Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenI'll admit, I screamed at the end. Damn, these guys are good. Both TFS and the Silent Hill guys.
Oh God! Natural light!"Worked better than I expected" sums this video up nicely. Who thought Nappa/Krillin would make a good LP combo?
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI recently watched the Silent Hills teaser trailer.
Is it just me, or does the voice at the beginning sound a lot like Brad Jones?
Oh God! Natural light! So I was thinking about how I've always kinda liked Supreme Kai BUT he gets pretty much no respect. Piccolo says in no uncertain times Supreme Kai is stronger than he is but everyone online keeps falling aLl over themselves to make dumb excuses. "Oh what he MEANT was that Supreme Kai is God of the Universe, not that he was actually more powerful." Oh shut up, the dialogue is unambiguous and it was even clarified in one of the Daizenshuus.
Anyway, I think the reason the guy gets no respect is because he spends most of the Buu Saga going "eep! Pui-Pui! Eeep, Yakon1 Eeep, Dabura!" People think he's a sniveling wimp. But you know, when Buu was actually released, Supreme Kai stood up to him best he could. he fared about as well as Gohan (ie. he lost immediately) but what's that expression about "bravery doesn't mean you aren't afraid but rather that you face what you are afraid of." Something like that. Supreme Kai did that.
Anyway, I was thinking on that and I was wondering how TFS will characterize him. I wonder if they are going to wimpify him or maybe go the complete opposite route and try to make him super-cool and badass. Or maybe just apathetic.
Well, to be blunt, being stronger than Piccolo during the Buu saga meant about as much as being stronger than Hercule. So that's why everyone laughs at him. He comes in with all this dignity and mystique, and he's fucking worthless.
My various fanfics. He's also kind of an idiot, but that's mostly not his fault - it's the retcons Toriyama made to make Goku the hero again. After the retcons to Boo's backstory it meant he knew a hell of a lot more than what he told the heroes, including Boo's ability to absorb people which is a pretty big deal.
I doubt Abridged will be kind to him. One, Yamcha and Kuririn won't be around much. Two, he's already got a bad reputation and Abridged will likely want to follow that. I also expect the Piccolo thing to be glossed over or ignored somehow.
Then again, Tien has been just as worthless since the Saiyan saga and he's managed to avoid Butt-Monkey status.
There's also the fact that pretty much all the heroes besides Goku, Vegeta and their respective children get downgraded to jobber status by the Buu Saga.

No beer?! But if there's no beer, then there's no beef or beans!Plus, Tien doesn't really go out of his way to show off how weak in comparison he is - in fact he's barely in the plot.
Supreme Kai is trying to lead a crusade against a force that gets really out of his depth, with soldiers who are much more capable than he is. What is initially introduced as his fight against his archenemy and his ultimate weapon gets immediately hijacked by the heroes while he gets shunted to the sides, and at times it comes off as him not entirely knowing what he's doing. The fact that no matter what he still tries is something really I like about his character, but it's definitely something easy to zero in on for being a Butt-Monkey in parody.

This is true.
I'm both looking forward to this one, and dreading it, as I've come to have a love/hate relationship with the Butt-Monkey trope as of late.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah, I'm not expecting Team Four Star to be kind to him either.
Tien gets to avoid Butt-Monkey status by being The Straight Man; the joke of his character is that there isn't a joke. This works for Tien because, despite being no more valuable to the conflicts the cast encounters than Yamcha from Saiyans onward, Tien doesn't really call attention to it, spending most of his screentime just sort of being there while other characters are doing stuff.
He's a good sarcastic commenter because he's not actively getting his ass kicked, cowering in terror, or decimating the enemy for most of his appearances.
Kaioshin doesn't have that. He spends much of his screentime commenting on how incredible and amazing the Saiyans are, or how unstoppable a horror Majin Buu is. He's out of his league with nearly every character he interacts with; his entire role in the plot is to get the CRAZY AWESOME GUYS he could never compete with to fight the other CRAZY AWESOME GUYS he could never compete with. Team Four Star are probably going to be brutal with him.
Note that I'm not saying Kaioshin's a bad character or anything like that. Just that he is positioned perfectly to be the new Krillin/Yamcha when the Buu Saga rolls around.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I always though the Supreme Kai was alright, but even when I was younger it was always clear that he was incredibly out of his league. He's the guy who at the start has the most idea what the threat is but comes to the Saiyans because there's no way in hell he could ever do it himself. Then again, it always felt kind of intentional in a sense, and I may or may not be remembering details wrong.
Why does everyone call Earth a backwater planet these days? They used to think we were hot shit back in the 50's and 60's.
True, though it's not like there aren't other planets like that in the universe.
One Strip! One Strip!

Only trope page I can find is some non-English page. I guess PT is a foreign game.
