Is it just me or is it kind of depressing that a film described as "poorly paced, often boring, garishly composed, oddly constructed, retreading cash-in on the series" got as high as it did? I mean... yeesh. Being put at #10 means that they considered that above average for a DBZ movie.
Just sorta sad.

Funny that they seemed to be praising the lower entries more. Several of them ended with something along the lines of "if you're a DBZ fan, give it a watch".
Maybe they're trying so hard to avoid Nostalgia Filter that they're overcompensating?

I mean, nevermind the average, the mode of this series's films is Broly.
With Cooler being second-place in that regard.
...Actually, the mode is probably Frieza, what with Bardock Father of Goku, Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, Fusion Reborn and Revival of F.
He tends to come back a lot.

I've always been under the impression that the common thought was that DBZ movies on a whole suck. Sure, you're going to have someone who leaves one in particular and maybe even a few that most people agree are good but the average for them is still pretty bad.
That's what it always seemed like to me anyway.
God, I didn't realise how much...dub...was in Legacy of Goku. From the very bat, they say Gohan is 6.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!![]()
On their own, I'd say they're at least as good as the series.
The animation's better, and the pacing is usually... well... you know.
Their biggest problems in my book is the Recycled Scripts and twisting my brain to try to see if there is any possible way to make them fit into canon. But not taking the series (and other movies) into account, I'd say they're at least on par with DBZ proper.

Hop on over to this page and add them.A retelling with a higher budget is a hell of a lot interesting that the standard boring Non-Serial Movie anime movie formula, it has a name but I forget what it is called. Seriously something different than
- introduce the main characters of doing something
- X new bad guy shows up
- X new bad guy does something bad to the hero
- X new bad guy gets ready to do something really bad
- X new bad guy wrecks the rest of the heroes
- The hero does something cool and wins
- Movie ends abruptly
Toei does this with almost every single movie they make, look at the Precure allstars movies, the first one they did a short that was only 15 min long and still had all the content of a standard DBZ movie.
There are few that go beyond that. Bojack for one follows the formula but adds so much to the arc before the villain appears. Others just have used their budget well and made it look pretty good.
The two specials do not follow the formula at all which is why I expect them to be number 1 and 2.
I like some of the films.
The first Broly film because of Broly's No-Holds-Barred Beatdown. and Pantera being in the soundtrack
. Cooler's Revenge because, well, who doesn't like Cooler? Against everyone else in this thread, I'm fond of Return of Cooler because the idea of Metal Cooler appeals to me, even if his origin is bit silly, and because Conservation of Ninjutsu was defied for the first and only time in a shonen series, when Cooler's army of Metal Coolers ganked Goku and Vegeta.
Dead Zone had an amazing fight sequence with the... Spice... Boys. World's Strongest had Roshi do something and Bulma in a short dress. Janemba I'm split on because other than Pikkon shouting, Gohan one-shotting Frieza, and Vegeta temporarily one-upping Goku, there's not many other gems in that film.
Hell, the third Broly film had 18, Goten, Trunks, and Krillin as the leads. That's neat. They should've done this more.
Everything else, meh. Fusion Reborn Wrath of the Dragon gets brownie points for having Super Dragon Fist and giving Trunks his sword, as much sense as that makes.
Battle of Gods... the final fight is great, the music is great. But Goku losing in the beginning of the film literally tells you everything you need to know. The Z-Fighters cannot win.
From best to worst:
- Broly
- Dead Zone
- Battle of Gods
- Cooler's Revenge
- Resurrection F
- World's Strongest
- Return of Cooler
- Janemba
- Bio-warrior Broly
- Everything else

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Huh, I am legitimately surprised (and happy) that Fusion Reborn has gotten as far as it did. That's my favorite movie (not counting specials and mostly because it was my first DBZ movie) and I was really worried that it was going to be savaged. Glad to see I was wrong. Unfortunately, I DO like Broly (the movie) so that was disappointing, but other than that, I've agreed with most everything they've said here.

This song needs more love.I realized the other day what about Kaiser and the Japanese names/pronunciations that bugged me.
It's not that he preferred the Japanese ones to the English ones, it's that he's very insistent that those are the right ones. And how in his episode breakdowns how he refers to the characters with names that aren't used in his own show.
There's no "goKOOO" in Dragon Ball Z Abridged, but there is a Goku.
That sort of thing.
Anyway, don't mind me, just rambling here.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI tend to think that English Dubs and Japanese source material are different series same as Power Rangers and Super Sentai or Transformers and Diaclone and Microman.
Not as drastic admittedly, but still.
...Is there anyone that's gotten obsessive and mad about Power Rangers and Transformers fans being "wrong" before?
Like, I'm sure there is, but.

Probably because he knows what most people are more familiar with...and it would be a weirdly abrupt change to just suddenly change it up so sudden.
Honestly, the guy can use whatever names and pronunciations he wants. It doesn't bother me at all and, aside from the "Fryza" joke (because, seriously, it's supposed to be "Freeza"), he keeps it out of the show like a professional.
That being said, anyone who refers to be Lord Beerus as "Bills" deserves whatever they get.

Lemme reverse that question on you: Why should he not use the pronunciations and names he prefers in a fun little side project?
