What Tien does is cool. It's ultimately completely pointless but it's cool.
When Trunks realized that Cell was about to bait Vegeta into letting him achieve his Perfect Form, he should have immediately appealed to Vegeta so that he could fight and finish Semi-Perfect Cell. You know, something like this:
"Hey, dad, mind if I have a go at him? It's obvious that he's no match for you and I want to see what I can do."
That might have worked.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!If the Cell-16 fight and Tien's upcoming bit shows anything, it's that DBZ is filled with a lot of moments where someone does totally awesome, but it contributes so little that they might as well had slapped the villain instead.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.
Which is exactly what Bulma does in Battle of Gods and it contributes just as much as everyone else.
I mean, I find it difficult to fault Krillin morally for not being willing to kill someone that was scared and isolated and not directly hurting anybody.
Were his motivations entirely altruistic? No, probably not. His attraction to 18 was a factor. Not the only factor, but a factor.
...I feel like the abridged version will have Vegeta let 18 be absorbed partly out of spite for earlier. Because it'd be a neat character thing. Vegeta is actually that petty.

Okay. What Tien does isn't pointless, nor is Cell vs 16. Ignoring Krillin and Vegeta, if Tien hadn't done that thing then Cell would have achieved his Perfect Form a lot sooner and thus would have likely started wrecking everything and killing everyone long before Vegeta and Trunks came around. Remember that the only thing that made Cell decide to hold the Cell Games was his fight with Trunks.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!If I recall correctly, the only reason he thought of the Cell Games in the first place was due to how disappointing his fight with Trunks was and his fascination with Trunks' and Vegeta's rapid increase in power. Without that fight, who knows what Cell would have done if he had absorbed 18 shortly after absorbing 17.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I'm honestly looking forward to the next few episodes. If TFS excels in one thing, it's making headcanons that are surprisingly believable. They're not ones for mindless character bashing. (Well, not really). If a character does something stupid in canon, TFS comes up with some rather interesting ways to justify them.
See, poorer writers would just joke about how Krillin wants to get into 18's pants, and that's the only reason why he isn't going to shut her down. But I think TFS has been building up to Krillin's moral dilemma with killing a person who really hasn't done anything evil yet. He's not just blinded by infatuation.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! Also, I hope next episode tones it down with the Cell molester jokes. Especially considering it gets REALLY creepy with 18. I know TFS has a crude sense of humour sometimes, but...I dunno. There are some jokes they could make that I don't think I'd find funny.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! You'd probably hate Hellsing Ultimate Abridged.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I actually don't mind it, surprisingly. I think it works better there. Hellsing Ultimate turns everything Up To Eleven. Why not do that with the adult humour, too?
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! And if Krillin
had just deactivated 18, Cell wouldn't be a problem.
... and since everyone was stronger than him, he'd be easily taken care of.
... see how that works?
"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."

I mean, 18's not a direct threat herself anymore, and her energy can't be sensed so hiding her is actually fairly damn easy.
If Vegeta had just killed Cell it wouldn't even have been a problem.
