If I was female, I would rather have a dragon hybrid baby.

[up][up] Because "Android" isn't what Jinzoningen literally translates to and as such everyone goes all Fan Dumb over it. Also, TFS mocked the dub's usage of "Frieza" despite that being a perfectly valid romanization, even being used by some Japanese materials (just not the main ones).

Since the andro prefix in Android means man (And not just in the gender-neutral catch-all sense, but actual male human), does that mean Android 18 is actually a man?

In it's most literal form it means having the likeness of man. And 17 and 18 are nearly identical.wink

So either 18 is a manly woman, or she is a man and the reason "she" was able to have Maron was because Krillin is actually a woman.

She's perfectly feminine. She just resembles a man... who is just as feminine

Exact Words, ho!

I think I like my theory better. Of course, that makes any time Krillin is seen shirtless sorta disturbing.

I like the idea of Trap!18 a bit too much.

18's probably called an android because the more accurate "gynoid" doesn't have the same bite to it, if you catch my drift.

DBA probably makes a lot of jokes around the dub because that is what everyone grew up with. I mean, a lot of Yu Gi Oh Abridged's jokes are based on the dub, so it's not exactly a new practice.

Anyway, not exactly a funny episode, but pretty good nevertheless. I do like that Goku seems to have gotten back to his "not retarded, but very ditzy" mentality from Season 1. Also, Piccolo bro is the best bro.

Android is used as a blanket term, just like mankind and what have you. The definition of android (robot) only says that its a machine built to resemble and act like a human. Technically, if she were a completely artificial being, she'd be a gynoid (which the auto-corrector doesn't recognize as a word). It really doesn't matter. As is, both terms are incorrect and she's a cyborg.

Mankind is because "man" used to be gender neutral before killing and replacing the male-only word, I believe.

Andro- has always meant male, specifically, though. Anthro- is gender neutral. Anthroid doesn't sound that bad, but android is the common term.

What about "androgynous"?

...Wait, that has "gyno" in it too.

I can't recall: did Cell have that thing where his energy couldn't be sensed, or was it only 16-20 who had that distinction?

Only them. It's because they don't actually have ki or whatever. They use SCIENCE to produce energy.

Cell has ki just like almost every other warior in the series.

It is an improper use of the root words, but android is the blanket term. Anthroid would be correct, but it is not the term used.

I think the android's engines convert energy into ki, but its instantaneous so its untrackable. I don't know.

Is it ever explained how absorbing 17 and 18 makes Cell transform? I get the feeling their perpetual energy engines had something to do with it.

I wonder if their infinite energy generators are literally producing infinite energy (In which case they're breaking physics, not that that's particularly out of place here) or if it infinitely draws in energy from, say, the air.

Based on Chaotsu's pointless suicide bomb against Nappa, I'd say "yes".
