They can't not have Dende become God. They would have to change too much in order to make Shenron permanently gone for the rest of the series.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't see the point in complaining about their being no point in the Krillin Butt-Monkey jokes when the point is exactly the same as with the Yamcha Butt-Monkey jokes.
And they've toned them down towards Krillin because Yamcha is around more but they never said they would stop. I still don't see why anyone would think they would.
It'd be empty drama anyway because New Namek exists. There's just no point to not having Dende become the new God.
I'm expecting Popo to either be killed by Majin Buu or be revealed to be Majin Buu or a part thereof. Something that brings the All-Powerful Popo gag to a close.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't think they're going to bring that gag to a close. They'll probably dance around it, have Popo leave the Lookout beforehand like "You maggots are on your own. Byyye!"
Popo's screentime has been diminishing gradually anyway so I don't think there's any need to really retire the joke, just spread it thinner and do other stuff with him, like him dropping a gallon of LSD or missing Kami.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The "Mr. Popo is stronger that everyone in the cast" joke is fine as long as the majority of the cast is actually still weaker than him. By the time the Buu Saga rolls around Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta should be the only characters on the side of good not taking any of his shit.
The real problem is extending the joke to "Mr. Popo is stronger that everyone in the series" because then the jokes feel dumb.

Actually, Mr. Popo was the weakest member of the cast (aside from maybe Yajirobe) by the time the fight with Nappa rolled around.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!He was also weaker than God in his first appearance, surpassed by Goku at the 23rd Budokai, and then surpassed by everyone who showed up to fight the Saiyans except Chaozu.
So that only really applied to training the humans for the first time. Even that battle power of 1,039 Popo is given is more than likely referring to his battle power after training the humans, which is in line with the other battle powers given in Shonen Jump.
So TFS probably aren't basing their depiction of Popo of anything other than the joke. Predicting when it would stop is a bit pointless seeing as it was accurate for all of one scene and then stuck around.

There is a very specific scene I've been waiting for since that gag started, that I am almost positive is the source of it. After Vegeta blows himself up, in the anime's filler, Goten and Trunks wake up on the Lookout and think they've been kidnapped, so they power up to Super Saiyan and try to escape. During this, they attack Popo and he has to parry attacks from both of them simultaneously, which he does.
Given how powerful Popo actually is, they should have made short, effortless work of him, but in this filler scene, we see him able to keep up with the two diminutive Super Saiyans. Thus, I believe the all-powerful Popo gag stems from the fact that he's been a Buu-Saga powerful character all this time.
But by that point, Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan should have caught up to him. We've already seen shades of it, as Goku is no longer as terrified of Popo as he once was and actually exclaims, "WHEEEEE!" when Popo pounds him off the Lookout. This is a far cry from his screaming panic attack when Popo visited him in the hospital.

People keep bringing up that scene but I really don't think that was the inspiration either. Given that, despite it still being a massive outlier of a feat for him, he's still freaking the fuck out while parrying the boys.
Really weird to base his portrayl off that, even if theoretically to parry those he'd have to be much stronger than earlier characters.
He's totally freaking the f*ck out, but he's still doing it despite it being so far outside his capabilities. Like, if Vegeta went all-out at Kame-sennin and Kame-sennin blocked every punch Vegeta lobbed at him, even if he was screaming at the top of his lungs while doing so, would this not be an impossibly impressive feat?
The reason this happened is because the anime writers didn't always care much for consistency when writing filler scenes, but I will be genuinely shocked if Team Four Star has no plans to use this moment.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Apparently, TFS accepted the fan theory that Popo is Dumplin who traveled to the past and stayed there.
Not that this is all that relevant....
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseWell, they said that Mr. Popo is Dumplin before. Quite a while ago, in fact.

And I've already mentioned that Goku could easily just jump straight to New Namek.
It's possible but it's not a given.
