Vegeta I can kinda understand but when and how did Dr. Gero get Frieza's DNA? He didn't even know of Namek until the Z Fighters told him.
"Seriously, the f*ck is Namek?!"
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The computer was all like "you gonna eat those smouldering bits of alien? Dibs."
Also, in Cell's timeline the battle probably took slightly longer unless Goku was feeling particularly curbstompy that day and decided to drop the inevitable "I'll give you one last chance to stop this now and survive with what little you have left yadda yadda" spiel that - being Goku - he more than likely would have made otherwise, since Trunks wasn't there to be all pragmatic and end it as fast as possible. So it might've had even more opportunity to study and/or take samples from Freeza.
Then again, he might have just taken care of Freeza immediately like he did with Recoome and (if I'm remembering correctly) Nappa. You never know with that Goku guy.

Goku knocked out those two guys rather than kill them. According to Goku logic, that's already giving them a second chance.
My guess is that Goku would've stomped Mecha-Freezer, since that's the one guy who pushed Goku's buttons into not giving second chances to his enemies anymore. Goku didn't think of doing it with Cell or Yakon, and when he did it with Buu, it was via reincarnation.
I'm saying no. With the tail dead, it's no longer producing any midichlorians blutz-wave hormones, and so would revert
GERO: Blood spatter here, skin sample there, I think this might be a piece of Goku's ear. What else is there—oh my god, is that an entire tail?! Oh, it's Christmas!

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The one that butts in when Nappa or Raditz is in the middle of a sale and has almost hooked you with his earnestness and straightforward attitude, to be like, "THIS is how you make a sale," and then is so aggressive, full of himself, and blatantly taking advantage of you that it pisses you off and you walk out the door.
Then he goes to the others and is like, "That was YOUR fault because YOU'RE a bad salesman."

Because he wants to, would be my guess.
Frieza is powerful enough to take whatever he damned well pleases. Having no possible needs that can't be fulfilled without consequence by brute force, Frieza exists in a world of nothing but wants. So with that in mind, why run the planet trade business? He probably enjoys it.
Why not just be emperor of the universe? That's a lot of responsibility. Why be a king for real when you can live like one instead?

Well being real, there were moments at which Shenron was among the most powerful beings on the planet. Would be hard to harvest, though, but apparently they got some Vegeta and Frieza cells in the short time they were there...
