I always wondered what would happen if you ate a Senzu Bean after you were already full.

Doesn't a Senzu just magically heal you no matter how much damage you have as long as you're still alive?

I would assume that if you ate one when you're full, nothing would happen other than you just eating a bean.

It's not like it has a set caloric count that it fills you up with and heals you a certain amount.

I think it has a lot of calories in it.

Originally, it was just a super-efficient food that Goku ate while he was training with Korin.

At... some point... it got healing powers ascribed to it. I'm not too sure when or why.

I have a message from another time...

It got healing powers the same time it was introduced, in the King Piccoro saga.

Unless you mean, healing fatal injuries...that I would assume was a natural conclusion of it healing regular injuries. During Piccoro Jr. Saga is when that door was discovered.

Yajirobe ate a bunch of senzu at the same tine. He briefly looked a bit fatter.

[up][up]The Senzu weren't introduced in the King Piccolo saga, though, but during Red Ribbon, when Goku first met Karin. Then, the Senzu was only said to be worth 10 days of food. No healing power whatsoever.

Yeah but I think it did restore Goku's strength.

Which eating also did, though.

"Hungry" was basically a status effect for Goku back in DB.

If a senzu is worth 10 days of food, that's a lot of calories on it.

Well, you need to take in calories and nutrients or whatever when you're heart to replenish blood lose and heal faster right? I think that's how that works. Anyway, if you're significantly injured I could see that energy being converted to heal instead of just fill you up. Or something.

Yeah but I think it did restore Goku's strength.

It did, indeed, because that is what eating does to Goku. It restores his strength. If he is hungry he is weak and when he eats, the strength comes back. And he was given the Senzu not because he was weak, but because he was hungry. Being hungry is what he complained about and what Karin proposed to fix by giving him a bean. At no point in that conversation it implied the Senzu had healing powers or any magical power beyond being a super food.

[up][up][up]~20,000 if we assume 10 days for an average person. Probably a hell of a lot more if it's 10 days for someone like Goku.

I wonder what the people in Toriko would make of Senzus: a small, crunchy, bitter white/green bean that fills you up for 10 days and heals all injuries and fatigue.

Here.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if they didn't taste good... Yajirobe is a glutton, but I don't think he'd want to be full without tasting anything.

Korin says they taste bitter in the manga. Yajirobe saying they taste like fish was English Dub.

It makes more sense that they'd taste like fish since Korin is a cat.

Now I want to see what happens if someone takes, like, an entire jarful of senzu at once.

Outraged by the absence of a giant buffet of deliciousness, Yajirobe ate a handful when he got to the top of Karin's Tower before they had a chance to properly explain to him what the Senzu does. He ballooned up like that plum girl from Willy Wonka.
