Yep. Broly was a solution to a plot hole that never actually existed in the first place.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Broly was a solution to the plot hole of "Why was it that Super Saiyans stopped becoming ruthless and evil by instinct?"
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!I just rewatched Christmas Tree of Might, as I do every year, and when it got to the Black Comedy bit about Rudolph, my train of thought completely derailed when I realized — he flies and uses something that could very well be a ki technique.
My mind's going silly places. He's one of the first characters I ever really liked, so the mental image of him possibly training to become one of the most powerful beings on Earth made me chuckle.
Just a random thought. A dumb one, but hey.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — Ultimatepheer...well, they made a 16 singing "Let it Go" joke.
They clearly think the same way as we do.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!...dammit, now the concept of Martial Artist Rudolph is gonna be in my head for a while. :p
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerThat sounds a lot like an SCP Foundation thing, but with dinosaurs.

what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseRudolph with Ki blasts? DBZ and Christmas? A character getting hit in the scrotum and using in-universe euphemisms to refer to it? Robot Chicken's got you covered.

He'd have to be as strong as he is in the short in the Abridgedverse anyway to have (presumably, due to Santa still being active) survived against the Crusher Corps, even if he didn't win. Though come to think of it, knowing just how bad DBZ injuries can get, that scene actually gets even darker now that I imagine the poor guy fruitlessly fighting back, yikes...
With that in mind, along with Piccolo/Goku's power levels being the strongest on Earth during Raditz' arrivalnote , I'd gauge Abridged!Rudolph's power level to be in the 150-200 range if I had to take a wild guess.
Ah, power levels, can't have a DB-iscussion without em.

"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerI don't care if they don't use it in the actual episode, I want a full version of 16 singing "Let it Go".

Hey, do you guys think I should make a general Team Four Star thread for things like their non-Dragon Ball LPs and their Top 10 lists and whatnot? I'd really like to discuss their latest Top 10 video but it's rather off topic.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book![[quoteblock]]With that in mind, along with Piccolo/Goku's power levels being the strongest on Earth during Raditz' arrivalnote , I'd gauge Abridged!Rudolph's power level to be in the 150-200 range if I had to take a wild guess.[//quoteblock]]Are the power levels in this series really that much lower than the original? Canon Raditz has a power level higher than 1200.
He doesn't. He did against Vegeta, before he'd actually tried it in combat, and against Freeza he was desperate.
When Vegeta brings it up against Boo, Goku is dumbfounded that he thinks it will work until Vegeta brings up the idea of having people donate their energy directly to it.
The Broli movie does nothing to reference the "once in 1000 years" line. That came from the Western releases, and Western fanbase, taking the mistranslated line and applying it to Broli in order to fix that supposed Plot Hole.
The original movie doesn't really outline why Broli is "The Legendary Super Saiyan. Reportedly, the idea at Toei Animation was to have a Super Saiyan with a unique genetic mutation, which hilariously makes him less likely to be the "true" Super Saiyan if he's just some new kind of being.
The US haven't made anything except video games and Evolution. Shit video games and Evolution. I've heard people say that about Broli, Bardock, GT and even Z. It's all lies.
The power levels are unchanged. Even Raditz's. Goku and Piccolo's power levels at the start of Z were just over 300 apiece. That's why they were pushed into using a self-sacrifice against him, remember?

Toei pulled Broly out of their butts.
