It's basically his signature move.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I love this interaction between Trunks and Krillin:
I know, right?!?
Also, when did Trunks hit Krillin again?

what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseIt's more that Krillin is good enough that he can tell Trunks' true power just by looking. He doesn't need to be hit.
Plus, Trunks is probably not as good at hiding his power (especially when it's so much) as Krillin would be. Compare to Krillin, Trunks is probably very inexperienced at stuff like that.
One Strip! One Strip!Important to note: masking one's battle power is not a passive effect; most of the PTO had never even heard of the concept before engaging the Earthlings. "He has a power level of 5, that's so pathetic, HE'S BREAKING MY FACE HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!" was a common occurrence in the Saiyan and Frieza arcs.
It's a skill, and one Trunks has no reason to have ever cultivated seeing as the enemies he was training for had no ability to sense ki.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I'm guessin Gohan still taught him the skill. He's just not as good at it as the other Z-warriors due to never really needing it since the Androids can't sense his Ki anyway (and therefore can't tell when he's gotten stronger).
It's possible that learning to raise and lower your power is just a skill that you are taught during the course of proper training.
One Strip! One Strip!
I don't think it's out yet. On the episode page it just says the download link is 'COMING SOON'. Hopefully, it'll be up when they put the episode on Youtube.
With the way the show put regularly points out Vegeta's flaws, I only just realized that while he gets worfed in every saga, it's for different reasons most times and the so blows to his ego hit very different nerves.
It's funny how some of Vegeta's best characterization moments are when he's getting his ass handed to him (or setting himself up to get his ass handed to him).
I'm not sure Krillin knowing when someone is holding back has to do with Trunks being bad at hiding his power level. It could just be that Krillin's that good at sensing energy.
Or even that Krillin's just really good at reading people. Body language. Muscle movement.

If it's Goku's e'specialty, then it should be Krill-fish's specialty too.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Or even that Krillin's just really good at reading people. Body language. Muscle movement.
I think it's the latter one. Krillin may not be very powerful but he's clocked TONS of field time. He's seen on many occasions how people act when they're giving their all and, on as many occasions, how they behave when they're sandbagging.
It's not, really. Goku's really good at sensing energy being used and reading fighting styles as they're punching him. This is more third-person psychological.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Goku is good enough at sensing energy to sense Bulma from another planet, and good enough at suppressing his power level that, at the World Tournament, he hit the punch machine weaker than Krillin.
Goku hit the punch machine for 186, Krillin hit it for 192.
Goku is actually really good at ki control.

I dunno, Android 16 doesn't have any complexes. Just birds.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
