Is it wrong that I want the show to be a musical now?

Oh really when?

...Of course, the other thing about the remote is that, presumably, it sends a certain signal along a certain coded frequency.

And, like, it doesn't seem to be a laser, given Bulma talks about the range and not about, y'know, pointing it at the androids, so it's definitely in the radio end of the electromagnetic spectra.

So my question is, like. What if the same or a similar signal is put out by a radio tower or TV remote or a wifi router or something?

[up] Everything should be a musical.

Everything.

The Dragon Ball anime would be so much better as a musical.

As soon as they changed it from an off switch to a detonator I knew they were going to make a joke about Adnroid bits being strewn about, kind of like how Krillin said Chaotzu was "over there, and over there, and over there."

That scene where Bulma said shes been "doing this" longer than either Piccolo or Tien reminded me of one of the scenes they cut out about Oolong saying how he's known Yamcha longer than anyone else in the room. I thought it was a nice bit of continuity and I'm glad they used this chance to acknowledge that Bulma's been a character in this anime since episode one.

I also appreciate them cutting down Cells entire transformation sequence to just a few frames (allthough I do miss Trunks trying to actually attack during the transformation sequence)

Because that took forever in the anime (from the end of one episode to the end of the next)

Sure Gohans SSJ transformation came in between, but still..

I dunno why TFS changed the remote Bulma gave Krillin from the "deactivate" remote to the "bomb" remote. I kinda want to ask them?

...I mean, if they had deactivated her but not destroyed her, would that have stopped Cell or made it easier for him?

I guess it makes more sense to have it blow her up because would he even be able to destroy her once she's deactivated? I guess he could just use Destructo Disk, or is the way it works that deactivating her makes her as durable as a normal human?

I am also happy that they cut out the scene where C18 is slowly sucked into Cell's tail. I found this always uncomfortable to watch, and since TFS made me care more about C18 (and the nice interaction she had with Krilin), I greatly appreciate that we did not have to witness this.

Also, I like how they have Goku genuinely enjoying this father/son time with Gohan and how Gohan is (more or less) enjoying it too. I mean, it was like that in the real thing too, but people don't really remember that part and considering the abridged characterization of their relationship it's nice.

...Which means it's all probably build up to make Goku's decision look even worse but, eh, that's one thing he actually did drop the ball on hard.

...It's weird how I've gotten to the point where I'm actively anticipating the Episode Breakdowns more than, y'know, the actual episodes and specials.

Like, the episodes and specials are nice and all, but I don't really think, "why are they taking so long" or "when's the next one coming out" or anything.

It'll come out when it comes out. Or when they go to a convention. Whichever comes first.

But everytime an episode comes out I instantly start to get the mindset of "okay, now when's the Episode Breakdown" and "why the fuck isn't the episode breakdown here yet" and.

I dunno.

Weird.

I guess it makes more sense to have it blow her up because would he even be able to destroy her once she's deactivated? I guess he could just use Destructo Disk, or is the way it works that deactivating her makes her as durable as a normal human?

I mean, why is she as durable as she is? Is it because of her energy? Does "deactivating" her just render her unconscious, or does it also affect her generator in some way temporarily?

Like. Does it put her in sleep mode? Hybernation? Shut down?

What is it like from her experience subjectively? Does it empty her ram?

...Next question, does she have ram?

What would happen if you rubbed magnets around her head? Or her brother's?

When you turn a computer off, it's not running so it doesn't need much power. Except maybe in the bios where there's a battery. So it can keep some information stored for when you turn it on again.

And the battery doesn't use much power when it's not actually on.

Given she can learn the destructo disk it seems like what her generator does is make energy that she can use the way other fighters use ki. Which is to say, the energy isn't technically ki, but she and the other androids use it as though it was.

If ki is at least part of why the characters are as durable as they are, then presumably android energy is the same way.

I think they kind of adressed that issue in a filler when Krilin threw a stone at Goku while expecting that he'd easily react to it. Instead he hit him and Goku complained that even he was not invincible/invulnerable. Of course since it was a filler and played for laughs, I always assumed that sleeping/ being unconcious drastically weakens the fighters because they need to focus their KI for their strength.

unnoun Since: Jan, 2012

I mean, not all aspects of durablility seem strictly ki related.

Like.

Toriyama says that "There are physical limits to the strength of the body itself, so in order to overcome that barrier, it’s necessary to increase your “ki”. Normally, the more you increase your ki, the harder it is to control, so ki control is also important."

