Yeah. According to voice actors, they finished recording for it months ago. They've just haven't been able to release it yet because...reasons. Most likely business-related ones.
I thought the Ocean Dub only did the first 52 episodes because that was all they bought the rights for? And then later on, when FU Nimation got the rest of the series, they decided to continue in-house.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Glaring at you, Garlic Jr. Filler Saga.
I hated that so much when I was a kid. It didn't help the movie wasn't released over here.
Other than that, I wasn't really "confused" by anything in the early DBZ days, despite not watching the original. The plot was simple enough (the most confusing things being the dragon balls, but they get explained early), and I guess I just parsed out the references to the past.
Of course, my perception was very warped. For me, Piccolo was always a "good guy" (my favorite, even), so learning he wasn't aways was a bit surprising. Also, I thought Lunch was always an angry blonde woman, so I was a bit surprised when I read the manga and found she transformed when sneezing, and that the nice version was the default.
Was default until the Blonde angry version ended up having more screen time overall. Then just became default.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I had that issue watching the Dragon Ball anime when it got to the Red Ribbon Army. I kept waiting for when Dr. Gero would be introduced, because the series had introduced him as a returning nemesis from their arc.
Then Goku reached Muscle Tower and we met Major Metallitron and Android 8, and I was like, "This is it! This is where Dr. Gero comes in!"
Then we met Dr. Flappe, the (filler-exclusive) creator of Android 8, and I went, "Wait, what?"
And then there never was a Dr. Gero, just a confusing plot hole left by Toei.

I can only guess it is because she is more interesting. Nice Lunch is very boring, to be honest. Also, that only apply to DBZ, I thinknote . In Dragon Ball, Nice Lunch is definitively the prevalent one, with the Angry Lunch usually appearing for a quick gag at time. Well, in the manga, anyway (never watched Dragon Ball anime).
I was kinda waiting for a Gero mention as well, but since I never watched the anime, I never got confused, just mildly disappointed. It is not like he could have been very prominent, anyway, as Goku and friends never met him.

Yep, the retcon confused me as well.
I also remember back in the day, funimation would release the videos on VHS before they would air on tv, so when it got to the Buu Saga, I had no idea who the ring announcer was, despite him acting like he was old friends with Goku.

It's not really a retcon because Toei created Dr. Flappe long before Toriyama came up with Dr. Gero. It's just the result of Toei's efforts at Adaptation Expansion conflicting with Toriyama's core material.
Sometimes it was because They Just Didn't Care especially where the afterlife was concerned, but I'm willing to give them a pass on this one because they aren't psychic. They couldn't have known Toriyama was going to turn around and mine that particular role for a character five years later.

Old friends isn't exactly correct...but considering he attended 3 tournaments in a row, them being familiar isn't strange.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I recall the second time the original Dragonball aired in Canada it was right after that MTV Spider-man series.
(Which aired its episodes in Canada in the correct order by the way.) I was all like, "are you guys sure you mean Dragonball, without the Z?" But then it started with Goku meeting Bulma so I was happy. I don't remember if I was anticipating an appearance from Dr. Gero, but I do remember being hyped for the fight between Goku and Tao Pai Pai.
Oh, and one of my favorite characters was the announcer guy from the wrold martail arts tournament. He was there for so many important parts of Goku's life and was one of the few muggles to know the real story of Dragonball, not like those idiot Satan worshipers.

Yeah it was just a random call back because he doesn't even apear again once plot starts.

Nice on Toonami.
But then the original Funimation dub had those really dumb lines still (Push ups, sit ups, and plenty of juice, really?).
It kept on in Canada, yeah.
