Well, I didn't entirely fall for it...

Oh God! Natural light!I read the white text in the same tone of voice as, "The hammer is my penis."

Yep, I first learned of hbi2k from Berserk Abridged. It was good and got me into the real series but I liked Gantz more because he had a bit more technical know-how. Berserk Abridged was great because hbi2k has an amazing sense of humor but you can tell he was just learning about editing and all that kinda stuff.
And oh man...Naruto Abridged. It was fairly popular for its day but I think a lot of people look back on it rather poorly.
The ultimate Reality Subtext. I like it.
I liked Vegeta well enough but I don't watch abridged series as much as I used to. i only watch TFS and Gantz or Berserk Abridged. There was this really cool lady, Cassius614, who used to do a "Best Abridged Countdown" thing way the fuck long ago. She also provided the female voices in hbi2k's Gantz Abridged since he recognized his female voices were...lacking. But anyway, back then, I used to watch a ton of abridged series because, while YGO and Naruto Abridged were the "kings", they had inspired so many others. New abridged series popped up all the time.
But since then, TFS has eclipsed pretty much all of them. Or maybe I just don't pay attention anymore. Cassius stopped doing her countdowns.
I watch SAO Abridged, they do a fun take on the original. And, Takahata101 voices the villain. And while I liked Berserk Abridged, I had trouble getting into it. Perhaps because what the original dubbers did for outtakes was so hilarious.

Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenOnly abridged series I watched back in the day was Yugioh. Then I eventually started watching this one, and this is practically my only one now, especially since Yugioh Abridged rarely updates.
There are no better outtakes
than Samurai Deeper Kyo.
if you guys feel confused about how time travelling worked in DBZ,you guys should play Yu-No,which uses a similar concept of time travelling, where you end up creating new timelines/alternate universes instead of erasing them if you change something in the past. The plot gets pretty confusing as it progress to the mind screw levels, but it is one of the best visual novels of all time
Technically, my first Abridged Series was The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged, but that's a stage performance, not a You Tube show. Overall, I never really got into the Abridged Series craze. I tried a few, but too many punchlines were, "Man, this show is utter horseshit!"
I liked Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged at first, but when Lani transitioned from exaggerating personalities for the purpose of making jokes to straight-up inventing new ones with the Four Saint Beasts, it lost its appeal for me.
What I really like about Dragon Ball Abridged is that it's affectionate. Few of the jokes rely on the show being awful; they highlight some of the weaker and sillier elements, but there is a clear sense of appreciation for its existence inherent in the work. It doesn't feel as mean-spirited as other Abridged Series do.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I've never gotten into any other than DBZ abridged and Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged. Well, and Hellsing abridged, but that's only a few episodes.
Parody is almost always sharpest when coming from a fan. Someone intimately familiar with the material who knows where the real absurdity in the series rests. People who are just trying to mock something they think sucks are usually going to go for the most obvious surface elements, and a lot of times they wind up with something that has little resemblance to what they're mocking. Non-DBZ fans are going to make a few jokes about how long the characters stand around screaming if you're lucky. If not, you're going be seeing a parody of the few bits of Sailor Moon and Speed Racer that the author can remember seeing in commercials with Goku pasted over it. Real fans give us stuff like riffing on how awful a father Goku is, or how bad Yamcha sucks. "Oh no, Yamcha's been Yamcha'd!" is something you'll never get from someone trying to get a cheap laugh saying that the show sucks.
Hell, Toriyama wrote a better parody of DBZ with Trunks and Goten than most others I've seen.

I wonder if Little Kuriboh regularly did any abridged series before he was Frieza...
The joke is that Yugioh Abridged was never regular.
