Trunks' power level eclipsed Cell's as a SSJG 3, but he was too slow to get a hit in. That means Grade 3 would've had to have a boost greater than 100x since Trunks is weaker than Gohan.
"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."Something I've been wondering for awhile; did Trunks actually surpass Vegeta in his bulky form and Vegeta just knew better not to go there or could Vegeta bulk up like that too and Trunks really wasn't stronger than him, on top of Vegeta being smarter? I've been assuming the latter but I'm not totally sure.

I've always assumed Vegeta could do the whole super bulky thing too but was smart enough to know the trade off in speed wasn't worth it.
Hell I'd even go as far as to say Vegeta could probably go Super Saiyan 3 but doesn't because he thinks the massive energy drain isn't worth the relatively minor power jump over Super Saiyan 2.

Vegeta, like Goku, immediately saw the weaknesses in the form and didn't bother with it. Trunks being inexperienced made him use it.
Vegeta and Trunks trained separately. Goku and Gohan actually training together is why their gains were so much better.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."There's this point in Battle of the Gods where Vegeta flips out and Beerus, I think, says that in that moment he was stronger than Goku. Pretty sure Goku even says the same thing later. This, despite the fact that Vegeta was clearly NOT a super Saiyan 3, even though that would have been the perfect time for him to unlock SS3.

I think you mean Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan 3.

Cell mentions that Trunks was pretty strong as a Grade III, and could have beaten him maybe if not for how slow it was.
