The Vegeta spirit bomb is pretty tiny and energy-efficient, even if it accomplished nothing. The Frieza and Buu ones are the ones that are gargantuan.
But hey, Goku's use of the large Spirit Bomb against Super Android 13 is a pretty efficient way to use such a grotesquely huge sphere.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Is that the one where he absorbed it to buff his own power?
I've seen that in some of the video games but could never place where it came from.

It's still a pretty sweet technique. Very energy efficient.

The Spirit Bomb is the most ineffective attack ever. It only ever accomplishes anything once in the entire series.
EDIT: Specifically, it gets used three times. The first time, it manages to hit Vegeta so hard that once it's done, he gets right back up and resumes beating the shit out of everyone. The second time, Goku spends much more time building a bigger and more powerful Spirit Bomb, with sufficient enough power to enrage Frieza into killing Krillin.
