. I liked the new ending more, honestly. It never made sense to me, why Wheelo would care for a really strong human body when he was already piloting the strongest machine, and the beam struggle at the end doesn't gel with the rest of the film. Glad they subverted the whole thing instead.
Yeah. I'll admit that.
My problem is that, while how TFS did it was kinda funny at first, after a while, it really did become similar to beating a dead horse. And then the fandom latched on to it and it got worse.
Yeah. Everyone in this series is kinda useless, especially in an abridge parody that dials it up to eleven, but they pound the Yamcha button so hard, it kinda stops being funny.
And again, I actually have found some of the stuff they did with him funny. This was the first time I didn't really laugh. I think its a joke that just needs to be retired.
One Strip! One Strip!I personally found the scene fucking hilarious.
Overall I thought the movie was pretty weak (I think they dragged it too much) but there was a lot of individual things I liked. Wheelo was great, I also liked Piccolo getting frozen, Kochin's argument with Shenron, the Dark Humour with the Bio Warriors, Goku setting down the Spirit Bomb and regular Piccolo being just as abusive as brainwashed Piccolo.
I was kind of expecting for Goku to go through with it and kill Wheelo even after Gohan talked him down, and part of me still wants to see that.

For the record, it's not like I'm unilaterally opposed to Yamcha jokes, it's just that jokes like the one in the movie seems really forced and lazy.
I have the same problem with a few of the Krillin Owned Count moments. I like the joke, in general, but some moments just seem really out of place. And then there are other moments where it seemed weird to me they didn't count it.

I will say my 2-cents on the "Yamcha is the Butt-Monkey" thing is I feel like the Butt-Monkey trope only really exceeds when the character in question in some way has it coming. It's why I find all of Vegeta's Break the Haughty scenes in abridged so hilarious.
I'm not bothered by the Yamcha jokes but I get why some of you don't like them just the same.

Like I said in the Dragon Ball thread, that just sounds like one of the thing the anime likes to exaggerate. Like Chichi being a huge bitch or Goku's lack of interest in his family. Like, the seeds are there in the manga, but the anime team for whatever reason likes to make it out to be everything they are.

Beerus told everyone to hide the fact that Monaka's weak and that he's gonna be fighting Goku in a Monaka costume. Yamcha fucked up by pointing out the real Monaka.
Also, Goku was pretty stupid for not noticing the obvious and for not counting high numbers, but that's to be expected.
Fun episode nonetheless.
I thought the joke was more about that than it was about Yamcha, then they just added that in to drive it home.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I get that tipping point argument. If they hadn't made so many Yamcha jokes before, this one would've been fine in relation to their resemblance to the Saibamen. With everything else already, it, like the Krilin Owned Counter, just didn't work for me.
I really like that scene were Yamcha, annoyed by them giving him shit, just goes "You know what? Have fun." knowing they'd get their due soon enough.

I mean come on...Mister Satan is a greater potential threat than Yamcha, and he doesn't even know any ki skills.
Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty.
