I loved this special, it had that odd twist of sad and funny that I was hoping for. 17 and 18 were the right level of evil but funny and it was worth the wait.

I like they used Vegeta's scream, but as a whole I just couldn't find much humor in this. History of Trunks is one of the darkest movies/specials, so there really wasn't much wiggle room for the team.

On another note, I've always wondered, especially after seeing the end credits: why do the team always refer to each other by their internet handles?

I love how excited 18 sounds about the rides in the theme park.

That's kinda funny.

The Androids Cyborgs and Bulma were the best part.

...I mentioned this in the other thread, but in a TV special thing, "Yo, Son Goku and his Friends Return!", 18 says she can "sense two powerful ki levels approaching" so. So that's a thing. She explicitly can't do that in the original movie and the original Android/Cell Saga. I think Saiga mentioned Krillin teaching her that. Somehow.

And wow I love the Doctor Who theme/Cha-La Head Cha-La remix mashup thing.

I liked it. I think a mix of the bleak and comical was needed, and sets it apart in a different way.

Also, there's worse people out there to hook up with than Bulma. ...Though that number is rapidly dwindling.

Bulma hitting on Gohan was hilariously uncomfortable.

I have a gallows sense of humor for the most part, so the Future Gohan stuff really doesn't bother me. Liked him reflecting on his childhood and admitting to Trunks that things really weren't better before the Androids attacked.

The humour was dark enough to help express how profoundly fucked and tragic the situation was. It was pretty much Sad Clown.wmv.

Why didn't Bulma make the time machine a two-seater?

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.

Probably because making a time machine that worked at all took all her engineering prowess, and subtle physics issues put limitations on the amount of passenger space there can be. Like how manned spacecrafts are an order of magnitude harder to design than unmanned ones in real life.

Loved that they also addressed the Fridge Logic on why they didn't just simply go to New Namek. tongue

I've not watched it yet, but I assume it has something to do with nobody knowing how to get there?

I mean, the only reason Goku could find the place was by using Instant Transmission to go to King Kai's place and use him as a KI-sending signal booster.

I have a message from another time...

Well, this is probably a good point to say how the manga chapter that later had a anime special that this is based on actually goes:

  1. The story starts with Future Trunks as a Super Saiyan training with Future Gohan.
  2. Gohan has already lost his arm and the Senzu Beans are already all gone.
  3. The city nearby explodes so Gohan goes SS and knocks Trunks out when he wants to go fight the Androids (since he thinks he's strong enough now) so that he doesn't die if the upcoming fight goes bad.
  4. 18 wants to go to the more populated North to kill more people but 17 thinks they would get bored when everyone is dead and wants to do it slowly.
  5. 18 says they should play the "run people down with cars" game again right before 17 gets kicked in the head and launched into rubble(ruining his outfit which he complains about since good clothes are hard to find) by Gohan revealing himself.
  6. 17 and 18 last fought Gohan a year before when he lost his arm to them.
  7. Gohan says he's far stronger now right before 17 states that he'd only used less than half of his power last time before charging at Gohan. 18 starts laughing and the story cuts away. The fight isn't seen.
  8. Trunks wakes up hours later and finds Gohan's dead body. This causes him to scream and cry.
  9. 3 years later Trunks watches his mother work on the Time Machine before flying off to fight the Androids after hearing about it on the radio.
  10. 5 days later Trunks is in a hospital after barely escaping alive from the Androids.
  11. Bulma gives Trunks Goku's medicine and waves him off when he leaves for the past.
The story is told between the chapters where Mr. Satan is thrown out of the ring in the Cell Games and Goku vs. Cell starting.

Yep. The gag is Dr. Briefs took a ship out to space, but New Namek is in a completely new location so he can't find it.

[up][up] The Androids are actually after Cell. In case anyone was wondering.

They did weird things with the order.

No I don't think that's a spoiler, or if it is, it's one that doesn't actually spoil much.

I mean.

I liked how there was a Father-Sons Kamehameha with Cell and the Cell Jrs. That was cool.

I basically like everything in Xenoverse involving or tangentially related to Hercule.

Seems like the guys agree with me on that.

Saw History of Trunks. Loved it, especially the end credits music which is a mix of the Doctor Who theme and Cha-La Head-Cha-La.

HERCULE TOO STRONK!

So.

According to the comments. By someone named Keile. And I can't link to comments, but.

Hercule is considered very powerful for a normal, non Ki using, human. There is a REASON he does not use Ki-based attacks, however. He is more than capable of doing so, but in the past his mentor was KILLED by a Ki-using fighter so he swore off all Ki attacks after seeing how much damage they could do.

Basically: Hercule is just under Yamcha in strength, if only because he doesn’t embrace Ki attacks.

So I'm curious, and wondering if someone Saiga can answer: is that actually a thing?

[up][up]One of the new things Toriyama revealed. Satan's master was killed by a man he and Satan made fun of in a bar(they found his hair funny). The man was Taopaipai.