The way that's phrased makes it seem like having a lot of ki and being able to control it is the way to get to superhuman levels like Goku or even Krillin or Yamcha, but the fact that he mentions the "physical limits of the body itself" indicates to me that there is an extent to which someone can get stronger without necessarily increasing ki and/or power level. Like, to get past that limit you need ki, but you can reach the limit without ki.

And, like, different bodies have different physical limits, presumably.

In Resurrection F, when Frieza comes back, he's still in a bunch of chunks from when Trunks cut him up. And there's a scene where all the different chunks of him try to come back together. It was really gross, I loved it.

There's a distinct sense that Frieza didn't actually die when Trunks carved him up. Because that's the state Shenron resurrects Frieza in. So it seems like what actually killed Frieza was the ki blast that vaporized him. That Frieza and presumably his species can actually survive as tiny pieces like that. They don't have a healing factor, so it doesn't actually help, but.

And, like. That really doesn't seem like a "ki" thing.

What makes Cell as durable as he is would presumably be the combination of Namekian regeneration with Frieza's capacity to survive all diced up like that.

Event then, while Goku was off in his assessment that Gohan would be able to fight like he would, he was ultimately right that only Gohan was strong enough to defeat Cell.

Oh, yeah, I know, it's just the not telling him that part makes no sense, no matter how you slice it. Like, even if Goku thinks that Gohan would enjoy the challenge I don't see why he would think springing it on him at the last minute was a smart move. Especially since he must have realized that Gohan himself hadn't realized how powerful he really was.

I guess because he wanted them to do nothing but relax on the week before the tournament but he could have said something like "Son, you've surpassed me" while they were still in the chamber, that way he at least has a little time to prepare for the moment if Goku can't beat Cell.

I mean, there are several points in the fight where Cell hits Gohan a bunch and Gohan's energy doesn't actually go down. Where Gohan isn't even actually hurt.

Where people think Gohan is dead until Goku says to sense his energy and.

...Yeah it's weird how people keep forgetting they can do that.

And, like. I love the detail that Goku gave it his all and Gohan keeps assuming they're holding back.

[up] ...Yeah, you're right about that.

Springing it on him like that was a dick move.

...Speaking of dick moves, Goten's conception is coming up.

His Ki didn't decrease but he was at least a little hurt. His head was bleeding and he was screaming in pain from Cell's bear-hug.

[up][up](Sigh) I really hope not.

I mean, DBZA's always relied on call backs, but I wish they'd tone them down a little lately and start coming up with original things again. It's getting to the point where it's less Call-Back and more Broken Record.

In a sense. I mean, the well-placed Brick Joke is what the show's famous for. But call backs are literally all they're doing lately. It's getting very, very noticeable.

I don't think call backs are all they're doing. It might be more noticeable because they have a lot of them owing to how long they've been going on but I'd hardly say they're relying on them for most of the humor.

[up][up]Well you're bright and cheery today.

I mean, for me the thing with the call backs and references is that the new context often changes the meaning in some fascinating and interesting ways. It reminds you of the past and asks you to compare and contrast with the present situation.

Eh, I guess I'm just not a fan of the Abridged Cell Saga in general.

I get that Black Comedy is the show's thing, but lately there's too much Black and not enough Comedy. It's getting downright uncomfortable.

That makes me think of Cell's "Look at what she's wearing" spiel. They really like this "Cell is analogous to a rapist" bit. I could see why it would make people uncomfortable, although I'm really not bothered by it.

[up][up][up]I'm not sure I agree.

I mean.

Cell's line about how 18's begging to be absorbed because of what's she's wearing was horrific because of how real it was, and how realistic it was, but also sorta funny because her clothes are so innocuous, which provides a commentary of the "real life" usages of that line of thinking, which.

I mean. A+ social commentary on how fucked up and dumb rape culture is. Good job. I think it's funny in a positive way. It makes you laugh at the disturbing structures of our world in order to mock them.

So that's an example of a "dark" joke that I not just liked, but actually adored.

I'm not saying your reaction is invalid, but it's also incredibly and ridiculously subjective.

I think that "edgy" humor that's just to be edgy is dumb, and I don't like it, but the thing with Cell's behavior and how gross and similar to real-life trends of behavior from certain people is that it honestly feels like there's a point to it.

You laugh at Cell without ever really quite being on his side either.

Which. Same with Vegeta so far, really. In all honesty.
