I think I pinpointed what made me like Krillin and 18. They act like an actual couple, in contrast to Chi-Chi babysitting or screaming at the strongest man in the universe for doing what he does best, and Bulma and Vegeta's shouting matches.
Probably the only human alive who Vegeta fears.
I love you, Krillin!! -struggling to breathe- I love you as well, honey..Super threw out everything interesting about Videl to slot her into the Japanese Housewife archetype. She fits firmly into the Japanese tradition where women are expected to abandon their interests, hobbies, and/or jobs once they are married and focus all of their attention on the home and family.
And That's Terrible - both that the tradition exists and that Videl was subjected to it.

Not really. Maybe a bit, but Bulma still retained her headstrong personality and was still working on the company and her projects long after forming a family. 18 was never shown to have any hobby whatsoever and her personality didn't change much.
Videl, meanwhile, might as well be a different character after marring. She acts and dresses completely different and apparently abandoned her fighting hobby, which was something her whole character was centered around.
PS:Chichi is the other character who suffered a similar transformation ofter marriage. But she had very little personality to begin with, so it is less obvious. And at last she wasn't made bland, unlike Videl. Furthermore, there was an actual time skip, so a personality change is a bit more understandable.

Well...actually, I'm not even going to go into the timeline of Super, considering we don't have any official confirmation of when it's taking place.
Bulma/Vegeta just works and gets the best in-canon moments (at least in Super). Krillin/18 is also really cute. Gohan/Videl would be great if there was something to it. Like, I was just rewatching Broly 2 (don't ask me why), and it made me realise how much I miss when Videl was a character.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! Why were you watching Broly 2? :P
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseBulma sort of bowed out of the action. Namek was her last big adventure. She was briefly present for some of the Android fighting, but by the time Buu happened, the most she contributed was gathering the Dragon Balls to revive everyone Majin Vegeta killed, effectively cleaning up after her husband.
Future Bulma invented a time machine and sent Trunks back in time to save the world, but she's a separate version of the character.
However, while one might attribute Bulma's lack of agency in the Buu arc as being due to marriage-induced domesticity, an alternate explanation exists in the fact that there wasn't really much adventuring to do in that arc. Despite being one of, if not THE longest arc in the series, it had a fairly simple plot. A bad guy appeared and everyone had to fight it. So she didn't do much, but there wasn't much for her to do anyway.
As for post-Buu works, I think the only one that actually brings Bulma back to plot importance is, ironically, the shittiest. Dragon Ball GT had her invent a superweapon to artificially induce Super Saiyan 4 in Vegeta.
Meanwhile Battle of Gods and, to a much more aggravating extent, Super's adaptation of it use the act of hurting Bulma as a Manpain Power-Up for Vegeta, completing the reduction of her role from Major Character to quasi-fridged love interest.
As for 18, the only thing I can think of is the infamous Stay in the Kitchen moment in Resurrection of F and its Super adaptation. Even in the Buu arc, she had her own agency and a subplot of her own design.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The "how dare you hit my Bulma" moment has some irony between its intended impact and its actual impact.
It was obviously meant to show that Vegeta's grown enough to want to protect his family now.
But in execution, it just made Vegeta look like his cliché fanfiction interperetation.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI don't think it was even meant to show how Vegeta's grown. He already crossed that milestone when he blew himself up in a Senseless Sacrifice for his family and also Kakarot.
Bulma getting hit by Beerus was just a dramatic excuse to justify Vegeta powering up enough to land a couple hits on the Destruction God. It gave him a Manpain power boost in order to lob a bone to Vegeta fans and show him briefly surpassing Goku.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. Also the whole "so now Vegeta gets rage boosts".
I heard a joke that everyone's stealing stuff from Gohan. First Vegeta took his rage boosts, and then Goku took his 'super-powerful in base form'.
Which is more of a coincidence, but still.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Which I hope they don't cut out in Abridged. It may largely be filler, but I really liked that arc.
Think of all the opportunities to make fun of Yamcha.

Super Android 13 wasn't long ago.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Never said they were, just that painting his entire relationship with his kids based on them is a bit ridiculous. It's good that you're not going on about Goku being father of the year because I also said the exact same thing, I think in that very post.
Honestly, considering how things had been the past few years I could completely see where he was coming from. Raditz came because of him. Vegeta and Nappa, as well as Frieza all got involved because of Raditz. Frieza was coming to Earth because of Goku. And then the whole thing with Gero and the Androids started because Gero wanted revenge. Plus, people wanting revenge on Goku has been a thing since he was a kid.
As far a couples go, I normally don't think about them at all, but as time goes on I think I'm becoming more and more annoyed by 18 and Krillin. Maybe because of how much people go on about how much a "good" couple they are has soured me to them or maybe for some reason I don't like Krillin being happy. But beyond that persistent annoyance that I'm not sure is there, I don't really care about any of them.

18/Krillin are my favorite by far in both versions.

I honestly have no opinion whatsoever about the canon couples. They interact so little that I barely register.
In agridged, though, Kuririn and 18 are getting up there. Their interaction in the last episodes were quite cute. I particularly like they made so 18 had a small, but explicit, crush on Kuririn herself, so it feels less like Kuririn was getting a "reward" for caring (that aways bothered to me in original).
