I violently hate it. It gave false hope to Tien's fans the Tien would be a powerful and awesome combatant after Namek. I suspect it singlehandedly spawned the Krillin v. Tien argument because the only reason anyone thinks Tien kept up during the Namek arc is that he defeated Jeice and Burter simultaneously.
EDIT: They went to Kaio-sama's in the manga, they just didn't fight the Ginyus or do anything else. And Yamcha's body vanished offscreen; Toei put in some filler about Bulma stashing the cast's bodies for safekeeping because, again, they didn't get that "keep your body" isn't a metaphor.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Bodies can be reconstructed by divine beings. That's why Goku didn't have a hole in his chest; because God repaired the damage when he bestowed it to him.
The same happened to Vegeta. His body was repaired and passed off to him, leaving no mortal remains on Earth.
When you keep your body, it disappears from the world, the damage is repaired, and your soul is put inside it.

The line between "Alive Guy" and "Bodied Dead Guy" is thin, but there are some distinctions. Corpses use less energy, for instance.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I think Cessation of Existence for double-death was in the manga. I could be wrong.
That "Keep your body" is literal is also why, when a bodied character is resurrected, the halo over them vanishes and then they have to walk home from the afterlife, while characters who didn't keep their bodies are revived wherever their corpse fell.
Toei screwed this up too by having all the humans training with Kaio-sama appear in Bulma's courtyard when their wishes were made.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Vegito can still fight even when he's fucking candy.
I don't think any normal rules apply to him.
Though now that you bring it up, I do wonder what would have happened if the Vegeta half of him ran out of time for his restored life while still fused.
One Strip! One Strip!Half a halo would have been amazing.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The only time I can remember the cessation of existence thing coming up in the show was when Buu showed up in the afterlife and fought Krillin, which I'm pretty sure was anime-only (I might be incorrect about that, though - I don't own the manga for Buu like I do Cell/androids)

IIRC, it came up when Vegeta was holding the line against Pure Buu. If Buu killed Vegeta, he would cease to exist.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Ah, alrighty then.
I think you're right about that. I do vaguely remember a bit where someone is leery about Vegeta joining in because of it in the show.
Also, I just realized that the last big fight in the series is going to involve the glorious return of the "imma chargin' my attack" gag. Awesome.

Also when he came to Earth to fight super Buu. I might be wrong, but I think it is stated he would vanish if he died in battle(which was supposed to be his fate, anyway). That same scene had Toriyama make a point to explain why Vegeta still had his body (Ema/Kaioh/someone kept if, just in case).

I mean, Piccolo seemed to think he could handle namek after his training, so it seems fine that the other trainees hit similar levels of power. They'd still be outclassed by everyone that came after, since the powerlevels are rising so rapidly by that point. Let them have their victory there.
Also I think you all make way too big a deal of those afterlife mechanics. So Toei fudged how some of the rules work, it's not like it really matters all that much.
Despite everything, Toriyama tried to be consistent with his story, so it sucks to see Toei to fuck it up. Furthermore, this is just some examples among many.
Btw, it was mentioned earlier, buy Bulma preserving the corpses was in the manga. Maybe Toiei screwed the timeline a bit, but the reason Goku moved his fight with Vegeta was precisely to avoid damaging the corpses. I think it is mentioned Bulma gathered them up after the fight. This used to be the standard procedure. But, by that point Kami started getting involved, so the corpses were preserved through divine magic anyway(even Chaos').

It might be a bit nonsensical, but I liked that filler fight. Gives the humans a victory at least.
Ok, who let Light Yagami in here?
