If Trunks didn't hold back, he could have wiped out Semi-Perfect Cell before he thought to use the Solar Flare. He only failed because Vegeta kept getting in the way, which if Trunks went full power would have rendered that moot.
Either because Vegeta wouldn't be able to knock him off course, or because his pride would be too shattered to even intervene.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! So that makes it two episodes in a row that we got some of Faulconer's score, though it was The Jimmy Hart Version.
Really liked Gohan's Super Saiyan transformation. While I thought the 'Dodge' joke would be really predictable, they actually handled it well. Like, there was a REASON why Goku was trying to make Gohan dodge. It wasn't just there because callbacks.
Although, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering if Goku used a Super Saiyan blast on purpose to make Gohan transform. I mean, he said flat-out that he was going to make Gohan a Super Saiyan today. Was this part of his plan? I'm not completely sure.
Vegeta is great, as always. As is Krillin. I swear, when Trunks mentioned that if Krillin was a Saiyan, he'd be the strongest character in the show, I said "I know, right?" at the exact moment Krillin said that. I don't know if that says more about me or about TFS.
I'm not in LOVE with Perfect Cell yet. He's entertaining, but nothing that screams Arc Villain yet. His personality hasn't really come through so far. If he has something unique about him.
Also holy crap Faulconer score. Was NOT expecting that, considering Kaiser has often talked about his distaste for the score. But if they had to put it in at some point, this was probably the best way. Not to mention it was actually a remix of it.
I also liked the short little remix of Hikari no Willpower. So, yeah...
Anyway, great episode. I didn't even care that it was only 11 minutes long. It was a perfect length.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Kaiser doesn't necessarily dislike the Faulconer score, he just didn't grow up with it so it doesn't hold much nostalgic value to him.
I do like how they've been using it here and there in this saga, though. It is the most fondly-remembered saga of the ol' Funimation dub.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!"...and apparently that hit a nerve." He says, or close to such.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Although, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering if Goku used a Super Saiyan blast on purpose to make Gohan transform. I mean, he said flat-out that he was going to make Gohan a Super Saiyan today. Was this part of his plan? I'm not completely sure.
I think it's implied that Goku was actually trying to make Gohan do something - from what he said afterwards, he was gambling on Gohan taking the blast on rather than actually dodging (though he thought he might have). He was also lying about him blasting hard enough to kill him, I think.
I really liked how Gohan transformed here, because it shows off both their characters pretty well. To Goku the ruse made sense and was a total success, but he doesn't understand how Gohan would obviously see from his point of view - and meanwhile Gohan's perspective on everything in the moment is really very tragic.
It even sets up the whole "Gohan fighting Cell" thing, since Goku will make the exact same mistake there.

It's a long held fan theory (inspired by some lines added in various adaptations) but there's nothing to actually say what would happen - or even to say that the attack didn't already hit Cell dead on, despite the massively uneven distribution of damage.
Yeah, but I don't think that was meant to imply that diminished his attack in any way. It was more like "he's going to destroy the planet! Oh wait no he accounted for that".
Yeah, that's what damaged Zarbon enough for Vegeta to overpower him. It's pretty much just as effective as any other technique, the more ordinary beams and physical moves get the No-Sell treatment just as often.
But the ki spam makes for great filler, in that it's easy to animate, looks visually impressive, and can be looped as long as they need it. But since it's filler, it can't actually have an impact on the fight, so there end up being a very large number of examples where it just does nothing.
Wanted to point out that I TOLD you all Gohan's anger at Goku wouldn't make him go Super Saiyan and last until Goku dies.
I like Perfect Cell.
Also, he said "Consider that nerve touched." He knew prodding about King Vegeta would work. Possibly because that discussion was held on Earth, I dunno.
I'd like to have Goku explain to Yamcha that he was intentionally modeling Gohan's haircut on Yamcha's, to be nice.

You could probably replace Vegeta's name in that last sentence with the name of anyone else and it'd hold true.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!

Well, that was entertaining.
You know, it's easy to forget that Trunk's held back during the whole thing with Cell. Not sure why Krillin is acting like Trunks is all that much to blame, but I suppose you could argue that if he'd used more of his power from the get-go, he could have stopped Cell even with Vegeta getting in the way.
Still say Krillin and Vegeta both fucked up worse, but yeah, Trunks' decision to hold back like he did wasn't helping things.
