I like that Mr. Popo seems to be getting some character development, anyway. The "Bigger Bad Popo" thing stopped being funny a while ago.
Seriously, if I had a nickel for every "Popo absorbs Buu" speculation I've seen...

I doubt that'll happen. They were glad they shied away from repeating it in the History of Trunks thing, and the original scene is on DBZA's DMoS page.
Because everything is on the DMoS page somewhere. That's one of the pages smart people ignore.
D Mo S is purely opinion based anyways. What was a dethroning moment for some may not be one for others.
For example, I hate the ending to How I Met Your Mother, I wrote a D Mo S on that. Others will not agree, because that is purely my opinion on it.
Yeah, that's my main problem with the "Goku is a terrible father and Piccolo was a better one to Gohan" people act like Goku being away for a long time is just because he finds family boring when usually there is actually some justifiable reasoning for him being away. And then he comes back and still spends time with his family.
Like, I'm not going to call the guy father of the year, him not totally understanding the concept behind family is apparently Word of God, but acting like Piccolo is the best surrogate father ever is ridiculous.
I mean, yeah, once Goku could control Super Saiyan he probably should have come home.
They could have gathered the dragon balls and wished him back then.
...Or he could have teleported there. Because he learned that too.
Even if he couldn't sense anyone on Earth he could have done the thing where he used King Kai as a stopping point.
I guess Goku forgetting he can do that is actually a thing.
IIRC, the only times where Goku chose training over staying with his family in a situation where training wasn't strictly necessary was on Yardrat, where he stayed a few months to learn Instant Transmission, and at the end where he decided to ditch everybody to train Uub. Every other time made sense: "powerful evil beings are about to show up, if we don't train everybody is going to die" sort of things
He also "chose" to remain dead and to pass the torch after the Cell Saga, but that was a heartfelt meaningless gesture intended to help his friends move on, since the main characters didn't have easy means to bring him back at that point anyway - I recall that in the Cell Saga Dende tried to make them able to bring back people multiple times but screwed up somewhere between "resurrect as many people as possible" and "ressurect multiple times," resulting in the former but not the latter.
Toriyama only started saying "screw it" and having the Earth Dragonballs bring people back infinite times on as many people as you want in the Buu Saga, right?

I still maintain that.
Like, Goku was pissed when he fought Frieza.
He yelled at Gohan and told him to leave while Goku could still control himself.
We see what Gohan's like later when he goes Super Saiyan 2 the first time, and it's legitimately scary.
So I think the first few months on Yardrat, learning how to control Super Saiyan sorta make sense and were probably well spent.
...I like to imagine that Goku broke all of Yardrat's mountains. Maybe some of their moons.
...Staying to learn Instant Transmission after that though. Yeah, is a bit harder to justify.

Considering how practical IT is as a technique, I don't really blame him for wanting to learn that.
He probably guessed that situations where he'd have to teleport to save someone (like he did with Tien after the Neo Tri-Beam) would come up eventually.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI mean.
The thing with Saiyans, and Super Saiyans in particular, specifically new Super Saiyans that have just transformed and can't control it is that. They aren't just killers, they're fucking sadists. They don't just want you to die, they want to break you physically, emotionally and spiritually.
We see it when Goku lets Frieza power up, and when we see Vegeta let Cell absorb 18, and when we see Cell decide to host a tournament, and when we see Gohan playing with Cell and the Cell Jrs. and taunting Cell after he reverts to Semi-Perfect.
The thing with Super Saiyans that are controlled by their anger is that. They don't just want to kill you. They want you to suffer. They want you to feel the hopelessness and despair and regret that you've made them feel, and they will let you get as strong or as weak as you want because it will never be enough. They want you to realize that there is no escape for you, that your future from then on will be nothing but pain, and misery, and that you are powerless in the face of it.
Keep in mind that doesn't work out so well for Vegeta or Cell or Gohan. Hell, doesn't work out for Goku either. Frieza doesn't really do "contrite" to be honest.
...It's also worth noting that.
Like, there's a part where Gohan starts charging a beam at a Cell Jr. holding Krillin hostage, and. While the Cell Jr. leaves Krillin and Gohan kills it and Krillin gets out of it unscathed. I legitimately think Gohan would have killed Krillin there if the Cell Jr. had called his bluff for a few more seconds.
If Goku or Piccolo or Chichi or anyone had tried to stop Gohan while he was pummeling Cell. I don't think Gohan would have been pleased about it. For the rest of the fight everyone just sorta stands on the sidelines in no small part because they're all scared shitless of him. Like, there is a point in the fight after Cell spits up 18 where they're all worried about how Gohan is toying with Cell and not finishing him, but. None of them do anything about it. Goku, Vegeta and Trunks could have finished Semi-Perfect Cell right then and there, and Cell wouldn't have had the chance to self-destruct. But they're all scared of what Gohan might do to them if they get in his way.
All the mental control over the Super Saiyan transformation and its emotional state he'd developed just went out the window when Gohan ascended.
Controlling Super Saiyan was one of Goku's first priorities. He is able to transform at will by the time Trunks shows up, and he starts working on mastering the state completely in the time chamber.
And, I mean.
Personally I think that was a good call.
It'd suck to get back to Earth and then blow it up because you got rear-ended driving cars and got so mad you couldn't control yourself anymore.
Again, I want the characters to go to Yardrat at some point and have Goku apologize again for breaking all their mountains. And most of their moons. Maybe one of their suns. Most of their technology and cities.
I think, between Goku's uncontrolled Super Saiyan rage and his appetite, he may just have been the single worst thing to ever happen to the planet Yardrat. Not that he did it on purpose, but.

I really don't buy the whole "Super Saiyan is a berserker" thing. It seems like cause and effect are mixed up there. The new Super Saiyans are rage monsters because the rage monster-ness is part of the process of becoming a Super Saiyan. Goku and Gohan have always been Beware the Nice Ones with sides of Unstoppable Rage. The only difference is that they suddenly had the power to keep that going.
... and come on. Vegeta's behavior is no different from his normal behavior. Not to mention Trunks has displayed pretty much no berserker or arrogance like the others.

Aren't we about to get to the part where Goku turns down using the time chamber a second time in favor of relaxing with Chi Chi and Gohan instead? How are they gonna handle that?
