Dammit Goku! You were doing so well too!
Krillin glumly realizing that 18 is probably on that Island cracked me up.
Everything else damned near killed me! Vegeta, as always, is priceless, and Cell literally talking out his ass is gonna go down as unbeatable Crowning Moment Of Funny.
One Strip! One Strip! What in the episode gave people the impression that Gohan didn't like Krillin?
Anyway, the Genre Savvy jokes were strong in this one. Krillin's resignation about the androids being on the island, Trunks immediately realizing that Vegeta's about to screw everything up before Vegeta even seems to know it, even Vegeta himself got some moments in there.
I just watched the episode. It's everything you guys said it was and more!

My guess is that there's a minimum power level requirement.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!If anger was the only trigger needed for becoming a Super Sayajin than both Gohan and Goku would have transformed long ago. Goku back the first time Kuririn died and Gohan after Piccolo was killed. I assume there is some minimum power level required or something like that. Gohan simply wasn't there yet back then.

That is the out of story reason, though.

Well yeah, we know this.
These guys are making jokes, but the point is, despite being far stronger at age 5 then all the Z Warriors were at the same age, Gohan was nowhere near strong enough to become a Super Saiyan. He was still lacking that last bit of power.
One Strip! One Strip!Well, a wise man once said life is a game of inches.
A few million inches in this case, but who's counting?

One Strip! One Strip!Isn't the minimum power level to go Super Saiyan 100,000 according to Toriyama? It makes sense that next to no Saiyans would be able to go Super Saiyan most of the time if that's the case. I don't know if it's dub only, but Goku does say the transformation comes in response to a need, not a desire. Plus Gohan was kind of too busy freaking out after Piccolo got hit and Krillin died to get pissed and transform like Goku and Vegeta was too busy being full of himself and then dead to transform on Namek.
I dunno, that sounds more arbitrary than usual. I'm just going to stick with Goku's three million for the baseline.
Besides, if you were right then I believe Vegeta would have gone Super Saiyan at some point during the Namek Saga. When he found out that Gohan stole his Dragon Ball, perhaps.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The fight only really started for real this episode. And next episode is going to be about Cell trying to get 18.
Apparently, they're going to be abridging Super Android 13 before Ep 51, though.
Which is fine by me. The movies are when they can literally throw out whatever jokes they feel like. So they're always entertaining.
Anyway, back to the most important topic in this threat - Was Goku a jerk in this episode? I'd say he wasn't so bad this time. And Gohan was talking about how he was sort of enjoying their training together, at least before Goku shot a Kamehameha at him. So maybe they WILL resolve their issues before they get out.
And....man...Vegeta is so quotable when he starts getting cocky. Which is, like, most of the time. I don't even like canon!Vegeta that much, but I like Abridged!Vegeta.

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!I'd say Goku was a bit silly and forgot Gohan was on Namek at first, which makes sense since he was very single mindedly focused on beating Freeza in his flashback and telling Gohan about it. The Kamehameha part at the end was him taking the being serious about training part too seriously, but overall he's been a half-decent dad this episode and complimented Gohan's attempt at trying to go Super Saiyan and explained how to do it to him.
I think their issues (Well Gohan's issues, Goku's kind of oblivious to them at the moment) will get resolved in the chamber though or at least get most of the way there.

I love the ending to this one. Just the perfect note to end on.
Oh God! Natural light!
