Yeah. and then he actually remembered who Beerus was, and that helped.
For a given definition of helping.
One Strip! One Strip! He is now fully in the Tsundere department and the show exploits it now for comedy., a good thing.
Anyway @ the Chi Chi thing on last page, her craziness with Gohan and then carefree attitude with Goten is very very Japanese, the first born kid is the one that always must succeed and such. It's rather insane on how much pressure gets put on them compared to other siblings in traditional families. Gohan was a product of social pressure, Goten was a product of what she liked to have which Goku being dead probably had a big effect on.

That...actually gives a lot of things context.
Wanna bet that's why the firstborn Raditz got to train as a warrior and the younger Kakarot was sent off to some unknown planet? Oooohhhh, the irony.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI could see TFS make a gag out of it.
Vegeta: So Idiot, how did you convince Whis to train you as well?
Goku: I asked him and he said yes.
Vegeta: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I got the distinct sense that Raditz wanted Kakarot to join them.
And that's why he told him to kill a bunch of humans.
So Kakarot wouldn't be punished for being a complete fuck-up.
Getting Kakarot was literally the only reason Raditz was there.
I mean, combined with the fact that Nappa wanted to wish Raditz back and was shocked when Vegeta shot that idea down, and how mad Nappa was at Kakarot for being a traitor, there's the distinct sense that Raditz and Nappa, at least, had a sort of camaraderie going.
It's worth remembering that Vegeta was evil by Saiyan standards.

Nappa still wanted him back at first.
There are a lot of points in the manga where Nappa is shocked by how much of a dick Vegeta is.
Vegeta's complete dismissal of Raditz as a comrade is one of them.
...On a different note, it's mentioned that Saibamen are stronger based on the soil they're grown in, and apparently the Saibamen on Earth were really damn good Saibamen.
So there's that.

Why Chi-Chi hates Martial Arts
My understanding is that she doesn't, really. She hates the fact that her husband doesn't do anything else. He doesn't work or socialize or have a life outside of it. He's the martial arts equivalent of those people who get so into World of Warcraft that they stop doing anything else and just live out their entire lives in the game, or those hunters whose entire life is hunting and nothing but hunting matters, or those bodybuilders who can't think of a single conversation topic outside how much you can lift, or anyone else who lets their hobby become their identity. Ultimately, it's not really about the hobby.
Chi-Chi looks at Goku and she sees a man completely defined by his hobby. She looks at his friends and she sees more losers who never built a life outside their hobby. Tien is nothing but martial arts. Yamcha is nothing but martial arts and a failing relationship with Bulma. Krillin is nothing but martial arts (until 18 comes around, anyway). As far as she's concerned, they aren't functioning members of society, they're Goku's WoW guild - each one as addicted as he is.
And then she looks at Gohan and fears he's in danger of becoming a loser like them, and she does everything in her power to keep that from coming true. Chi-Chi doesn't hate martial arts, she just wishes Goku and his friends would get a life or, at the very least, that they would not rub off on Gohan. She has dreams and aspirations for Gohan and doesn't want him getting sucked into the life-sinking vortex of his father's lifestyle, so she blames the hobby and tries to keep him away from it.
That too. Gohan is the golden child, the one who must carry on the family legacy. She eased off on Goten because she already had her perfect scholarly son.
So did Goku, in fact. We're never given any impression that he tried even half as hard to make Goten into the successor that so much time and energy was devoted to with Gohan. Outside of trying to get Gotenks to defeat Buu, we're left with the impression in both the epilogue and Super that while Goku has given up on Gohan following in his footsteps, he never even really tried to get Goten to.
Shame, really. Goten seems much more receptive than Gohan was at his age.
And that's why he told him to kill a bunch of humans.
So Kakarot wouldn't be punished for being a complete fuck-up.

I got that impression too. It honestly feels like They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character by just killing off Raditz and Nappa but giving Vegeta, the absolute worst of the lot, the chance for redemption. We kept the wrong Saiyan.

Before someone says "filler", that was actually suggested by Toriyama despite not being in the manga.
Tien's a farmer. And was going to be an assassin.
Yamaha is either a bodyguard or a baseball player. Depending on filler and what Toriyama remembers or makes up on the spot.
Krillin. Um.
...Huh. Until Super he didn't have a job. He just sorta lived at Kame House.
...How the hell did Roshi pay the bills? Like, the island has electricity and cable. How?
Like, is King Furry going to send the army after him for stealing cable and tax evasion?
I mean, Chichi's a princess. She planned the marriage and decided where they lived. She even had their house built.
They could have been living in her dad's palace.
Ox King's a martial artist. There are ways to make money as a martial artist.
Hercule is a martial artist and he's loaded.
In Super, Chichi is pissed at the idea of Pan learning martial arts because of how much she hates them.

I feel safe assuming that Chichi would look down on that too. Going pro at sports or writing or something like that isn't a "real" career in the eyes of people like her but a pipe dream most people luck into.
Which is probably right but that doesn't necessarily devalue the effort put into it. It would in her eyes, though, I think.

There are ways to make money as a martial artist but Goku and his friends don't do any of them outside the Tenkaichi Budokai, which he stopped attending after they married. I'm sure she'd be less negative if Goku had ever turned his fighting into a career. She certainly shut right up about the Tenkaichi Budokai in the Buu arc once the prize money was brought into the discussion, and Goku - under Goten's advisement - was very careful about showing Chi-Chi the money he got from Mr. Satan before asking to go train at Kaio-sama's in Super, a request she had no objection to.
Most hobbies can be monetized. I'm sure she would be fine with Goku's if he ever actually bothered to monetize it.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Exactly. The Son household is a sinking ship. It was only ever afloat on the Ox King's money and by the time Super comes around, there's nothing left to support it. It's been bleeding money like a sieve for years, all while Goku runs off to pursue dreams and ambitions that pay approximately none of the bills.
Chi-Chi is understandably frustrated by this.

The fact that he can't surpass Goku has really destroyed Vegeta's pride, hasn't it?
