Right. The episode.
So, the first musical sequence was absolutely adorable and I love it and Gohan's going Super Saiyan next episode which is awesome (although Hellsing and World's Strongest will probably come out before Ep 52).
I just like Gohan, ok?
Anyway, I'm kind of glad they brought back the rape jokes with Cell and 18. I thought they overdid it a little when he was in his 1st form, but it had been gone for a few episodes after that. And this context makes so much sense. There's no way around it - the way Cell finds and absorbs 18 is reeking of Does This Remind You of Anything?
And Tenshinan and Piccolo betting who'd screw up was amazing. Basically, TFS saw the Idiot Plot, lampshaded it, and had way too much fun with it.
Also, does anyone think Cell singing is a Call-Back? When Freeza transformed, he sung ominously. And Cell is part Freeza, so...

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Cell's Perfect form kinda looks like Freez's second form...mostly the face area and height, so it makes sense.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.![]()
I think they used it when Fetus Cell first appeared IIRC.
Cell hummed it during this episode.
I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up. So far they really seem to like the Faulconer Cell themes (unsurprising, they're awesome). At the very least, I figure we might get this
at the appropriate time.
I also wonder if we'll get the Faulconer Buu themes as well.

I really like they actually bothered giving them character development. In canon, you got the sense 17 and 18 are not as horrible as their future version would imply, but you never really understood why. Here it is shown 17 and 18 were on the path to become their genocidal future selves but 16 influence and Cell made them change.
Also, upon rewatching:
18 tells 16 to "look after the little guy". But now I'm wondering if 16 interprets that to mean, like, Gohan or someone. After all, he thinks Krillin is a duck, not a person.
It might explain what'll happen in the Cell Games.
And I'm thinking way too much into this.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!I'm not sure if Idiot Plot really characterizes what went down with Vegeta, Krillin, and the absorption. With Vegeta, it was well connected to his character flaw and arc and a case of him fucking up bad. That flaw is on Vegeta, not the plotting itself, especially since it involved a trait we knew well. Plus it had Cell manipulating Vegeta for it, which added to his characterization too. As for Krillin, we got him really wrestling with a dilemma and more a memorable character moment. It wasn't the brightest things to do at those times on either points, but the plotting itself is fine.

Improving as an author, one video at a time.I guess it's more of an Idiot Plot in the original, where there isn't as much characterisation. TFS made it quite a bit better.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Pretty much that. It's not an Idiot Plot, Vegeta was just consistently Vegeta and Krillin did the same things for the same reasons. Someone make a bad decision doesn't automatically equal Idiot Plot. If Vegeta did anything else but what he did, he wouldn't be the same character he was at that point, which is the very point of making that mistake and the reactions to him. Krillin meanwhile hadn't been in such a scenario before, so we never saw what he would do under such circumstances, but we did get an answer there.

Well, he kinda failed at that, considering his mere presence in the past totally buggered well beyond what he could deal with.
Not his fault, but still.
