But if we didn't have Potara, Kibito would have continued to exist, and we can't have that.

Re: Bills: there's actually one or two missions in Xenoverse that managed to botch the translation and call him Bills. And I think his Z Souls also make that mistake. And inconsistent translation of his sphere of destruction ultimate.

...Xenoverse doesn't have the strongest translation. Which is hilarious, considering the professional VA work (Broly aside) and otherwise good polish.

[up]What worries me is that Xenoverse's "Blind Idiot" Translation seems to be pandering to people who think a work should be kept "pure" rather than accidental, like so many other things that are quote unquote "translated" from Japanese nowadays. I'm a tad nervous Super might get the same treatment.

It's not even one thing or another so much as it's inconsistent with itself.

Like, only in those subtitles and item descriptions is he called "bills". It's "Beerus" everywhere else, including the voice acting for the anomalous subtitle.

Sometimes, even entire lines are recycled, but scripted differently. Compare Beerus's speech about Goku retaining his god power in the story mode, to the same speech in the Parallel Quest where you fight Godku.

Vegerot sounds unappealing to me.

Would've been a good "rotten vegetable" pun, though.

If we were to go by the logic that the name we use should be the name that preserves the pun then we certainly should be using Kakarotto. I could never see how "Kakarot" was supposed to be a play on "carrot" but "Kakarotto" is only slightly different from "kyarotto".

Also, to preserve the pun, "Krillin" should probably be "Kurilin" (which is a bitch to say) since his name is apparently a combination of "kuri" (the name of a Japanese chestnut) and "shaolin".

[up][up]Kakarot. Ka-karot. Ka-carrot.

I'm fine with Vegerot. It makes it sound like Vegeta isn't 99% of the fusion, which Vegito doesn't.

Holstein Shock is the name of the attack where Ginyu impales himself before switching bodies. Holstein is a type of Cow. It was a while ago, but I explained this here.

You never understood the pun in Kakarot?

Aside from the redundant first syllable, it's basically a funky pronunciation of "carrot".

The thing that would bug me about Vegerot is how it's a name Vegeta would pick for their fusion rather than an equal naming, since Goku doesn't identify as Kakarot. Granted there's still elements of that in Vegito, but they're less obvious.

...So the implication, confirmed in I think Raging Blast, was that the stuff with Tapion happened in the Future Trunks timeline as well, right?

So, how exactly did that go down?

Is it wrong that I want to see that?

That's the big problem with Wrath of the Dragon. Wrath seems to actually fit into the timeline just fine, except for the fact that it functions as an origin story for Trunks's sword, but uses the wrong Trunks to tell it.

As a consequence of its position and choice of timeline, Hirudegarn is so powerful that there is no conceivable way for this to have ever happened to Future Trunks. So the origin remains unexplained despite an entire movie dedicated to explaining it, because Toei.

I saw a theory once that because Hirudegarn was so unstoppably powerful in the Future Trunks timeline, what happened there was Trunks killed Tapion with the sword instead of hesitating and allowing it to break free.

Just in case you aren't familiar, there's a moment in the movie where Tapion manages to seal Hirudegarn inside himself again, and begs them to kill him so he can take Hirudegarn down with him. Trunks refuses, Hirudegarn breaks free, but then gets fisted real good by Goku.

That does sound pretty interesting, actually.

Throw in Gohan and the Future Androids to round out the cast and you could have a pretty awesome three-way conflict, with Hirudegarn being unstoppable and the Androids being overpowered for the first time in their lives. Trunks and Gohan having to balance the fact that Hirudegarn might be able to destroy the Androids with the fact that Hirudegarn might actually be worse.

Maybe even a division of loyalties between protagonists with one of the two (probably Trunks) on the side of pitting the Androids against Hirudegarn and the other one backing The Devil You Know. That would be a great movie.

Okay, so they are talking about the disappointing ending. Can someone fill in the former casual DBZ fan on what said ending was again?

I believe it was something like "Goku finally powers up the SS 3 and kills Hirudegarn with the Dragon Fist", but I'm not sure.

[up][up]And, unlike Bulma, it is not like that name have ever appeared written as "Tolanks" or something (seriously, I am pretty sure the only reason everyone agrees with Bulma's name is because it appeared written on her first appearance).

Gokû is, in fact, a famous Japanese name, so it make sense to stick to that if you feel like it. It is not a made up name in which we have to guess what is intended pronunciation. Maybe you can argue the Japanese pronunciation is, itself, a mispronunciation of the Chinese name, but that would be Wukong, so it doesn't help much.

Bottom line is, there is no contradiction between sticking to the Japanese way to say some names while keeping it in English for others.

I do hear people insist on calling her Bloomers because it's the literal translation of the pun.

So the newest episode of Yu Gi Oh The Abridged Series is out, and has a rather hilarious gag referencing this series rather blatantly. I best not spoil it.

My headcanon about Future Trunks' sword is that it's some random sword he picked up from a destroyed weapons shop. I always prefer to say 'Blooma' instead of 'Bulma' because there's nothing even remotely funny about 'Bulma' and 'Blooma' keeps the pun and is still really close to 'Bulma'.
